هم آغوشی در وقت آمدن ارتش آزادی بخش

خیلی ها داشتند نماز می خواندند.زن بغل دستی ام روسری را در دستانش داشت می پیچید و می گفت آقا تا میدان آزادی خیلی راه مونده .به دست هایش نگاه کردم و روسریش را از پنجره به بیرون انداختم و گفتم تا چند دقیقه دیگر می رسیم خانم !راننده ترانه ی شادی را گذاشته بود و خیلی ها داشتند می رقصیدند . سربازان امریکایی داشتند در خیابان جیجون عده ای را تیر باران می کردند .سربازان انگلیسی و اسرائیلی آن طرف تر داشتند مسجدی را آتش می زدند .دسته های مردم در میدان آزادی جمع شده بودند و خیل عطیمی از روحانی های ریش دار را دار می زدند.

Nature's oasis

Watch out, here they come!

"We’re not Pink Floyd" he says. "Why do they expect us to be Pink Floyd?" Those are words from Arash Sobhani, singer/songwriter of Kiosk, the Iranian rock band that has been making quite a name for itself in the past two years. Since the days I wrote and published the conversation we had on Orkut in November 2005, the band has made a major leap in making itself known to the general public, and quite successfully, I might add. As I also run the Kiosk fan community on Orkut, the release of their second album a few months ago gave me the opportunity to have a second conversation with not only Arash, but also with Babak Khiavchi, head of Bamahang Productions (Kiosk’s record label) and Ahmad Kiarostami, the director of the now famed Eshghe Sorat video. >>>

کیوسک در زیر زمین خانه ما

من از گوشه جاز کیوسک به کیوسک وصل شدم. شهروز مولایی ، جازیست گروه کیوسک در یک پیشنهاد بی شرمانه از من خواست که برای ترانه "افسوس" هلهله بزنم. مساله هلهله خدا را شکر منتفی شدم و جایش هلهله عروسی علی کمالی (بیسیت گروه)را جایگزین کردند. ولی من دیگر درگیر شده بودم و این درگیری یعنی بعنوان مثال چند آخر هفته تمام خزیدن در خانه و سیفون نکشیدن برای جلوگیری از ایجاد صدای زاید در هنگام ضبط جاز " تو کجایی " و یا در یک روز منفی چهل و سه درجه کانادایی ، ساعت سه صبح با شهروز کیوسک تا اتاوا رفتن برای اخذ ویزا برای اولین کنسرت کیوسک در سانفرانسیکو . آلبوم عشق سرعت از نظر من یک آلبوم کاملن زیر زمینی است. همه آلبوم در زیر زمین دو خانه در تورنتو ضبط شده است. یک خانه در شمال تورنتو و خانه ما. >>>

بهروز نرو !

نوشتم "آقای وثوقی" چون شما را هیچ نمی شناسم و نوشتم "بهروز عزیز" چون از وقتی یادم می آید ترا می شناسم. درست یک وجب بودم و رفته بودم سینما و تو بزرگترین و قوی ترین آدم دنیا بودی. تمام عرض و طول پرده را فتح کرده بودی و گسترده بودی خود را بر پهنه ی بیکران سینما. همه ی عضلات سر و صورت و دست و شانه هایت را می شناسم. نگاهت را می شناسم پرش ریز زیر چشمهایت را می شناسم. دستهایت! نحوه ی کبریت کشیدنت! صدایت؟ صدا؟ صدا صدای خودت بود و در ذهنم حک شده است. چشم بسته ترا از صدایت هم می شناسم. ترا بهتر از پدرم و بیشتر از هر مردی در زندگیم، از همان اول می شناسم و بارها و بارها دیده ام.>>>

Golden eye

I was doing some personal research on how Hollywood film fashion and the American Way of Life had influenced Persian Society particularly in the 50's and 60's. It was for an article on American Soprano Monika Jalili and her Noorsaaz Band who have revived ( and translated from Persian) some of the great music score's of Iran's Pre-Revolution classic movies. I thus came across a book precisely on one of Hollywood's quintessential icon's of the swinging sixties: Audrey Hepburn the Paramount Years by Tony Nourmand. >>>

هنوز هم ستاره مي كشند

مشكل جنازه ها را از پيش حل كرده بودند . گورهاي دسته جمعي كه از مدت ها پيش آماده شده بود ، پيكر نحيف هر ستاره را در خود حل مي كرد. خاوران ،‌ گلزاري كه بعدها فاش شد در آن روزها زميني بود كه تنها شاهد بي زبان اين كشتار بود. شاهدي كه نه كسي مي توانست صدايش را بشنود و نه خود مي توانست به حركت در آيد كه اگر مي توانست تا سالهاي سال اگر از اين جنايت مي سرود باز هم كم بود. گورهاي دسته جمعي پذيراي هزاران تن از بهترين فرزندان ايران شد . اينجا ديگر از آنان نمي پرسيدند كه به خدا معتقدي يا نه ؟ ديگر بدون هيچ تفاوتي در برتري عقايد در جنسيت در زبان و در نژاد در كنار هم مي آسودند. ديگر از صداي پاي جلادان خبري نبود ، ديگر از فرياد و شكنجه از نماز و دعاي اجباري از ترس و اضطراب خبري نبود ‌، آرامگاه ابدي بود ... >>>

Enduring endearment

Global communication and the urge to become one with the world has brought on drastic changes and bent a few rigid rules. Long gone are the days when we used different greeting for different people. Just three decades ago, you never said goodbye to your seniors with “Bye” or even the common term of ghorbanat – meaning may I be sacrificed for you! Instead, where I grew up, you had to say sayeh-toon-kam nasheh -- may your shadow never diminish. Or Marhamat-e-shoma-ziyad -- may your favors increase! The undertone was understood, yet such formal expressions often required additional gestures such as a bow, hand kissing, or simply standing up. I never understood why my father said taazeem arz meekonam when talking on the phone, and to this day can’t imagine the need to verbally bow to anyone. >>>

Xerxes

Interestingly Hollywood may well discover a new and interesting version of the legendary tale of Xerxes and Esther thanks to a script written by a beautiful American actor/writer of Iraqi heritage: Ren A. Hakim. All the more interesting is that Hakim's script is titled Xerxes and tries to take a look at this story from the perspective of the King whose reign saw the expansion of the Persian Empire to its pinnacle and during which the Palace of Persepolis was to be completed as an architectural Imperial legacy for future generations before its fatal destruction and burning centuries later by Alexander the Great. >>>

Disowned

(Mr. Amiri is getting the mail on a Saturday morning. He sees a letter from Farhad's school addressed to his parents. He opens the letter. It reads:  Dear Mr. and Mrs. Amiri: Congratulations! Your son, Farhad has been selected to receive a scholarship for a summer writing program at the prestigious Foster Academy for the Arts.)
Mrs. Amiri: Oh, that is wonderful!
Mr. Amiri: Pah! It is wonderful to you, not to me. My son has no interest in such things, he will be an engineer, and then the world's greatest surgeon. He will invent new instruments, he will win the Nobel Prize, he will have a family with a good Persian wife and children, he will be a great soccer player on the over 40 league, he will -- where is he -- (yelling) FARHAD! Come down right now! (Enter Farhad) >>>
