I arrived in Berlin this afternoon from London. My flight to San Francisco via Amsterdam is at 6 in the morning, about 7 hours from now. I'm staying at a youth hostel. It's 15 Euros ($22?) a night for a bed in a room shared with six others -- plus 3 Euros for blankets!
It was a really nice trip: three weeks in Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam, Nice and London. I have a new appreciation for Europe and I will definitely be back. I have thought about moving here, but I'm a little worried that I might regret it.
My place in Albany, half an hour from San Francisco, is comfortable and I'm surrounded by good friends in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Still the thought of going to another country for a year or two is tempting. Bebeenam chi misheh...
I'll be awake for a few more hours, sitting in the hostel bar, drinking a beer and working on the site.
If you have any questions about the site or... I'd be happy to respond.

by kfravon on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:38 PM PSTIndeed, you live in that "heaven on earth' that is mentioned in all of 'ketabhaye asemani' - SF Bay Area that is.
Have a safe and delay-free trip home JJ.
Swapping
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:25 PM PSTHi Wishing,
Swapping apartments is a possibility. My friend Peyvand in London suggested that he would swap his apartment with mine for a couple of months. So maybe this is the best way to do it... moving gradually. I don't know...
Germany?
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:19 PM PSTDaryush, I like Germanhy a lot. Only it's too fricken cold! I just can't live somewhere that does not have enough sunshine. I was born and raised in Abadan... other than that, Germany is great. Berlin's modern architecture is magnificent. And the Germans are a bit dense, just like me!!
Go for it .....
by wishing (not verified) on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:17 PM PSTSince I am a chiken, you may not care about what I may say but I think you may regret it if you do not move .... it does not have to be a permant thing – say if you can sub-lease your place in Albeny (so you do not have to pack everything or have to gather everything you have again for when/if you are back) and move to Eroupe for a year. Even better – see if you can “flip” a place with someone. I know I would do it if I could – but a 9-5 job will not do
I Love Germany
by Daryush on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:14 PM PSTI love Germany. Wish that Iranians had the historical experiences necessary to be more like Germans, but no comparisons. Have a good trip back
Hilton Schmilton
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:14 PM PSTI'm not going to stay at the Hilton Nazy! Even if it was free. People who stay there are too clean and chic for my taste :o)
But...
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:09 PM PSTI know Niki. But Europe is great. It has so much charm. They are far more concerned about the environment, they are not war-mongers... they just have a good life and don't want to bother anyone. And they are so much more aware of the world than Americans are. Anyway, I'm daydreaming as usual. If I do go, it will be a quick decision. Right now, I'm scared of moving or doing anything that ruins my work routine... felan dar khedmaate shomaeem :o)
Hurry home!
by Nazy Kaviani on Thu Jan 03, 2008 02:07 PM PSTNo questions Jahanshah. Just wishing you a safe and comfortable return journey. You know, you could have checked into Heathrow's Hilton, which is available on half-day rates, too (a hotel that somewhat "rents by the hour," but not for customary reasons!). It would have cost you a bit more than this, but you might have been a lot more comfortable, and right at the airport, too. Anyhow, next time! Take care.
P.S. Love the chicken avatar. Please don't change it!
I don't have a question

(And please, stop all the nonsense about moving to Europe :-)
