Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud back on the French Riviera to announce their second film Chicken with Plums due to start production in June.

The duet announced a prestigious cast for their first live action movie including Chiara Mastroianni ( who already starred in Persepolis), exiled Iranian movie Star Golshifteh Farahani, French Stars Mathieu Amalric ( James Bond Villian in Quantum of Solace), Edouard Baer, Italian Star Isabella Rossellini ( daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rosselini), Eric Caravaca and Jamel Debbouze.

Partly based on the comic book, the duet have taken a radical step away from the original story and will shoot the film in technicolor and Cinemascope in tribute to the Golden Age of Italian Cinema. The Story spans from the 1930's to the 1990's and includes the plot of the original story of Satrapi's uncle Nasser Ali Khan a famous violin player who falls into a deep depression after his intrument is destroyed in an accident. Losing his inspiration he wishes to die.

The film is equally an allegorical tale and an Italian like Comedy.

Satrapi and Paronnaud don't intend to stop here since they announced a third movie to complete what they see as a Trilogy. The third being Le Onzieme Laureate aka the Eleventh Laureate ( a Bergmanian title ) which the directors explained will be a kind of Western Spaghetti set on the Caspian Sea between the 1900's and 1950's Iran.

Remember last June when Satrapi held a high-profile press conference waving about an official looking IRI document that purported to show the "real" results of the presidential election? That was subsequently proven fraudulent?

Another embarrassment from the French-Iranian community, of which there are many...

Anonymouse

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to some new Goshifteh movies
