Taking a look at ourselves

Jahanshah Javid

Once in a while go back and read your comments. Aren't you concerned that your anger and finger pointing and sarcasm clearly show through?

I am just one reader. But I can assure you that anyone who reads anything, whether it's your comments, articles, books, whatever, can get a sense of what type of writer they're dealing with as a person. And many of you -- many of us -- come off as Angry people -- with a capital A. There are a million reasons why we harbor this anger. But I just want to remind you that angry people a) don't have an audience, b) have no friends.

Who wants to sit and watch someone shouting and cursing? It might be funny, curious or interesting to observe a fight but there's so much an average person can take. There's nothing gained. Zanandas. Do you care?

Instead of reading ugly outbursts where nothing is learned, your audience will move on to other things that give positive energy. That makes them smile. That makes them think.

So again, read your own comments. Look in the mirror once a while. That's what the world sees. Are you happy with it?

Dear never ever again

by alimostofi on

Iranians, as a nation, has had to look at itself very deeply, soul searching. We have thrown out Islam, but we have not got an "official" counterweight to show to the world. The irony is that we were, like the Greeks a philosophical nation before the advent of religions. But Salman burnt all the works. Much of what we Iranians value spiritually is found in the Zend Avesta, but most Iranians do not know it. The advanced sophisticated modern philosophers like Hegel and Neitzsche refer to Zend Avesta, but we Iranians don't. When it comes to deeper methods like Astrology, we have a calendar based on Astrology but how many of us believe in Astrology and its tools.

There is soul searching, and we are the first generation ever since the Mongul invasion that has a chance to dig our non-Islamic side up.

There is more to all this.

by Monda on

Soul searching is an arduous task in any culture. Not only if to be done properly, requires time and energy but it also needs the willingness to inquire about family-of-origin issues/conflicts. As hardworking as Iranians are, all these factors make it almost impossible to entertain the idea even if it comes as a simple suggestion by JJ regarding people's posts on his site.

My 2 cents.

do you guys think

that looking at oneself is culturally anti-Iranian? please help me out here, I'm serious.

This blog topic is one of my favorites of all times. It ties in nicely with the truth-seeking tendency, or lack thereof, and all the humanly possible scenarios. I wish we could all find the space, internally and externally to be more open about what the heck we come here to iranian.com for.

Thank you for the lyrics! It is very kind of you. Actually music is universal, I like the music that makes me feel great, I don't have to know the words. (hopefully, no bad words.) I am OK with ethnic music. Not long ago, I was crazy about the song from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire". I bought the CD and listened to it many times even though I don't understand a word of the lyrics:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQGb9g4SY_I&feature=channel_page

later the English version by PCD came out:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrVlBrooxcM&feature=channel_page

Both versions make me happy and blow me away!

Thank you for sharing! I also like the song from captain, very pretty! I saved it! ......the Indian musical is hilarious....your guys know music very well. It is very cool!

A call to Unity

by Souri on

Dear Yolanda, I'm glad you enjoyed they music. The singer's name is Sattar (one of the bests) and the name of the song is "Yeganegi" means : Unity

I post the lyric in Persian here for you. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to translate it in English for you. You might have an English spoken Iranian friend who will translate it for you. Thanks for the appreciation

Dear Souri

Thank you for the music video link, I like the song, the guy has a great voice, as smooth as velvet! The video is quite interesting 'cause everyone is there: Black, White, Oriental, Iranians, young, old, men, and women, etc......almost all of them look super serious. I guess it is supposed to be a serious song? At the end of the song, a couple of people cracked a smile.

Thanks so much for sharing!

It is funny that they turn this blog into a cyper concert!

thanks,

Where have you been last night then?

by Souri on

Good choice, ebi!

I'm a fan of Parissa, also Meshkatian, was a bonus too.

I didn't know it happens to you to fall for the better choice of music.

Where have you been last night then?

Oh, one more thing:

I think I had already asked you to stop calling me "Jaan"

Coming from you, this is considered as an insult to me.
