The Joke is on US

A look at the Arab-Israeli peace process

The Joke is on US
by Guive Mirfendereski

Have you heard the one about the Jewish genie? After a long set-up, the joke arrives at a point where the finder of the lamp asks the Jewish genie that, as his last wish, he would want to be surrounded by pussy. So, the genie turned him into a tampon and when the wisher complained of this fate, the genie replied: The moral of the story is that when you deal with a Jewish genie, there is always a string attached. That is also the case when dealing with Bibi Khanoum.

To recap the last season: Sultan Hussein decided that because he is taller and more articulate than his predecessor, Mighty Mouse, that he was the one that was going to stitch peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. So, a gallant effort was launched by the S.S. Clinton and Pretty Boy Blair and Sensei Mitchell do what others had failed since the lesser days of the Carter Administration. Uncle Abbas who had pouted for many years suddenly regained his spirits and decided that he could sit down with the likes of Bibi Khanoum as long as Bibi would keep the lid on the building of new settlements in areas that Uncle Abbas wanted for his Palestinian state. Problem was that the time for the lid was coming to an end and the lid got lifted and bulldozers began the work that they do in the construction world. Uncle Abbas pouted again and this time went to his brothers in the Arab League so that they can ask him not do anything rash which he would not do anyway. So Uncle Abbas told the world that he would give S.S. Clinton and Sultan Hussein one month to get Bibi to extend the moratorium on building more settlements so that Uncle Abbas and Bibi could sit down and talk peace. Bibi had a price.

Sultan Hussein did what Americans do so very well, spend money, which they really do not have but borrow in a manner that Americans also do so very well. In the days of the cold war, economic aid and military assistance would buy votes of countries at the UN; these days money is spent on projects to bring down governments with variegate velvet, burlap, or satin. Not to mention the billions that is being sent in two futile wars. All in the name of arriving at unrealistic foreign policy objectives! Peace is not a commodity to be purchased; it is state of being that has to grow organically from the very soil that sprung the violence.

So, true to the form that money can by you love, S.S. Clinton and her tugboats were making promises about American post-peace security guarantees to Israel, money, jets and other weapons, and allowing Israeli military presence in some bases along the border of the future Israeli-Palestinian states, and a U.S. commitment to torpedo (sorry, veto) any resolution at the UN that might recognize Palestinian independence or help force a solution on the situation.

All this offer of the American incentive or exacting of blackmail by Israel, depending on one’s pov, is even happening before Uncle Abbas and Bibi would sit at the table again! Will there be a price if a party is taking too long to return to the table from the bathroom too? It is likely that at every step one player or another is going to bulk and then has to be enticed back to the table for talks.

What I would like is for the U.S. to walk away from the table and then see what Bibi and Uncle Abbas are willing to pay in order to entice Sultan Hussein back to the table. Maybe for once the American taxpayer does not have to shell out money, hardware and commitments to keep a bunch of ninnies talking.

Here is what Sultan Hussein should do next: Tell the Palestinians and the world that if the two sides have not reached a workable solution to their state belligerence by a date certain that the U.S. would not prevent the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations to recognize a unilaterally-declared independence of Gaza and West Bank as two independent Palestinian states.

Amen to this one Mehrdad

And more directly for Iranians, it will remove the one area that IRI has used to distract attention and actually got some legitimacy in the Muslim world.

AMEN!!!  I hope a peace deal happens as soon as possible so that the IR gets to STFU!!! But as I said, the Palestinians need to make the move.  Otherwise, Israel will just waste time.

AO: Not knowing all the risk/technicality of such move

by Bavafa on

Your suggestion sound like a very reasonable and sound thing to do. We all know that the US will be forced to veto such move but at least US may be able to get some concession out of Israel for going against the majority of the world one more time.

One thing for sure is clear even to some Israelis that paying $1B a month for three months with no guarantee for a honest effort or result for peace is the absolute DUMBEST thing this nation can do.

Briefly in regards to peace and Iranians (only my opinion of course)

We all know that making peace between Palestinians and Israelis will benefit vast majority of people. First and foremost, the Palestinians and Israelis themselves by giving them statehood and peace respectively. It will remove much hostility towards US from the Muslim world if not wider world in general. And more directly for Iranians, it will remove the one area that IRI has used to distract attention and actually got some legitimacy in the Muslim world.

So, clearly this is to every one's benefit but those who have greed and design for land grab and the war industry at large.

Here's the solution in my opinion

by Anonymous Observer on

The Palestinians should declare statehood through the UN and then negotiate from a position of strength.  Even if they don't win approval at the UN, it will be a strong symbolic move.  This will be the ONLY way that Israel will take the matter seriously and negotiate in good faith.  Otherwise, the Israelis will waste more and more time, build more settlements, annex more land and will otherwise bamboozle the Palestinians indefinitely.

What does Helen Thomas have to do with Iran you ask?

by Mola Nasredeen on

If you had read James Abourezk the former U.S. Senator's comment you would've seen the relationship. Here it is:

"But you can easily see the service Helen performed by asking that question.  As the Zionists and the Israelis are working very hard to get our country into a war with Iran, there remains almost no voice in the press or in the Congress to call a halt to this madness.

That is why we are all paying tribute to Helen tonight, and I hope, for a long time after this night.  We pay tribute to all soldiers who act with bravery, and tonight, we add Helen Thomas to that company.  She deserves our thanks, and she deserves the thanks of our nation.

Helen's fatal, and final, sin was, during a discussion of Iran's nuclear program during a press conference, to ask President Obama if anyone else in the Middle East -beside Iran - has nuclear weapons.  Of course, he didn't answer the question, which probably explains why he joined the chorus of denouncers to drum Helen Thomas out of the White House press room.  He simply didn't want the question coming up again at a future press conference.

But you can easily see the service Helen performed by asking that question.  As the Zionists and the Israelis are working very hard to get our country into a war with Iran, there remains almost no voice in the press or in the Congress to call a halt to this madness."

In praise of Helen Thomas the journalist who got fired from her

job for criticizing Israel's criminal regime. As James Abourezk the former U.S. Senator puts it:

"For the Zionist supporters of Israel, it’s OK for Israel to kill on the average of at least one Palestinian a day during its illegal occupation;.

It’s OK for Israel to use the million and a half people in Gaza as living targets in a shooting gallery.

It’s OK to bomb Syria and Lebanon any time such an attack is needed to bolster the military credentials of Israel=s politicians.

It’s OK to invade Lebanon whenever they feel like it. In my memory, Israel's military has killed at least 30,000 civilians in their Lebanon invasions.  But lately, with Hezbollah standing up to them, it=s happening on fewer and fewer occasions, and fewer and fewer Lebanese are being slaughtered by Israel.

It's OK to destroy the olive groves of Palestinian farmers.  It's OK to move them off their land to make room for Jewish settlements.

It’s  OK for Israel to send agents to spy on the United States, and it’s OK for the Obama Administration to dismiss charges against those of Israel’s spies who have been caught red-handed.

It’s OK for Israel to commit an act of criminal piracy on the high seas by boarding a ship full of people and food and medicine on their way to help stem the starvation brought on by Israel’s policy in Gaza, and to outright murder 9 people, including an American citizen out on the high seas.  Have you heard much lately about the American boy who was assassinated by the Israeli military on board one of those aid ships?  Have you wondered why you haven't heard anything about it from those great American journalists who so bravely ganged up on Helen Thomas?

It's OK to do all of those things I've listed, but it’s not OK to send money and food to Palestinian refugees to help them survive.

And it’s not OK for Helen Thomas to tell Israel to get the hell out of Palestine.

And it’s not OK for anyone else to say that Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine is wrong and against the law, and that American taxpayers’ money is being used to help Israel commit these crimes against humanity.  That kind of criticism brings down calls of "anti-Semitism" from the likes of Foxman and Dershowitz.

As an American citizen, I am deeply worried, among other things, about the direction our government has taken and is taking with respect to its financing of Israel’s crimes.  There is no one left in the press corps to ask such questions now that they’ve drummed Helen out of journalism.

You still don't get it, do you?

Palestine is not my country and so therefore it isn't my problem.

Call me a racist. Call me heartless but Iran has enough problems to worry about.

Once the Palestinians show an interest in the problems of Iran and instead of siding with Saddam and instead of shooting at defenceless Iranian demonstrators like last summer then I might...just might...show an interest in them.

Until then think of it  like this: When the evil Zionists like Bejmanin Ben Guirion were thinking of where to establish a Jewish state they found an old book in Arabic called the Koran. They turned to found a  surah which said Allah bestowed the land of Israel to the children of Israel and there they would reside forever. As hard as they tried they could not find any reference to Palestine because it did not exist.

So when Islamists like you say that Zionism is racist and the Jews stole the land the Koran would argue otherwise. :)

1. Who is occupying whose land?

Islamists are occupying Iran; and most of Middle East. By terror they enforce Islam on other people.

2. Who is building on this land?

Well since Islam mostly destroys it has to be others.

3. Who is moving into these new housing settlements?

Mostly Saudi moving into Pakistan; and their foul breed "Taliban"into nearby regions; contaminating their gene pool !!!USA has build housing for them at GITMO and is trying hard to pen them up there out of sight.

4. Isn't it illegal?

No, but Islam SHOULD be illegal.

5. Why do Americans have to pay politically and financially for the Israeli aggressions against the natives ?

Natives? You mean the brain washed children of once decent people.

Stop the distraction,

by Mola Nasredeen on

The questions are:

1. Who is occupying whose land?

Answer: For the last 62 years Zionist jews from all over the world have occupied another people's land and have pushed the natives out of their land.

2. Who is building on this land?

Answer: Israeli companies with the help of international investors such as Former World Bank president and Middle East Quartet envoy James D. Wolfensohn.

3. Who is moving into these new housing settlements?

Answer: Russian jews, American jews and every other kinds of jews who can afford to pay for it.

4. Isn't it illegal?

Answer: Yes according to the United Nations all these settlements are illegal.

5. Why do Americans have to pay politically and financially for the Israeli aggressions against the natives ?

Answer: Because Zionist individuals and organizations have infiltrated all levels of government and media in the United States and they will try to defeat any politician (or fire any journalist from his job) if he/she does not support Israel.

But I tell you what disgusts me even more then those action and that is when an Iranian sides with the enemy and participates in the war against the mother land. This can be in the form of direct participation like the MKE group siding with Saddam's regime or those who advocate war and bombing of Iran by US/Israel now.

Bavafa, Norooz

by Simorgh5555 on

The 90 day settlement freeze in exhnage for first genertion fighter aircrafts are part of a billion daollar military contract primarily benefiting the American arms industy and is essential for economy. the arms industry is the life blood of the American industry bringing in an income of billiosn of dolalrs and providing jobs to thousands of Americans. It is Sad but it is a fact.  The US has been exploting regional conflicts years and it doesn't take a rocket science to understand this.  It is America which pulls the strings here and they would not invest so heavily in Israel is there was no stretegic benefit for her.

However, you know what is so SAD about both of you is that:

1) USA (www.usaid.gov/) provides almost 1/5 of its international aid to Israel but you have no bone to pick with the other countries in Aftica and slesewhere where aid money for development has been misappropriaed by corrupt officials and used for laundering and fundign wars.

2) More importantly, and as VPK mentioned below, absolutely neither of you have any objections to the fact that Arafat and Fatah have been handed down $millions by the Islamic Republic which have been used to fund terror. You have no problem with the fact that most of them cheered on Saddam when he invaded Iran in the Gulf War and did not even give political support to Iran. It should sicken you to your stomach when Arafat publicly sided with Saddam in 1991 in the Gulf War 1 hugging and embracing him.  And then when he decided to make peace with Israel in Oslao in 1994 he told the Iranians to stick it after all the money he gave.  It should disgust you that Arab speaking soldiers in riot geer were used to shoot at Iranian demonstrators. Oh, and did I mention that the Palestinians suppot the calling of the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf and that the Palestinains signed a charter supproting the UAE claims over Abu Musa, and the Greater and Lesser Tnubs Islands in the Persian Gulf. Of course none of this matters to you and I wonder why?...........Those anti-semetic feelings is in your DNA as is the Arab blood ties passed down from generation to genration. Despite everything your natural instinct is to come to the aid of your Arab brethren just like a an animal in wildlife kingdom whose natural instinct is to stick with its own kind. I am an Iranian. I bet you envy that :)

Iran was not anyone's "Nokar". There was massive economic progress and total peace. Thanks to the vampire Islamists led by Khomeini all that is gone. Now 1 rial is worth 1/1000 of what is was. Humm, really brilliant economic management.

If anything were to happen to Iran that would be 100% fault of Islamists. The idiots who instead of making friends with the west spit at them.

I am no fan of the West but understand you don't pick a fight you can not win. Of course Iran is in danger. It would not be if we had a government with basic sense.

But that is too much to ask of an Islamist. They *want* war so they can die in glorious jihad. Then go to get their 20 or 40 or whatever # of virgins.

Now who would be the fool? Islamist does not even use an Islmis name.

Of course you fool. Because Iran belonged to US and there was no reason for war. The wars and threats start when US interests and profits are cut.

Fool, you pretend to be upset for Arabs invading Iran centuries ago. who is investing and trying to create division and break Iran into different countries today? Who is charging the Arabs to make claims over Iranians territories? Who is defending those territories and will retaliate if any country Arab or not attack Iran? Bavafa,

Ahmadinejad has been right. He very well knows who he is dealing with internationally and internally.  Ahmadinejad speaks the truth about west and Israel.  That sits well with many and they support him and it doesn't sit well with some and they oppose him.  US and Israel will take advantage of any situation to kill, destroy and try to benefit from.  That didn't start with Ahmadinejad and will not end when he leaves.  So let's not blame Ahmadinejad for their crimes and forgive them.  That is also what some are trying to do internally. Blaming him for all the wrong they have done for the past 31 years. Unfortunately, independence comes with pressure, threats, sanctions, wars and etc.  If we wanted to stay a Nokar, we shouldn't have had the revolution as Veiled the fool stated.

Norooz:

"They are all the same old foolish games. I am afraid Ahmadinejad has been right."

As much as I agree that US has been speaking from both side of the mouth and has no genuine interest in peace that is based on just and fairness, the same goes for Ahmadinejad as he is in this just to muddy the water so his own crimes and shortcomings against Iranian people are disguised in this mess we call justice and fairness.

In fact I do strongly believe that AN has been the best gift to Israel since Khomenie himself and that Israel has been using this gift to justify and further their expansion and crimes against Palestinians. And AN action has proven that his rhetoric against Israel is not as a result of yearning for peace but merely to seek attention at home and in the wider Muslim world to further strengthen his footing on the throat of Iranian people.

These talks are not about peace as anyone with an ounce of brain can tell.

Regarding talks: they are between Palestinians and Israel. Not between Iran and any one. From the Islamist Republic view they are about one thing: diverting attention. So that they get people hyped up against Jews and let the Mollah remain in power.

As for Sudan or any other nation,  the position is the same.

I see that is why you and your ilk never write about Sudan. When was it that your Mollahs said anything about it? Or Chechnya or anywhere except for Israel.

Arabs attacked Iran and the Iranians you call Arabs stayed and fought to save Iran.

There would have been no war had it not been for the revolution. After that if the Mollahs had not murdered the Iranian military top brass. So your side weakens Iran so Arabs get to attack then talk about fighting. I remind you that Khomeini prolonged the war?

I am not particularly interested in Israel; but the Israeli understandably are. I guarantee if Israel were to make a deal the Palestinians would break it. Muslims pushed them out in the past 1400 years; now roles are reversed.

Why is it fine for Muslims to take but not the other way? Why don't I hear this outrage when Muslims in Sudan dish it out? When I mentioned my property Mehrdad said "I should grow up". The fact is that neither

by norooz on

The fact is that neither Israel nor US want peace. Peace will stop the constant demolition of Palestinians homes and expansion of Israeli settlements. Peace will stop the arm deals. peace will cut the flow of other nations resources to US. peace will give a chance to other nations to improve and advance and reduce their trade with west and cut in US and Europeans profits. Peace between Palestine and Israel will stabilize Middle East.  Other nations must always be held back so they trade their resources with western goods and machines. It doesn't take a genius to solve the problem. Palestinians have always said that if Israel respect the 1967 agreement Palestinians will live in peace with them, but the Israelis keep breaking one agreement after another because peace is an obstacle for Israelis plans.  They remind me of the agreements US kept breaking with Indians and other nations. In fact, the two have had a very similar past and present. perhaps shedding the blood of innocent people is the bonding agent between these two countries.

Below is part of the report in the link posted by Mola Nasredeen.

The U.S. has proposed that Israel cease settlement building for 90 days in return for a fleet of next-generation stealth fighter planes and U.S. pledges to veto anti-Israel resolutions at the United Nations.

Isn't this sickening? Where is peace in this? where is the Palestinians interest in this? where is fairness in this? where is justice that US speak of 24/7?  Do you really think that US will ever be a fair mediator in these talks or should we call them F...s?
