Blogs: Too many, too little room

Dear Bloggers,

In the past two years, the number of bloggers on iranian.com have increased considerably. We have poets, storytellers, history buffs, comedians, political and religious commentators... you name it!

However, the growing popularity has caused a problem too. The Blog Central page has a limited capacity of 30 blogs. That means if some bloggers are more active, it will take space away from those who do not blog as often.

Up to now I thought a limit of three blogs per day per person would be fair. But we have a number of bloggers who are very active and if the current trend continues, Blog Central would be filled by a few very active bloggers, and quickly push aside those who blog less frequently.

So I would like to ask all bloggers to limit daily blogs to a maximum of two. This way all bloggers can get a fair amount of visibility.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. And keep on bloggin'!

Love

j

Articles

by Jahanshah Javid on

Havinggoodtimes, thank you for your note. I hesitated to publish your piece as a feature article simply because a lot of articles have already been published on the anniversary of the revolution.

I'm glad you blogged it though. I myself only publish my writings in the blogs. This should not discourage you from submitting articles though.

Welcome to iranian.com!

Be sure I am one of your greatest fans. I´m not always in complete agreement with you, but who cares, I enjoy the nostalgia microcosm you have created.

Go on, if they pull your plug, I´ll leave my blogs to you ...  ;)

Good and bad posts

RedWine Jan, the blogging section is for everybody -- good posters and not so good ones. That's the whole essence of blogging, to allow everyone with every level of skill and intelligence to contribute.

But I do feature the best and most interesting ones on the front page.

This may seem like a lot of work but how 'bout categories and or subcategories for blogs.  ie...political rantings, poetry, movie clips, ashpazee.  Okay maybe this does sound like a lot of work.  Good luck with this.

I wanted to say that I am a big fan of your site in general, and of your blog section in particular. However, it would perhaps not be a bad idea for you to coax some of the old bloggers back to write here again.

When I first started visiting your site a couple of years ago, I remember that there was a wonderful variety of Poets, Writers, etc. who blogged for you. However, as times has gone by, I don't see many of them anymore. Sometimes a simple asking may just do the trick :)

Anyway, please keep your good work - Best!!

Majid Jan,

The comments box is primarily for comments in the form of text.

Embedded videos in comments are "loud" and "cheshmgeer" and should only be posted on rare occasions and in moderation rather than multiple times.

You will not find any blog or article where there are multiple postings of embedded videos in the comments.

It was nothing personal sweetheart :o)

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff4ci4-tY_0
Many men came here as Bloggers
Many men will pass this way
Many men will count the hours
As they live the longest day
Many men are tired and weary
Many men are here to stay
Many men won't see the sunset
When it ends the longest day
The longest day the longest day
This will be the longest day
Filled with hopes and filled with fears
Filled with blood and sweat and tears
Many men the mighty thousands
Many men to victory
Marching on right into battle
In the longest day in history

Lyrics to the song 'Suicide is Painless'

Through early morning fog I see

visions of the things to be

the pains that are withheld for me

I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN:

that suicide is painless

It brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make

all our little joys relate

without that ever-present hate

but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN

The game of life is hard to play

I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN

The only way to win is cheat

And lay it down before I'm beat

and to another give my seat

for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN

A brave man once requested me

to answer questions that are key

is it to be or not to be

and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN

'Cause suicide is painless

it brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

Hey, Darius is cool

by SamSamIIII on

I may not read most of his blogs but he is one of the very few patriots who still blogs here and wether his is copy paste or what ever, it,s a tiny bit of color in the midst of the Ommatie boring mumbo jumbos. At least his is truthful. & as for copy paste..who cares!!, very few read blog central anyways..why would anyone want to waste their time writing researched blogs !... and thats one reason I myself stopped writing time consuming  blogs here except my youtube vids or off and on true Persian poetry . I think Darius should be exempt from the rule & if his blogs going to bury my odd blog..then let it be..no sweat!!! He is a patriot!!! ..instead u should limit the junk on front page ;)

Cheers!!!

Timely

by Nazy Kaviani on

This is a timely topic, Jahanshah.

I think people who create original content in their blogs should receive better exposure on the site. You will agree that some poetry and writing which is self-published in the blogs section is of equal, if not greater quality than some of the featured writing and poetry articles.

I think organizing Blog Centeral's traffic is a good start to respecting the site's bloggers/writers. I think attention should also be extended to "Featured Blogs." I find it unfair when occasionally a piece of original writing gets bumped from the "Featured Blogs" list, only to be replaced by a cut/paste or a video clip feature. I believe if blogs without original content are not featured, the overall quality of blogging and writing on the site will improve. My two cents.

put that way, i see your point.  i don't know why anyone else would.  i know why I did.  i just don't see the reason, whatever it is, as being a sinister one.  there are so many other loopholes, it just becomes moot focusing on this all the time.

now... any suggestions on what i should fix for dinner?  :-))

If some people have many things to say, they could open an entry per day and put all they have to say on it! It is about keeping open the main page.

"if someone is registered, what difference does it make how many accounts they have?....but if someone is registered, who cares how many he/she has?"

First, let me ask you this question : WHY would someone NEED to register twice (or more) to have 2 or 3 user names?

The answer to this question, is the same answer to your own question from me. If someone use actively, two or more different username, it means they have a PURPOSE!! That's this purpose that I am against.

My main idea is : USE but DON'T ABUSE...

Now, to each person, their own idea !

Jahanshah Javid

One blog?

by Jahanshah Javid on

bajenagh jan, one blog per day is too limiting.

Eventually anyone can blog as many times as they like, but they won't all appear on the Blog Central page -- but will be listed only on their personal page.

Other blogging services like blogger.com do not have a single page where all new blog summaries appear. You just have your blog page.

anonymous fish

great idea JJ

by anonymous fish on

it truly will bring more diversity to the site and reduce some of the more trivial blogs.

souri jaan.  i'm not sure it really makes a difference.  you have to use a different email address everytime you register a name on IC.  so unless someone has a bunch of email addresses, he/she is going to be pretty limited as to how many registered names they can have anyway.  for example, i have two... one personal and one business.  i used one for AW and the other for AF.  i couldn't have another registered name if i wanted to.  on the other hand, i guess you could go to gmail or yahoo and have a zillion email accounts if you wanted.  so, never mind...lol.  anyway, my point is that just limiting the number of blogs is going to reduce the problem greatly.  just curious... if someone is registered, what difference does it make how many accounts they have?  i understand the multiple anonymous comments being from the same person being an issue... (that's just plain tacky... :-)  but if someone is registered, who cares how many he/she has.  do you honestly think that many people have more than a couple?  it gets back to that "assumption" thing.  if you don't know for sure... and you wouldn't unless JJ or Fooad told you... or the individual themself told you (as i just did... lol), do you reaaaaaaally know that for a fact?  i just think there are bigger things to worry about in life than that.  like what am i going to fix for dinner tonight!!!!!    :-0

you will have a hard time getting some egoists to voluntarily walk out of the spotlight.

might i suggest you limit the number of posts by one person that appear on the blog central front-page. a coder friend should be able to help to tweak the algorithm.

Dear Mr.Javid,There are enough room, but the problem is that everybody can write EXACTLY EVERTHING (L I E S).There must be a limit to freedom of speech.Cartoons...caroons...cartoons...anti-...

Souri

Multiple user names....

by Souri on

It's a very wise decision. Problem is: the phenomena of
multiple user names, will rise again. We have already this problem (you know it) same person posts 4/5 blogs a day with 2 # username, to say or rather copy/post the same (bigotries)

In fact when you read them, you can't remember which name they had used this time, as you know already the only one person behind all those blogs.

So, the question is: Will you (finally) take the initiative to stop people from having multiple user names, yes or not yet ?

Because, as long as they can have multiple user name, your limit of 2 or 1 blog a day per username, would not have any sense.

With all due respect,

Anahid Hojjati

2 even 1 blog per day per person is fine.

by Anahid Hojjati on

Jahanshah jan,  I don't have a problem with having a limit of 2 even 1 for number of blogs each person can have per day.  What I do not like is suggestion in the comment by Hajminator that if someone blogs twice a month, then that blogger would get priority over people that blog more often.  So if someone blogs three times a week and the blogs are all worthy and readers like them, why should this blogger get less priority than the one that just blogs twice a month?

capt_ayhab

I Agree

by capt_ayhab on

Even perhaps as one of the guys suggested, those who like to blog about years past, over and over and over again be given a special section. I mean how is it that posting an old song from googoosh called a blog?

While we are at it, is it possible to make the comments dual font(Farsi English) friendly? In another words, when 2 fonts are used in one blog/comment, the text control goes out of the door. Unless it is me the [mongol] who does not know what to do ;-)

Multiple Personality Disorder

Finally, thank you, thank you, and thank you

by Multiple Personality Disorder on

Most of these blogs that are taking up space are nothing but copy and past.  I don’t even open most of them anymore.  I just look at the avatar of the poster and skip them.

Let’s give creative original blogs a chance to flourish instead of being buried under a ton of copy and paste materials.  Did I say thank you enough?
