Sanaz Raji

This is lazy journalism...

by Sanaz Raji on

Having someone like Marandi speak on Al Jazeera and CNN with the banner down below "rare interview from Tehran" legitimize his views as one that all Iranians agree with. This is lazy journalism, plain and simple. At least both channels should have invited a second guest with differing views to give another side of the story- the one that we are all too familiar with in order to give a clearer picture about the situation in Iran. We are able to spot the obvious lies when Marandi speaks, but I doubt the average person watching would understand.

Apparently Marandi graduated from the University of Birmingham (UK) and completed his PhD under the direction of Professor Scott Lucas:

//www.uscanada.bham.ac.uk/staff/lucas.shtml

Lucas is also an adjunct professor at the Institute of North American and European Studies, University of Tehran- the same place that Marandi teaches at.

On a side note, if America is such an evil place, he should renounce his US citizenship. Practice what you preach!

I hate to say it Yet at the expense of being called conspiracy-minded guy, I say something is totally fishy. And i really love to see an open - minded , Liberal Individual to come forward and debunk that theory for me!!!!

Why doesn't the State Department revoke his citizenship? How does he justify his dual nationality being a Hezbollah boy? If things go tits up for the regime he will be flying to LA drinking pina coladas. I've already put him on my execution wish list.

by G. Rahmanian on

After all these years and seeing so much in the real life, it still amazes me how low some human beings--here, I'm using the term, "human being," loosely--can fall. A question for those who know Mr. Marandi: Does he have a job at Evin, too?

charandi.  lol.  that's funny onlyiran.

it's one thing to support free speech and promote expression of different views .  but the view that defends the thugs who rule iran, the same view which denies the torture and killings by this police state that kills demonstrators in the guise of execution of drug traffickers does not belong in the realm of free speech.  there's nothing sincere about this speech.  this is a form of hate speech.

I hate to see this guy to be interviewed

by comments on

I hate to see this guy to be interviewed by a professional news agency, and really don't see any reason. First, they address him as a Professor, and second, his English is pretty good and he presents well and acts calm. I am sure that some non-Iranians believe his scattered views.

Are you supporting human rights in Iran? He thinks human rights means his individual power to beat his wife, and treat his children as slaves.

p.s. Marandi reminded me one of my teachers who was furious one day and called me "madar ghahbeh" in the class when I was 14! He immediately explained to the class that it means your mother drinks coffee:) and he apologized many times later.  By the way, I finally watched a video, THEN commented!

Democracy my foot!

by Milan on

I respect anyone's rights to speak, agreeable or not, as long as what he says does not promote or condone murder, rape, or other forms of violence against ordinary people. Hopefully, his days are numbered--would love to see him forced into a clean shave before his trial:)

Isn’t he the same Islamist Rapist who hosts the lovely Leverette couple each time they visit Tehran?

If this is the guy, his daddy was close to mass murderer Khomeni & is now one of the gofers for the Head Rapist Khamenei.

Soosan Khanoom

Sheefteh jan I agree with

by Soosan Khanoom on

Sheefteh jan I agree with you but i also should emphasize that iranian should achieve democracy from within ...... any help from U.S ... especaillay US media is not a Help at all. That will probably destroy our struggle and  preventing us to achieve democracy forever ........  gives the hard-liners good reason to arrest and kill more ......

Do not trust American Media anyway ......... if they are with the people then that is too good to be true ......

Shifteh Ansari

Soosan Khanoom

by Shifteh Ansari on

With all due respect, I recommend that you seek and view more than a couple of instances of this guy's appearances on western media, and for a longer period than the past 20 months. Lest we forget, up until 2009 when Iranian showed that there WAS another set of viewpoints to what was said by Iranian officials, the IRI's side was for the most part the ONLY side people could see on American media, including CNN. If it weren't for people who took their lives into their hands to walk on Tehran streets, some losing those very lives in the process, the American media would not even think to look for other points of view among Iranians. People like Mohammad Marandi were delivering monologues on what was happening in Iran. Yes, it is a democracy and everyone should say what they wish. It is our right, also, to turn off the TV and to expose those who have systematically lied to the world on behalf of Iranian people, a nation that told the world in 2009 that it must not be mistaken for the IRI.
