About Those Three Hikers...

About those three hikers…

In yesterday’s New York Times, a representative of the Iranian government wrote, “It is also our position that the three American hikers entered Iranian territory illegally, and that it is the right of every government to take action, particularly when issues related to national security are involved. Iran is only doing what any sovereign country would do.”

Bruno: Starring Sacha Baron Cohen (SBC): Film Comment

I eagerly rented this film yesterday.

I am familiar with all of SBC's work, especially his Ali G series on HBO. I find his ability to improvise and to create humor unmatched. My college friends and I would repeat his phrases, snap our fingers in his style and fall over in laughter. This man is a comic genius; that's a subject not up for debate.

But I have mixed feelings after watching Bruno twice; once with SBC's commentary. I watched all the bonus material, too.

Reasons why I can't communicate efficiently with my younger Iranian relatives!

End of last summer I had many long phone conversations with my cousin's children who visit family in Canada and also use the opportunity to improve their English language skills. This was Not the first time I realized how incompetent I am in communication. Especially when it comes to Persian colloquial. Generally and developmentally-speaking, younger people are just so good at letting you know how off you are! Don't you love that?!

Life is Not a Lollipop

I felt a hard kick on my behind.
I took my head out of sand to see who my attacker was.
I was not too surprised to see that Life was getting ready
for one of his old favorite tricks again.
"Not again" I said trying not to look at his face.
"Oh yes, it is time for another round." Life said looking at me with his familiar lecherous eyes.
Having known Life for many years and having been screwed by him numerous times,
I got into his favorite position. He looked happy and started.

معلم ِ كلاس ِ نهم ما بچه باز بود

It was the first Tuesday of the month of Mehr. The school year had just begun all over Iran. We were in our 9th grade classroom discussing our new teachers and the curriculum until one of my classmates said, “Have you guys heard about our Technical Drawing (Rasm e Fanni) teacher, Mr. D.? The rumor has it that he is a child molester (Bacheh Baaz)! He likes to rub himself against the kids’ bodies!”

THE GRAFFITI WAR: Opposition is well ahead. Regime once again looks impotent. New graffiti appears as fast as the regime can paint it over. If the opposition really wants to cause some hovoc it should consider writing not just on walls but on pavements, rocks and streets. The latter can be especially disruptive as painting crews attempt frantically to hide evidence of the regime’s popularity.

Kabul Diaries: conversation with an ex-soldier

The drive back from the old city always took a lot longer in the evenings because of the traffic jam. The high number of vehicles, drivers who tried to turn two-lane streets into four lanes by sheer force and sharing the roads with hundreds of pedestrians, meant that a stretch which normally should have taken 20 minutes, took three times as long. On this particular evening, the worse than usual smog made breathing difficult and left a nasty taste of gas fumes in my mouth.

Omid & Behnoush: Part 1: Travel Realities

I emit a sigh. I sit across a special group of large seats in Terminal 3.

The seats are not set in rows, but in half-moon kiosks. Small coffee tables and potted plants draw attention away from the outside world and into the recesses of the self. Double wide cushions are honed for perfect blood circulation; with optimal ratios of firmness and softness to eliminate discomfort.

Say when?

Watching the Frontline documentary on Neda was like reliving the excruciating experience of passing kidney stone. All the ambivalent feelings of the time came rushing back.

On the one hand seeing people power being peacefully manifested was an immense source of pride and joy. On the other hand knowing what the Islamist Rapists are capable of doing was an ever present feeling of dread.

I am a supporter of Ahmadinejad.... ask me anything.

I understand the bitterness that exists between us and the supporters of GM. This is my attempt to explain our positions and goals to those who lost in the election or others. I will try to have an open mind and to respect the boundaries of a civil discussion. I am willing to change my position if proved wrong, but nevertheless, will give your arguement my full attention. However, certain principles should be respected in this thread if you wish to participate in this discussion.

1- Iran's integrity and sovereignty is not up for discussion.

San Francisco, California, November 18, 2009 -- Recently, a few extreme right-wing circles have been confronting National Iranian-American Council, NIAC, not by debating the merits of its positions and arguments, but through defamation and character assassination, accusing NIAC of being an agent of the Iranian government.

Iran's central bank is so frustrated it has apparently given up an effort to withdraw them from circulation.

If you've never see these bills and some of the clever slogans you are in for a treat. You'll even see translations into English underneath the photos.

All I Want!

As I was at the store, I came across Christmas items. Yep! It is not even Thanksgiving Day and the Christmas merchandise was already out. It seems that the Christmas items come out earlier every year. As, I looked at the beautiful ornaments, I began to reflect on the past.

I thought about what truly mattered. It was never really about the material things for me. Yes, it was nice to have a gift or two under the Christmas tree with my name on it. However, I was always happy with whatever the item was. As a child, I never asked my parents for any particular item.

A case-study in defamation and slander

This was written as a comment about another blog in which both Fred and Darius Kadivar made some statements claiming to be fair and objective critics of NIAC.

This is a case study of how Fred and Kadivar slander and defame even while pretending they are fair-minded judges of NIAC and Trita Parsi. All in the context of another defamation case, that of Hassan Daioleslam against NIAC.

With the revelation of NIAC lobby’s lifetime president and chief lobbyist exchanging cordial businesslike emails with the Islamist Rapists Republic's Ambassador to UN arranging meetings with congressmen, a classic lobbying duty, the quintessential questions are:

Were the NIAC lobby members, supporters and financial contributors aware of this relationship and approved it beforehand?

I just made some Madeleine cookies. Easssssy! I initially got inspired to make these cookies when I realized that I was spending about $13.00 at Starbucks for 6 packs (3 cookies in each pack). I have 3 sons and even 2 packs each is still not enough for them! So, I invested in the Madeleine molds (http://www.williams-sonoma.com/search/results.html...) and made two batches (total of 48 Madeleine cookies).

The Issue of Separatism at the Forefront after Ehsan Fatahiyan’s Execution

Kurdish people have been tirelessly fighting against the Islamic Regime for the past 30 years. They have been killed in highest numbers alongside many other minorities in Iran. As a result Iranian Kurdistan is heavily armed by Revolutionary Guards and Kurds are harassed and abused on a regular basis. Kurdish activists, teachers, writers and students are arrested and subjected to torture in order to force them to confess to crimes they have not committed. Currently there are many Kurdish students and activists who are serving heavy prison sentences.

Top 10 reasons for Iranians to Take the US Census

By now I am sure you have heard that the every 10 year US census is once again upon us, this time hitting us metaphorically on April 1st 2010.

In the past we have traditionally avoided this like a puppy dog who doesn't want to have it's leash put on. More on puppies later.

It's not entirely our fault though. We have good reason to suspect all governmental edicts, regardless of how painless they might seem. This one, and specifically this one at this particular time in history, however, is different.

I have been having a craving for cow's tongue lately. I think it has something to do with being four months pregnant :o) Last time I had this delicious dish, I had just delivered baby number 1. My uncle made it for me and schlepped it all the way from Orange County to our home in Los Angeles where I proceeded to devour it before his astonished and somewhat fearful eyes. Which brings me to my question, for those of you who reside in the Los Angeles area: Where can I find good tongue? And please don't say "in the personal ads of LA Weekly." I get it, I get it. I was think

Islam bashing is fully justified, 100%

I just finished reading a blog by someone who was questioning and was somewhat surprised that Islam bashing has become a sport if you will.

As apparently bewildered as he was about what is going on, I am bewildered as to how someone who claims to be non religious is so clueless as to why what is happening, is happening.

Lets look at 2 countries which are the primary hubs of the 2 main sects of Islam, Shia' and Sunni; Iran and Saudi Arabia respectively. In these countries:

Howard Stern loves Darioush

"The greatest wine I've ever had."

Those are the actual words of Howard Stern. I was listening to his talk show on Sirius satellite radio this morning (I listen to him every day, including daily repeats) and I heard Howard and his co-host Robin Quivers giving a big shout out to Darioush wine. That's a huge endorsement of a relatively young Iranian-American winery in Napa, California.

Crude Zionist wants to concure the world.

4- Polished Zionist calls all those he doesn’t like, terrorist

What Is It With All the Islam Bashing?

What is with Islam bashing? Really, what are you trying to accomplish? I, along with other readers of this site, are unfortunate enough to witness, on pretty regular basis, blogs and articles written that quote Quranic verses that advocate violence, and try to imply that these verses somehow taint the whole religion and everyone who follows it. That is simply not the case.

What if Ahmadinejad’s Wife Wrote a Book, Like Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin’s book, Going Rouge, is out this week and excerpts from the book are all over the news. There is a cheesy passage that caught my eye. It is about the rumors that Sarah and Todd were going to divorce.

“That day in sunny Texas when the divorce rumors were rampant in the tabloids, I watched Todd, tanned and shirtless, take the baby from my arms and walk him back to the ranch house so Trig could nap while I made calls. Seeing Todd's blue eyes smiling, I chuckled. Dang, I thought. Divorce Todd? Have you seen Todd?”

Zionism, Judaism and Iranians

The differences between a polished Iranian Islamist and a crude one:

1- Polished Islamist only in private uses Zionism and Judaism interchangeably.

Crude Islamist says Jews in public or private.

What do you think about Russia? (2)

You may remember that in October, I posted a blog, linking a RIA Novosti-Persian poll which asked Iranians about their perceptions of Russia's image. The poll results are now available. I thought you might find them interesting.
