Gaza Attack News and Open Thread
by Q

Since the usual mob of so-called Persian "patriots" is clearly uncomfortable talking about Israeli war crimes (or anything other than their own agenda), I propose we have an open thread where the latest from the Gaza crisis can be discussed.

First, let me say, that those people who constantly moan about "I don't care about X, this is IRANIAN.COM, not X.COM", are clearly wrong. Many of them are disingenuous. This has been proven several times. Most recently it was proven again when I put up news stories of Iranians getting killed in Iraq, and the inhuman and hostile reaction some of these "patriots" exhibited was telling.

A smaller group is clearly just protecting Israel against criticism. We have all met these people, some of them right-of-center thinkers who admire Israel's modernity, power and authority and don't care about much else. Some of them are Iranian Jews who have found a sense of pride and belonging in the dominant Israeli narrative in the West, and this is their way of protecting that feeling. Some are brought up to equate Islam with Arabs and evil and since Israel is "against" Arabs, they think Israel must be a friend, so they are just protecting friends from "enemies" by trying to silence criticism of Israel.

One way this hypocrisy becomes obvious is with their own conduct. They claim they support freedom of speech and also that we should not waste energy on Palestine when there are human rights violations in Iran. Both are valid points of view. But why would a person who has these views waste time actually criticizing others who do write about Palestine? Does that sound like someone who wants to just concern themselves with Iranian human rights? Why would someone like that care, for example, that Iran has requested Intropol investigations of Israeli officials?

Not everyone is a hypocrite of course, far from it, even here. Some people genuinely just think the Palestinian issue has nothing to do with us, and they do not want to lose focus on Iran. While I can respect their honesty, I think they are misguided. The world is incredibly interconnected. Crisis in the Middle East as well as anything having to do with Israel, Turkey, US is very relevant to Iran, relevant to the future of our country, and to the future of the people in it, including those who are seeking democratic changes.

However, I didn't really mean to get off on a rant here. I did not make this blog to talk about why the Gaza massacre is relevant to us, I will write an article about that part soon. Here, I just want to give a central location to those who do care about what is going on to comment, share links and ideas. I humbly ask those who do not care to stay out of this as to not cause themselves any unnecessary headaches.

The Picture is of the Nobel Elders Group, founded by Nelson Mandela and comprised of Nobel Peace prize winners who are active in human rights issues. It just released the statement on the Gaza crisis, which in part reads:

“The Elders have condemned the reported killing by Israeli forces of more than a dozen people who were attempting to deliver relief supplies to the Gaza Strip by sea,” the 12—member group said in a statement issued in Johannesburg, where it met over the weekend.

The group, which was launched by Mr. Mandela on his birthday in 2007 to try to solve some of the world’s most intractable conflicts, called for a “full investigation” of the incident and urged the UN Security Council “to debate the situation with a view to mandating action to end the closure of the Gaza Strip.” “This tragic incident should draw the world’s attention to the terrible suffering of Gaza’s 1.5 million people, half of whom are children under the age of 18,” the group said.

This comes in the wake of the UN Security Council action after a 12 hour emergency meeting. It was predictably watered down by Israel's main supporter, the United States. But it was passed anyway. See: UN Security Council Condemns Israel for Violence in Gaza Raid, Seeks Probe.

Lastly, I want to leave you with this short interview by Dr. Norman Finkelstein, himself an American Jew and son of two holocaust survivors who has dedicated his life to battling the inhuman Israeli policies and their corrupt cheerleaders in American media and society. Here he talks about why Israeli is officially a "Lunatic State":

So please share your feelings and links.

to support and protect their master, Israel. Today Israel bombed and killed 5 Palestinians in Gaza while Human Rights activists  send a new boat to challenge Gaza blockade. This ship is named after Rachel Corrie the young American who was ran over by Israeli bouldozers a few years ago.

Can you show us the number of times you have signed online petitions to protest or condemn the jailing or execution of innocent people in Iran and especially the members of the Bahaii community. Human rights is human rights isn't it?

Thanks Q and Irandokht for posting.

I am very much interested to bring and discuss all crimes against humanity whether by IRI, Israel or any other fascist group. Of course it seems IRI is the leader in committing crimes against its own people and Israel equally is the leader in committing crimes against its neighbors and both need to be condemned in the harshest way.

Whether the right-wing Iranian anti-IRI folks want to accept it or not, the only winner of the attack on peace flotilla or any other criminal actions by Israel that cause such PR disaster, is Ahmadinejad.

It is a humane act in the time of disasters to reach out for the news. Sa'adi's verses on the UN entrance has already tied our patriotism with humanity. The media empire has already caused a vacuum in the news world. Iranian.com is one of the few places to discuss what it matters to us.

In order to put this and related debates into perspective I wrote a blog. Please honor me with your presence :-) I welcome a discussion on the reasons behind all these recent so called blogs and so called news reports on non Iran topics and points.

Before Quoting Finkelstein Like your friend Niloufar Parsi/Farsi

by Darius Kadivar on

Firstly I have to say that I don't wish to argue or even debate with YOU Q Q BANG BANG because it is of public knowledge that We Both Are at the OPPOSITE Ends on ALL Grounds when it comes to EVERYTHING From Politics to Personal Assessments on Iran's Future or our country's national as well as International Interests.

In Short :

NOUS N'AVONS PAS LES MEMES VALEURS !

As Such I do Not wish to comment here as a pretext to debate with YOUR subjective Assessments but merely respond to YOUR Pseudo Challenge of Testing the Patriotism of those who oppose Your personal definition of the word "Patriotism". Given that my definition is at a 180 ° degrees to Your's I gather that Your Challenge is adressed to me but also to my likeminds anyway ... and prompts me to defend their and my honor in logical consenquence.

But before answering to your blog I would like to say that before Quoting Finkelstein Like your friend Niloufar Parsi/Farsi Make Sure to at least do YOUR HOMEWORK and also express His Opinion on the Holocaust Revisionist Conference held by Iran's President Ahmadinejad ( who by the way Opposes YOUR AVATAR Presidential Candidate) :

HOLOCAUST A MYTH: Norman Filkenstein Vehemently Opposes Neo Nazi Revisionist Socialite Michelle Renouf on Iranian SAHAR TV

Or Your AVATAR's Friend who also had an opinion on Your Joon Joony President Elect ( according to IRI Poles that is) :

Mehdi Karroubi Targets Ahmadinejad's Holocaust Denial

Now if You want to have our Honest and Serious assessment ( which I doubt given that for you it is merely an opportunity to comfort your Anti Israeli stance and Therefore Pro Ahmadinejad Stance under the cover of a Pro Green Activist, which you clearly do not represent the aspirations of) as to the latest Israeli Bloody Blunder or at least my genuine Opinion ... Well Here is mine :

I think Netanyahu and the Far Right Israelian government are stupid and blind. The Isaeli Policies in regard to the Colonization of new territories in Gaza or the so called Occupied territories are Irresponsible to say the least and counterproductive in reaching a suitable and peaceful aggreement acceptable to all protagonists in this conflict. I would even add that The Philisophical and ideological implications of the current Israeli's leaders have already shed a negative light not only of the current Israeli State but more dramatically on the historical legitimacy of it's inception in 1948 resulting from the emotional outcry triggered by the Nazi Holocaust. A Tragedy UNIQUE in the history of mankind for the "Industrialized" and systematic Eradication of a people deemed racially inferior ( which has NOTHING to do with the religious concept of the "Chosen" People to which the Jews Refer to as the first converts to the Monotheistic Faith of One God, a Faith shared by all three major monotheist religions including Islam and Christianity not to mention Zoroastrianism common to ancient Persians)

But where is this Israeli-Palestinian Conflict of a "Patriotic" Concern to us as Iranians ? ...

Iranians Demonstrating in Iran Cried "Nah Gazeh, Nah Lobnan, Janam Fedayeh Iran" aka "No to Gazeh ( In reference to Hamas) , No to Lobnan ( in reference to Hezbollah) I am ready to sacrifice my Life For Iran":

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr8YrAx21GE

At Best the Predicament of the Palestinians is of a humanitarian concern which is alas nothing new in the history of the region and the Israeli Palestinian Conflict  ...

pictory: (SURPRISE) Shah and Sadat Pro Palestine Statement (1975)

And which justifies the Nobel Peace Laureates Intervention both on Moral grounds and peaceful purposes for which they have recieived that Over Estimated Award in the First place ... ( I say "Over Estimated" for reasons that have been debated elsewhere as to the credibility of the Nobel Commitee in regard to some of it's recent choices ... including the last one which put it's recipient to embarrasment more than anything else ) ...

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3uU_mCNcKM

Whether or not this unfortunate bloody confrontation is the result of the irresponsible actions of the Enemy of my Enemy or the Friend of My Enemy ... or whether The Israelis were to Bomb the entire place as they did last year , it would not change my PRIORITIES as an IRANIAN First and Foremost concerned by the Freedom of My People from the hands of a Regime I detest and oppose from the bottom of my soul and to the last drop of my blood.

For indeed Between saving a member of my own family or that of a friend or neighbour I would not hesitate a second if I was faced with a CHOICE !

If I had Family Ties in Israel or Palestine, I guess it would be different or could choose to take sides or If I were on one of those boats and had some physical courage ( which until further notice I don't claim to have no more no less than you for that matter nor anyother person unless confronted to similar circumstances or experienced similar situations ) even give a helping hand to the victimes , one of which ( the one that was attacked) conveniently happened to be the one with the Turkish Pro Palestinian activists ( close to Hamas sympathizers ) who according to the various reports were the only to resist violently to the Israelian Tsahal forces who embarked their ship.

Should the Isaeli Military intervention in INTERNATIONAL WATERS be condemned and Israel held Responsible for this intentional or not blunder ? Definitively YES !

Is this incident a GIFT to the HAMAS and All the Extremist Groups including Iran's regime to capitalize on the legitimacy of it's Foreign Policy ( At Odds with Iran's Interests at Large and those of it's People ) ? Defintively YES !

Does that mean that I am indifferent to the predicament of the innocent lives lost in such disastrous operations which I neither endorse nor recommend ? ... YOU TELL ME ;0)

But I should Also Add that TURKEY is probably NOT Innocent in attempting to turn this incident into a political tool to shape the new order in the Middle East and acquire a geo strategic leadership position it has been aspiring to, eversince the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

But If it suits you to think so as to Typcast me or other so called "patriots" as "unpatriotic" so be it !

Being Branded as Upatriotic By YOUR Likes and YOUR Likeminds is Actually an Honor ! ...

I am not hear to correspond to YOUR Definition of what is a Patriotic Iranian for I definitively do not fit in YOUR Brand of a Good Iranian Patriot.

I am a Mohareb according to YOUR Standards as well as those of YOUR Friends and I am actually VERY Proud to Be One :

PROUD TO BE IRANIAN AND A MONARCHIST: Fereydoun Farrokhzad Up Close and Personal (Mid 1980's)

NEO CON WARMONGERS ? Tehrangeles Demo in Support of Iran's Greens

This is my Only and Last Comment in this Thread, so don't expect me to come back spilling Crocodile tears on a Foreign Conflict that Only troubles YOUR Moral Standards and adequate Typecast definitions ...

My PRIORITIES, LOYALTIES AND GENUINE TEARS are FIRST AND FOREMOST for My Fellow Compatriots, regardless of the conflicts in the region:
