Originality!

The problem with this issue is its lack of originality -- for it's been beaten to death already! However, for the folks (especially women) in Iran under all kinds of religious restrictions (and perhaps some curious men :)), it would be a novelty item!

While there are many different ways of looking at this picture :-), I view this in the context of today's IRI, its legislated human rights violations, and the common perceptions of the society regarding this issue (the veil). In my opinion, the absurdity and vulgarity of forced veil in Islam requires an antithesis that is equally extreme, within visual domain (middle-aged nudity). Note that nudity is not necessarily a form of extremism, but in Islamic context it is considered extremism. This also has the symbolic benefit of drawing attention to Islamic atrocities committed under the veil, hence removing it all to expose all the crimes under the veil. There must be no compromise with legislated laws limiting human rights (veil) and imposing limitations on the female population.

Also, note that IRI and their criminals in charge are already operating at the extreme end of this issue and have no more to say, or legislate regarding the veil. They have forced the population into their extreme corner and will only lose more support by pushing harder.

You have written same comment many times

If you wrote it once or twice, then I would not be so annoyed but  you keep repeating a comment that to begin with does not have a merit (these women never claimed that they are models so why should they have any kind of body for you to approve). You need to channel your energy in a more productive way than writing the same wrong comment twenty times.

…..And, yes, if it takes the naked images of hideous looking middle aged (male and females) bodies to draw attention to atrocities of Islam under the veil and against females, then SO BE IT as the next destination of this train. The Islamic veil and ideology has done far more harm to humanity than any nudity!

Dear Soosan, good point on beauty being culturally mutable!

However we are talking here and now. To be more "scientific" lets say by "here" I mean wherever Victoria secret has stores! :-) In such a geography and demography this album would be used only as scarecrow! :-)

I would like to point out that beauty is also mutable with regard to species! I am sure there are other species that find these ladies yummy! :)

There is a third option that preserves both the dignity and freedom of women. They are playing into the hand of mullas who want us to believe the only alternative to their draconian fashion is bare butt, naked mamas hanging out in the streets! ;-)

First of all, the links you have provided are wrong links. This is the March 8 celebration among men:

Nothing wrong with it, if it didn't include sexist men. In any case,  I should have said "most of the men," as this would have been more accurate. My mistake.

Please note that everything has a context. I am sure the poems in the above blog are beautiful. However, if all or most men who pasted poems on this blog were progressist and really respected and truly had the interests of women in their hearts and minds, I wouldn't have objected to their all-male sweet-poem pasting.

The behaviours of many of those men during the year have been sexist, rude and thuggish. This doesn't apply to you (as far as I'm concerned.) But when I see sexist men "celebrating" March 8, I want to vomit.

I have a good memory and remember insults some of these March-8ers :-) threw at me because of my feminist ideas. Some are so dumb that when I criticized their sexism, they couldn't understand what I was talking about, and because of their chauvinistic arrogance they didn't pose questions to understand what I meant. So, they decided that I had personal problems and was looking for sexism where it didn't exist. It's because these men are not only arrogant, but also totally ignorant of their backwardness and sexist attitudes, which they do not even intend to acknowledge or try to correct. Instead they choose to be demagogues, exactly like the Akhoonds they criticize.

FYI

40 years ago, some women were baring it all too (to protest), but the Islamist savages detained, abused, raped and shot any female suspected of any unIslamic acts. Even for activities as normal as wearing a swimming suit and swimming in their own swimming pools. These people (Iranians in general and females in particular) are still recovering from the shocks they received in the 1980s.

Since Islamic absurdity strictly evolves around the issues of sex and women, particularly presenting women as the individual and national property, it is quite appropriate for ALL Iranian females to bare it all in protest against Islamic absurdity. Bare it all and show the world what Islam has been trying to hide and considered as its property and has murdered millions for what you hide under Islamic veil.

Thank you so much for your support. You are one the rare men in this site who are intelligent and insightful. I'm proud of you. Are you Iranian? (your chosen name doesn't convey that).

The same men who do not like their country Iran to be controlled by other countries, do want to control the women's bodies, the feminist movement, and the limits of the women's rights.

For instance one of the traditional guys on this site copied and pasted a poem about women and then a bunch of sexist men copied and pasted other poems on women for March 8. It was an all male party by a bunch of sexist boys who wanted, and always want, to have fun no matter what the occasion. They are also trying to "pass" as defenders of women's rights as if intelligent women don't see through their stupidity.Women's rights and March 8 cannot be co-opted by a bunch of ignorant and inauthentic men.

There is even one guy on the site who always says that he "defends" the women's rights, but he also continuously and repeatedly uses sexist expressions such as this person or that person "having balls". The word "courageous" does not enter the mind of this double-talker.

As long as I am around, I won't let the sexist men succeed in co-opting the women’s rights issues, March 8, feminism, etc. I know that a very few of them are also thugs, but that is part of the Iranian lumpenist culture as represented by the iranian.com (its most contents and collaborators.)

It seems for most part what we're really dealing with in here is an internalization of the dominant Patriarchial values and sensitivities.

Who says Iranian society is not highly, traditional, conservative, religious, backward and for most part utterly reactionary?

The ideal of feminine beauty is not an immutable law. It varies and it is not universal.  While Heffner's empire would collapse in hours having these women featured in the U.S , it empires would have exponentially boomed if he had established its headquarter in Mauritanian country where tradition holds that among women, rolling layers of fat are the height of sexiness.  In Mauritania in order to make a girl big and plump and gavage the force feeding starts at very early age.  After all beauty is in the eyes of the Male beholder of that particular society.  While in that country they are suffering from overeating in west girls as young as 10 are suffering from anorexia. 

Now imagine if the lady portrait on this blog gets to publish her hint " NUDE" picture in  Mauritania. She would be the playmate of the year ...

May be all the playmates in the world from thin to thick have some strong message to send that only can be received by the intellectuals antenna ... What ever it is , I do not get it.

I mean couldn't these people take their cloths off 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years go, or even last year before the Egyptian girl took it off?

Why not being original, innovative, creative, and authentic....! Why, why, why!

But, I think the author of this article Az Ghafeleh Aghab Mondeh (i.e., feels she is left out) and in my opinion should follow suit and take them off if feels betrayed!

Thanks for expressing your views , with so much eloquence. I loved it and read it over and over.  All the other commenters have been frustratingly hateful of the mold breaking women .

      Just like Gandhi said " you must be the change  that you want to see in the world" ......As Iranians(especially the men) ,  we need to change our mindset about women, their bodies and their social role...........

       When it comes to women, our men have a long way to go . Some of the most progressive , left leaning , liberal and even democratic iranian men are so shamefully backwards in their approach to women and their issues that it makes one feel dumbfounded!

      Who were the people  who shouted "Ya too sari , Ya roo sari" ?It was our very own men who are "Gheyrati" and "be namoos" Those who associate any part of a woman's body with "Sin" and "immorality".
