iranian.com's 15th birthday present

I was on my way to a bar in Budapest last night to watch the Spain-Portugal match (how about that David Villa? My god he's fantastic!). I was wearing my vintage iranian.com t-shirt. It felt special. I remembered that fifteen years ago this week, this site was born as THE IRANIAN in my studio on the 28th floor of Waterside Plaza overlooking the East River in New York. Yaadetooneh? :)

I began thinking that growing up as a kid, the coolest thing was to wear a t-shirt with a major sport logo; Adidas was the favorite of my generation. Here I was strolling in a European capital proudly showing off  MY (and iranian.com shareholders' :) logo on my chest. I thought, wow... iranian.com has t-shirts just like Adidas. That's fricken awesome!

Well, my illusions of grandeur abruptly ended when I realized that, um, I'm the only one who wears an iranian.com t-shirt. Kheet shodam badjoor.

I'll tell you what's really great though.

(Completely by accident,) on iranian.com's 15th anniversary we're staging a concert for arguably the greatest and most influential Iranian rock band. They have set the standard for their field. Most admirably, they have been a voice with a conscience in this "Green Age". Now THAT's something to be proud about.

I'm talking of course about Kiosk and their concert in San Francisco this Sunday. That kid from Abadan can't believe he's collaborating with the coolest rockers around. Thank you Arash Sobhani and the gang!

And thank YOU all. iranian.com is the cup, you're the wine.

That is so nice Hengameh! Thank you for the entry and letting me know. Although it should be clarified that iranian.com is the most widely read Iranian site in English. The most popular sites are in Persian.

Hi JJ,

Congrat for 15th birthday. You published my first poem 5 years ago:

And I'll never forget it because it was the first time someone else has been able read one of my peom publicly.

Thanks for all.

JJ jaan, very well done, IC is a very special place. Thank you for creating this unique opportunity for Iranians (and Iran lovers) to stay in touch with each other and their beloved Iran.  I hope that we will all celebrate the 20th anniversary of IC with a hike at Tochaal :-).

Ps.  Sorry to have to miss the Kiosk concert in SF.  I'm sure that it will be great.

Azarin Sadegh

Happy Birthday IC!

by Azarin Sadegh on

Thank you dear Jahanshah for the wonderful platform you've offered to all the Iranians from every background...it is true that sometimes ic looks more like a Spanish arena, or a boxing ring, but in spite of everything, this site is the only place where we all can express ourselves so freely, and in real time!

I will open a delicious bottle of Merlot "a votre sante" on the eve of the 4th...(ok, I confess, I was already going to have a party that night :-)

Cheers, Az.

It is great to have a two-way media.   In this regard iranian.com has always been ahead of its time.   It takes a lot of effort to run a site like this.
