These protests are just plain bogus. The protests won't change anything. All the protests will do is damage people's cars.

by American Dream on Wed Nov 18, 2009 07:40 AM PST"1) The German Law does not apply to other countries. It is specific to the history of Germany and it's responsability in the Holocaust and WWII."
Why are Germans being punished and their freedom of speech being violated for something that happened more than 64 years ago?
2) I don't see why a Democratic society should tolerate the presence of a TV like Sahar or Press TV on their soil when that country ( Iran) does not respect Journalistic ethics and more importantly refuses foreign journalists to work on their soil. If that was the case then I suppose at the Hight of the Cold War America should have allowed the Soviets to propagate their propaganda when they had invaded Afghanistan.
Two wrongs don't make a right. Freedom of speech and expression are a must in all democracies.
Press TV wishes to boast itself as the IRanian equivalent of Al Jazeera. Well Press TV is NO Al Jazeera neither in terms of quality, objectivity or Journalistic Ethics.
Why would Press TV want to be like Al Jazeera? Al Jazeera calls the Persian Gulf the "Arabian Gulf". Al Jazeera is absurd to say the least.

It is not meant to be democratic decision on behalf of the German goverment ( which is by all accounts Democratic) but Germany's own way of seeing itself accountable for it's past and make sure that no German will ever be responsible for the ressurgence of the Nazi Ideology again in the history of mankind. Call it undemocratic or Utopian, I think that given that Hitler was elected democratically, the justification behing this law is a moral standpoint by the German people at large who want to dissociate themselves with that dangerous ideology.
West German Chancellor Willy Brandt Kneeling in Warsaw during a State Visit in 1970's in front of Monument dedicated to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. and the victims of the Holocaust to Beg forgiveness in the name of the German People.

It is the Moral Responsability of Democratic countries to stand for the People who struggle for Democracy as was the case let's say for Poland during the Solidarnosc mouvement or during WWII when America and the West stood against the Nazi's and stopped them to propagate their propoganda in the West.
Iran should Not be an Exception to the Rule.

Darius Kadivar, I was writing about the west
by American Dream on Mon Nov 16, 2009 07:45 AM PSTI was writing about freedom of speech and expression in the west.
The topic was about Press TV in the U.K.
"As for Michelle Renouf she a well known Australian socialite of Austrian Origine "
Really? I have never heard of Michelle Renouf.
"France's Far Right Jean Marie LE PEN"
I didn't know who is this guy. He must be big news in France. Thank you for posting that informational clip about Mr. Le Pen.
I don't agree with Ms. Rebouf. I don't agree with Mr. Le Pen. That being said, with freedom of speech and expression in the west they should be able to say what they think. Why should they be fined or put in jail for their speech or expression. If they are fined or put in jail in what way is their situation any different from Mr. Bahari? Any censorship of freedom of speech and expression in the west is wrong.
American Dream Oh Yeah ? I wonder if Maziar Bahari agrees ;0)
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Nov 16, 2009 07:35 AM PSTThen Why are Reformist Journalists jailed in IRan, Newspapers closed down and the internet filtered in IRan as well as any foreign media from VOA to Radio Farda.
journalists arrested in IRan:
//www.rsf.org/Repressive-mania-continues-three.html
"A crackdown against journalists and cyber-dissidents is continuing in Iran with both Iranian and foreign journalists caught in the eye of the post-election storm, Reporters Without Borders said. Among the latest arrests was that of a correspondent for the US magazine Newsweek, Maziar Bahari, picked up at his home in Tehran on 21 June.
“The authorities are using all possible methods to drive foreign journalists out of Iran, where they are unwanted witnesses to bloody repression,” the worldwide press freedom organisation said. “The arrest of the Newsweekcorrespondent is a clear sign of the regime’s determination to intimidate journalists whether Iranian or foreign, local or international newspaper correspondents.”
The latest arrests bring the number of journalists picked up and imprisoned since the disputed presidential election to 26."
As for Michelle Renouf she a well known Australian socialite of Austrian Origine (Just like Hitler who was not German but Austrian ) and a NEO NAZI and Holocaust Revisionist whose comments in Germany would lead to being Fined or worst imprisonement given Germany's responsability in the Holocaust.
If Some marginal Iranians may not be as senstitive to the Holocaust Denial debate it may be because they only lost 200 people due to the WWII Conflict that cost the lives of 70 Million men, women and Children amongst which 6 Million Jews were EXTERMINATED by the Nazis. I suppose IN YOUR BOOK That was a DEtail in the history of WWII . In that I am sure you would be in good company with France's Far Right Jean Marie LE PEN :

Darius Kadivar, it all boils down to freedom of speech
by American Dream on Mon Nov 16, 2009 07:13 AM PSTIt all boils down to freedom of speech. Press TV and Sahar TV should also be given the right to freedom of speech and expression.
The clip you posted wrote that Michelle Renouf was austrian. Austrians speak and write German. The name Michelle Renouf does not appear to be German. The name looks French.
IRI strategy for dealing with facts and the media
by ramintork on Mon Nov 16, 2009 03:27 AM PSTQ: What is this big elephant doing in this room?
A: What elephant?
Q: The one that we can all see?
A: What, you think that it is unusual to find elephants in people's rooms? In Israel and US everyone has an elephant in their room.
Q: That is debatable, besides your elephant is suffocating the people in the room.
A: This is an elephant which was brought in by the foreign conspirators, and the Zionist.
Q: But it is your elephant, it has your name on it!
A: I can only speak for the room itself and not the elephant. Is it my fault that you did not do your research in who owns this animal?
Q: But you own the elephant.
A: It is your shortcoming if you find me in this room and although I am in charge of rooms and allegedly you find my name on the elephant you have come up with the misconception that I have anything to do with an elephant which you claim is mine. Besides this is not an elephant it is a horse, an Islamic horse! We consider it as part of our national right to keep our Islamic horses in our rooms!
You can't compare FOX News and Press TV because
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Nov 16, 2009 01:18 AM PSTNor is there ANY possible parrallel between the American Media's pluralism and Iran's heavily censored and one sided Media.
For every Conservative Media in the US, you will find a Liberal Media to compensate for their views.
Also America and Western Medias work within a Free Society where the government is not a dictatorship like in Iran. Every News media will have it's contradictors and will remain accountable if it distorts the truth be it by the readers and society in general. You can't just speak crap without expecting some backfire at some point.
Otherwise How could Obama ever have even been elected if all news in America was boiled down to FOX news version of social and political views in America ?
This Oversimplification of the West and it's medias in the eyes of IRI apologists but also in general by most Third World dictatorial Medias who try to present themselves as equal in professionalism and objectivity is truly a pathetic attempt to divert people from the real issue: The Freedom of PRess in their own country which is inexistent.
How can Press TV claim to any objectivity to anything when nearly all Reformist Newspapers are shut down and no other authorized media in IRan can have their say or contradict them ?
They are not the only State Sponsored Media in IRan. Another one is SAHAR TV which has made its reputation on hosting Revisionist historical debates on the Holocaust and inviting NEO NAZI revisionists like Michelle Renouf which they present like a Human Rights Activist.
HOLOCAUST A MYTH: Michelle Renouf on Iranian SAHAR TV
This is PATHETIC !
With all their shortcomings the Western PRess IS PLURALISTIC where as PRESS TV and other IRANIAN STATE SPONSORED Medias are NOT !
if you think PTV is legit, i've got prime swamp land to sell ya!
by jondoe5000 on Mon Nov 16, 2009 07:54 AM PSTAll news agencies have an agenda. This is not a secret. Fox News is conservative, MSNBC is leftist, etc, etc....but at least they REPORT HISTORIC EVENTS, even if they do insert their own agenda. The thing with PressTV is that they completely and unabashedly turn a blind eye to historic events that occur in their own country. Here's a great example for you. Remember the silent march in Tehran, 17 June 2009? Millions of people were there. Does this not constitute a historic event? Mind you, not since the 1979 Revolution has such an assembly come together in a public venue. THE SILENT MARCH WAS A HISTORIC EVENT. They are big fat zeros when it comes to legitimacy. And, anyone who works for PressTV should not call themselves journalists. They should call themselves stooges, esp. those Brits and Americans. How can they live with themselves? They are total sellouts. Have they no shame? Is the money really that good?

by Benyamin on Sun Nov 15, 2009 05:58 AM PSTUnlike the Uk iran`s wealth in its entierity(history,culture,religion money and so on) has been taken by Khameneie`s unroyal circle of leadership at any cost and therefore the current iranian leadership acts as if they "own" Iran and everything within it! that is why no one in Iran can say anything about the media in Iran but any one decides to do so then they are only allowed to talk once because the regime wont give the second chance. We can call it Honey Bee policy.
where as in the UK the country is owned by everyone and the royal family is just symbolizing the country. I am glad that PressTV is being PRESSED for what they have been reporting.

FOX NEWS = Rupert Murdoch, Neo-Cons, Zionists, Nazis
MSNBC = Far Left Democrats
CNN = Zionist international (wolf Blitzer)+ Left national
BBC = British Nazi conservative agenda, pro-zionist
AlJazira = Sunni Arab, British agenda
Just like the "Hollybooks" they each mix some good, neutral words with their own agenda to make their words seem fair & neutral.
People are not stupid and illiterate anymore. At least not all. People see behind their words and catch what's missing from their news, people catch the lies and exaggerations.

(Of course I visit IC way more often than that.....:O)) I like to see the sports news, soccer news, etc on PressTV website.....I did learn something there.....I read about Persian turquoise mine in Iran and also this beautiful cave discovered by British spelunkers in 1976....it is just gorgeous, it is full of stalactites and stalagmites....

I read a bizarre article on Press TV website, the article said that soybean can cause infertility among men. The reality is that China is the biggest soybean (tofu is made of soybean) consumer in the world, and also is the most populous country on planet Earth with 1.2 billion people. China forces their citizens not to have more than one child. It looks like soybean products make people too fertile instead of infertile, :O))) I guess we can't trust Press TV too much:

Press TV is a lousy propaganda machine
by ramintork on Sat Nov 14, 2009 06:13 PM PSTAnd not even a good one! They don't fool anyone other than those who are already fools!
They even contradict themselves, I could have some respect for their shrewdness if they had any but they are just beyond stupid.
Here is what they had on the $18.5BN found in Turkey
//www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=101964§ionid=351020102
with the title Iranian wants his $18.5BN back and on the same web site we have:-
Turkish minister denying the $18.5BN
//presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=102063§ionid=351020102
Followed by Ahmadinejad denying that there was such money in Turkey!
So if the money was not write there why write a story that the Iranian with his lawyer wants his money back. It just shows that this regime is so pothetic that no one could cover their tracks and Press TV as an organization that is suppose to protect their interest is useless when it comes to doing such a task.
