CANNES: Binoche, Kiarostami, Shirine and the English Patient

The 63rd Edition of the International Cannes Film Festival is preparing to mesmerize the Cinema World in a few weeks with Tim Burton at the Jury's Helm. Kiarostami's much expected 'Certified Copy' will Premier at the Festival too. It is Kiarostami's First film shot outside Iran and in French and marks his second collaboration with Binoche after their experimental work on Shirine. Binoche is the Official Poster Face for the 63rd Edition of the Cannes International Film Festival.

First Encounter: Binoche offers flowers to Kiarostami (1997). This innocent gesture was to create a diplomatic incident with the IRI Authorities that intensified with Ahmadinejad's first term in office:

tomorrow cannes starts?

since i'm stuck here, instead of partying at cannes, i thought i'd look at some clips on this blog as a substitute.

thanks for the clips, as always. i never saw shirine,  i was deeply moved by the sorrow of 2008 women in audience, superimposed on the dying moments of the english patient superimposed on the electrifying music. how something so sad can be so beautiful at the same time.

 i'll definitely get the dvd, and also the collector's issue of playboy (to read the article, of course). i actually had a crush myself on ralph fiennes for quite a while.

keep us posted about the action at cannes
