London Calling

Photo essay: Looks like I'm going to become a Londoner

by Jahanshah Javid
02-Mar-2010

There's a good chance I may move to London for six months at the end of March. I went there for an interview for a part-time job and got myself re-acquainted with the city. I had the best time hanging-out with friends.

You live in U.S and worried about U.S 'installation'?!

by benross on

I wonder how shallow a political statement can get... doesn't seem to have any limit.

Monda

Marge dear,

by Monda on

I believe it's NZ.  But set me straight on that if you can, cause Australia's one of the places I'd like to live and work in.  These things (US installations) matter to me.

Australia

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

I've heard only good things about Australia, except that the US military has an installation there too? Or is it New Zealand?

But, realistically, it is not like we see you every so often here in the US!  So, the more things change, the more they stay the same, I hope.

Come to Australia where you get the best of the UK and the best of the USA all rolled into one. Plus there is still lots of frontier to be chartered in this place.

You look good for 48! If you have time go and visit Oxford and surrounding villages, as well as the Cotswolds and Bath. London is great but the outskirts are traditional England. Surrey has some nice villages too. Paris is just a train journey away. Have a great time.

Mamnoon!

by Jahanshah Javid on

Thank you for your sweet and kind messages. I had the loveliest time there and I'm looking forward to be spending a few months. And I'll be close to Europe. There are so many places I want to visit... I'm very excited.

And it's good to be 48 :)

I've always wanted to go to London

by Gavazn on

I hear it has a great music scene and people have good humour. They're kind of eccentric and it seems a lot of originality comes from there - music, fashion, etc. Have a gret time JJ. I am so jealous.

Spiffing!

by anglophile on

Absolutely spiffing! Welcome back to the land of hope and glory. There are so many benefits in moving to London JJ.

  • First of all you'll learn some genuine English. You would drop that fake American accent - and pick up some fake English accent instead :)  BTW, American accent in England is viewed as sexy and modern by younger girls. Your spelling would become real. You'd regain your honour as the investigative journalist you once used to be and make London the centre of Persian blogging. Remember never ask where the rest room is. Loo, is the word.
  • Prepare yourself for many mornings of arse burning when you visit the loo to clear your system from last night's vindaloo. Always gulp down four or five pints of lager before going to London curry houses (Khan's of Bayswater is a bargain).
  • Your photopgraphy is that of a deeply depressed man battling with mid-life crisis. After all who comes all the way to London to take pictures of a coffee cup? London is a haven for the depressed. So, wouldn't be surprised if you become even more depressed. My only worry is that in your most depressed state you might become a target of those lefty Iranian women in their mid thirties looking to get out of England and have a spiffing time in SF (I am talkimg about the kind of lasses in Peyvand's circle). You are better off in Siamak's company. Who knows you may return to America with Mrs Javid No.3!

Have jolly good time old chap.

ps - beware of that Afagh guy and his band and give a call to Dizaei if you can.

amgw4 - it's not just the Iranians

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

A lot of AMERICANS born and bread are leaving this disaster called the USA. Even the military colleges are asking their students to take arabic and persian. A lot of academics have left the states too, when they are able to find work abroad. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Enjoy London

by anonymous111.2 on

It's a great city, although the lack of sunshine is always a depressing factor.

Enjoy your stay.  And of course, do not forget to post some photos of the Persian stuff at the British Museum.

If I can be any help to you do not hesitate to let me know.

Good luck.
