People surpise me

by lelakoopal

Sometimes it surprises me how people can be just so dishonest. It's not difficult to tell the truth, it's a heck of a lot easier than lying because then you just dig yourself a deeper hole!! Sure, I've told my share of lies, but what teenager hasn't? What disgusts me is when people tell so many lies they start to believe them. That is truly dysfunctional. In my first year of high school alone I have met a large amount of honestly rotten people. People that will step on others to get ahead, people that lie, girls that expose themselves to the entire student body to attain the attention of one boy that will most likely forget them once the next picture of a new girl comes out, and friends that will backstab, cheat, and lie to get something from you. I'm not saying everybody is like this, but overall, most of the high school kids (well at least at my high school) are. After the first semester I learned my lesson and stuck with the people that have repeatedly proved themselves to be my friend. Now I did not just ditch all of my other ones, but the ones I have an intimate friendship with are chosen because of their actions and their proven faithfulness. Sadly, I have many more lessons to learn much like this one in my next three years, and for the rest of my life. But for anyone who hasn't learned this lesson yet, heed my warning: Keep the friends you have and don't trust someone until they have proven they deserve it.

I think there is a saying

by Feshangi on

I think there is a saying that goes something like this: tell me who your friends are and I tell you what kind of a person you are.  You are very smart in choosing good friends who are probably among the most precious assets in your life.

Quality vs. Quantity...

Good friends are good, bad friends are no friends at all; that is where quality counts more than quantity. Few real friends are far more pleasant to be with than many acquaintances masquerading as friends from whom you get nothing but peer pressure leading to doing and being what you really do not want to do or to be.

And it just gets worse.  The good thing about what you are doing is that you ARE learning lessons and moving away from these people.  At every stage (and every age) of your life... You will always have people who lie and cheat.  As you are so clearly emotionally matured and advanced for your age, let me tell you something... The only reason people lie and hurt others is because of their own insecurities.  Doesnt matter how old you are, people's insults and lies are usually born through their own weaknesses and shortcomings.  So without sounding condescending, i extremely impressed at how you handle yourself.  SOME people are content to be jerks, they tend not to change, the most important thing for you is to acknowledge this and allow it to wash over you.  Accepting they are that way, is actually a good release.  Dont ever let people's words bother you.  As long as you know who you are and what is important to you, thats all that really matters!
