EWWWWWWAAAWWW, here we go again

by Tiger Lily on

The poster is very clearly an incitement to hatred and violence, which is a criminal offense, yes, even in the state of Texas.

What the IRI does or doesn't do doesn't justify the action of the restaurant (a private enterprise)  owner, thousands of miles away, under different national jurisdiction. rabti nadare!

by Raoul1955 on

Due to the historical precedence of some folks committing [and often government sanctioned] acts of violence against blacks and jews, a poster depicting a negro or a jew being lynched would have [indeed] created an outcry the first day that it was put up, and not three decades later!

Has there been any documented violence against M.E.-looking folks

That argument does not wash. If person there was black; a jew or anyone else the outcry would be deafening. Right now people are objecting to it. If there is a documented case there would be a criminal case against the restaurant owner.

Do we want to wait until then. We already have documented cases against Sikhs and other ME looking people. We have blacks dragged to death in Texas behind pickup trucks. How far do we go before we say put it on hold.

Has there been any documented violence against M.E.-looking folks in the said town as a result of folks seeing or looking at that poster?  Has been up for over three decades now.

I will try my best to respond:

Why are you using the term "fake" Iranians referring to these guys

It is a personal opinion. I don't mean they are not from Iran rather they reject their Iranian part. Because they are so against anything Iranian. When I was a kid I knew people who went to London for a year then came back with a fake accent. Pretending to be "Westernized". That is what I mean if you suggest a better word I am open.

Why are they being accuse of leading the mob to lynch a poor iranian??????? Whoa. That is a little too serious a charge..

I agree and edited the post to remove it. But lynching is a big deal in America. It has been done many times. Approval of this poster is approving incitement to violence.

Remember words result in action. Sarah Palin put up a web site with a congresswoman in cross hairs. A bit later a mentally sick man attempted to murder that congresswoman. Do you think the guy would have done it without the picture Palin had up? How did the guy even know about the congresswoman. Do we have to wait for an Iranian to be lynched before we do something.

You don't get treated that way around here

Yes I do! AO told me to put a cork on it! I am always given suggestions!

I am not going anywhere and others have also responded to you. AO: Do you speat
for Fesenjoon now? Why don't you let him explain his own post.

Shame on both of you who fail to see and condemn this action.
Whenever there is an IRI act of violence I condemn it. There is no
hypocrisy except in you an Fesenjoon. Most of us have condemned acts of
IRI over and over. But it is not good enough for you and Fesenjoon.
Because you two have an agenda. To stir up hate against Iranians.

Now keep flagging my posts and I will write a blog. You go on; flag on and on. My pro-America; pro-Freedom! I see how pro free speech you are.

I am sorry but i have a few questions...

Why are you using the term "fake" iranians referring to these guys for merely statting an opinion and providing solid evidence , citing cases that were far more outrageous yet the outcome was not necessarily condemnation of the act?

Who said they were or anyone holding the same position, is approving this? where is your evidence?

Why are they being accuse of leading the mob to lynch a poor iranian??????? Whoa. That is a little too serious a charge... kinda way out there. DOn't you think?

And last but not least:

Why do you always take it upon yourself to do the Honorable and time-honored tradition of Noskhe pichi and Instruct others as what is it that they can dow ith themselevs??? You don't get treated that way around here my esteemed and erudite friend...So Vat Geevz?:)

I am not going anywhere and others have also responded to you. Shame on you too fake Iranians who in reality approve of this. AO: Do you speak for Fesenjoon now? Why don't you let him explain his own post.

Shame on both of you who fail to see and condemn this action. Whenever there is an IRI act of violence I condemn it. There is no hypocrisy except in you an Fesenjoon. Most of us have condemned acts of IRI over and over. But it is not good enough for you and Fesenjoon. Because you two have an agenda. To stir up hate against Iranians. You want to divide the Irainian people. I condemned the hostage taking and condemn this vile act of hate promotion.

The more I read more I am convinced you and Fesenjoon have no point at all. Just a vile Neocon agenda. It is so transparent most people see through it.

I think the poster may qualify under incitement to violence. That is illegal and would get the guy in trouble.

For Years we saw Iranians burning American flags and President doll shouting death to America ....And we also saw in lotsssss  of huge paintings with detestable slogans on buildings all over our town.....It was very hateful too !!! did we signed a petition against it ?! no wonder why you can find few people reacting like this man !!

if you are tired spending you life explaing that iranians are different from their governement .....we should be more motivated to have a governement who looks like us and do what we really want to restore iranian's reputation !

The American angle to the story

by iraj khan on

"We are horrified that Mr. Nonmacher used our wrongful imprisonment in Iran to justify his own racism. This kind of hatred and ignorance fuels hostility between the US and Iran and benefits no one.”

Sarah Shourd Speaking on behalf of the three young Americans who were released in September 2011.

Lynching has a long history in U.S. and cannot be taken lightly. In Texas they've lynched blacks for being black, they've lynched gays for being homosexual just recently.

You may say but that's Texas.

The following bit of news is about a Sikh man being gunned down:

"Man with turban was gunnd down at a park in San Jose California, the shooters had mistook the Sikh man as a muslim."

It even happens in one of the most liberal and peacefully diverse part of the United States. Iranian Americans need to be aware of the violence directed towards them by this poster.

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy

What a surprise, Iranians divided again on this poster.

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Someone is making money off racism towards Iranians in texas and we have some people making points in support of it.  Here we go again! Why not just start with denouncing this poster.  For JK its okay to laugh this poster off, he's confused, the rest of you America worshippers pointing out the double standards, what are you trying to accomplish?  If an Iranian says the same thing about an American, we would all speak out against that iranian too. (Anti-US Govt is a different matter and Everyone, American/Iranian/Cambodian should be engaged in that).

This is what the IRI in power has done to Iranians, given us all a bad name and humiliated us all with their policies.  The media calls the IRI Iranians and this confuses people in America and they come up with this stuff.  The Truth is Everyone on this post should be working together to correct the US media. Iran did not test a misile, Iran did not support insurgents in Iraq, Iran did not want to kill the saudi ambassador, Iran did not send satelites to space.  This is classic mis-information.  All the acts were done by the Hezbollahi Party in Iran, the same Hezbollahi party in Iran that has taken our country hostage.

Please all work towards correcting the media.  They keep using the word Iran, when they should say, the hezbollahi party in Iran.  They never called the taliban Afghanistan or the Nazi's Germany, stop them calling the hezbollahi party in Iran, Iran.  By the way I'm so glad I live in the UK at this time, feel bad for those of you in Amrika.

Is it free speech...?

by Mohammad Ala on

… a similar thing happened in Little Saigon in Westminister City in California to a Vietnamese ….and the result was different.  I guess when it comes to Iranians it is… freedom of speech.

I see Iranian bashing (covertly or overtly) is on the rise.  I cited the latest sanctions, the wrong use of Persian Gulf name even by Mrs. Clinton, and illegal sanctions against Chicago Convention in regard to civilian airplane parts and the many comments which people posted (drop the bomb on Iranians).

The majority of people who commented on Huston news article passionately defended the store owner… this in itself says something… Iranians, Mexicans or Indians are okay to be attacked.

If you find nothing wrong with the poster, then how about a person who was dragged to his death at the back of a pick up truck in Huston, Texas?

... the poster depicts the feeling of the many who indicated they would go to that hole in the wall…

… the hate is not on the rise?   You don’t agree with my reasonings? fine, stop demanding a change to title of this thread because it makes you feel uncomfortable… go ahead explain your point of view… you are an example of what is wrong with free speech.

great job niac for exposing the poster of fake lynching of an iranian at the hand of some posing texas cowboys.  there's no defense for someone posting this hateful poster for 30 years in his restaurant even though it is protected as free speech (something that is a rare commodity in i-ran).  but let me tell you something, as long as iri is in power, anti-iranian sentiment will only rise higher and higher in every corner of the world.

here are a few more scandalous lynchings of iranians.  are you willing to make a big deal out of these real pictures?

As someone who actually witnessed and lived through the last big backlash towards Iranians here in the U.S., let me say that I’m utterly unimpressed by the reaction to this shameful event.

It appears that most of you commenting on Iranian.com tend to grovel over RP’s latest dumb speech and take all NIAC bashing accusations of being an IR lobby as indisputable truth yet act as intellectually lazy insolents when it comes to anyone doing anything meaningful for all of us
Iranians.  Shame on you!

VPK - this is one of those rare instances in which I will

actually respond to one of your hysteria and constipation induced, mind numbing comments.  Here's my response:

Put a cork in it.  As usual, you have no clue about what you're talking about, and are spamming this thread.  No one is supporting racism.  We are criticizing hypocrisy and double standard.  No go drink some prune juice.  It'll make you feel better.

What I wrote was about hate speech.  This poster may qualify under another protected class relating to race and/or ethnicity but I don't think so.

There was not

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

one bit of anti Iranian hate that Fesenjoon and AO did not champion. Obviously they both strongly approve of the above disgusting hate message. Not only is it hate but it also is incitement to violence.

But of course the two gentlemen approve of it all the way. Joined by JK wow that is a real shocker!

By the way I condemned both hostage taking and anti Americanism from day one.

Differences between the IR and America

by Anonymous Observer on

in the U.S., people who criticize its wrongs get medals, like this guy, who, by the way, happened to be a "redneck" from Georgia (peef, peef, what an ignorant sub-human.  He's nothing like us educated and worldly Iranians.  We all have divan-e Hafez in our homes.  I bet you he had a dog instead):

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Thompson,_Jr.

In Iran, you get hanged from a crane if you criticize the government.

In the U.S., this poster belongs to a lone guy in some unknown part of Texas.  In Iran, America hating, burning American flags and making and owning racist anti-American posters is encouraged, is government policy, and is practiced by a great segment of the population, including some people on this very site.

Now, who has a better culture?

Mehrban

However in this case

by Mehrban on

My objection to this blog is that it presents the issue as

[Anti-Iranian sentiment in the USA is on the rise]

which is a complete misrepresentation of an undoubtedly offensive poster installed thirty years ago.

This phrase above has appropriately been taken out of the blog summary but is still in the blog's written portion.  Sorry to repeat this issue but it seems that Hafez FB has missed the point (intentionally maybe).

And that was regarding hate towards a US military veteran. A person who gave up his life for USA and gets treated like ***. Given that I do not think there is any legal recourse for the Texan thing.

However we are welcome to publicize it; shame the owner and boycott the business. My personal experience with Texas is a place I never want to go. I would be very glad that whole state left the union!

US Supreme court gave a First Amendment protection to hate s

by Mehrban on

On march second 2011 US Supreme court gave First Amendment Protection to Hate Speech.  The case was of the prtosters at military funerals.

[“Speech is powerful,” Chief JusticeJohn G. Roberts Jr. wrote for the majority. “It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and — as it did here — inflict great pain.”

But under the First Amendment, he went on, “we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker.” Instead, the national commitment to free speech, he said, requires protection of “even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate.”]

JahanKhalili

No

by JahanKhalili on

The whole concept of "hate speech" is obscene - and the people who imposed and normalized this concept should be persecuted.

Like I said, none of you probably endured the stuff that went on in 1979 here in America.

This is childsplay.
