You nailed it here.  It's "zerang bzi" all the way!!!  Look at what Bavafa has written me below.  He calls the men and women of the United States armed forces "mercenaries."  These are the same people who, for very little or no reward, will take a bullet for him because of his American passport.

And I am a firm believer that the dumbest thing one can do is to join any military, and the US military will just earn you the grand champion for dumbness. First, if your motivation is financial then this is the land of opportunity so if you can not make it here, then you just deserve the US military. And if your motivation is giving back to the society then there are a zillion other ways that you can do just that without getting involved in murder. This is one military that sticks its nose in every corner of the world business and kills, grand definition for mercenaries, only cheap hire mercenaries.

The problem has many angles.  It's a combination of arrogance, insecurity, being a leftover fossil Marxist who lives in a perpetual state of revolution, being totally brainwashed by IR propaganda, antisemitism and paranoia about Jews, paranoia about the "West", believing in conspiracy theories, envy, failure to educate one's self, self-imposed cultural isolation and an unwillingness to properly integrate into the society and the resulting lack of a proper understanding of the American culture and society, and a few other factors.  

As a result of the above, we are decades and generations behind other groups in integrating ourselves into the American society.  I see other immigrant groups such as the Irish or Italians, or even Cubans.  You can see that these people come to America to become Americans.  Most Iranians come to America to reap its benefits and then move back to Iran.  And in the meantime they live their lives as outsiders.

I have an Italian friend who is the son of a first generation Italian immigrant family.  His father, who still speaks English with an Italian accent, moved to America back in the 1960's and started a plumbing business.  A couple of years  ago, my friend got his hands on some money and bought himself a BMW.  His father wouldn't speak to him for a week because he was disappointed in his son for not buying an American made car.  He thought that the son needed to pay back the society that allowed him the opportunity to make that money.  What are the chances of that happening in an Iranian family?

I'm a firm believer that we have to serve the society that has granted us all these opportunities.  I even tried to enlist in the U.S. Navy a few years back, but was turned down because of a congenital heart defect (yes--it turns out that my pure Persian genes were defective.  So much for our superior race). My cousin is a U.S Marine and is currently serving in Afghanistan.  He makes our family proud.

There are some good Jewish comedians. I like the "Mexicans" more Carlos Mencia, George Lopez, Paul Rodrigues, Pablo Francisco,  and well many more...

 But do you actually think the jews or the mexicans that are comedians actually believe/look-down upon/mistreat thier own people? The typical Iranian moves to Califorrrrniahia and changes his name from Shaheen to Sean. The typical Eye-ran-ian is much different person than a jewish/mexican American.

Because you are implying that all of our cultural problems are a reflection and caused by the menace of the regime that is upon us. While i am not gonna deny certain negative aspects that have been exerted into our psyches, I would have to say that even if we become successful in establishing a supre duper Totally secularist, The best that any revolutionary movemnet and liberal crowd can buy. You can not wash these traits out of our people and their system within.

I am sure you as well as others remember very well how certain aspect of the culture has remained unchanged from pre-79.

Oh yes. "We invented wine, the guitar, alcohol, and a whole bunch of other things to make the world eternally grateful to us"... I was once upon a time one of these types of Iranians too. But after a while, one eventually begins coming out of this tribalistic viewpoint, and take a more humanist approach: Not only did all other nations contribute greatly, but tribalism doesnt even make any fuckin sense anymore. At least to me it doesnt.

good blog fesenjoon.  you could have added 'ghod boodan' to your list which actually parthianshot did well in demonstrating it.  i mean the type of iranian that can't even tolerate satire of another iranian about his people.  it must be tough to be an iranian stand-up comic.  can you imagine parthian at a maz jobrani show?

also how about the iranians who think everything in the world originated from iran.  banking, mail system, atom, dishes, ... just about anything... and after all these phenomenal inventions and discoveries, we've just taken a break for a thousand years. i think, in a way, this stereotype is reflected in our abadani jokes and their laaf zadan.

RG is right....other immigrants share your sentiments, too! If you are an immigrant....you will have ambivalent feelings for many different things.....sometimes, your heart is torn between your adopted country and your home country.....

I will not use the word "hypocrite"......I will say that I like here and dislike certain things at the same time......it is a contradictory feeling!

My favourite bit is "I am sophisticated"....

But you know a lot of what you attributed to "Iranian_americans" can also be applied to other immigrants to this melting pot of USA, based on my own observations. (to start with we have Italian-americans, Irish Americans , all with close ties to home). I lived in UK for 8 years before moving to US 14 years ago, and I can tell you that immigrants find it much easier to integrate and settle  in US than say in UK. US is still the best place to immigrate to in my opinion. I also think that the attachement to ones motherland is very healthy. I love going back home once a year and am guilty of some of the stero types in your blog. I live in Southern California with huge Iranian community and have not come across anybody with serious anti_US, anti Jew, let alone pro regime sentiments, not in public at least!

Wonderful and thought provoking. I dsiagree with Parthian's criticism of your. We have to be self-critical and highlight our shortcomings as well as our many strengths. Unfortunately, I have seen many of the stereotypical Iranians which you are referring to and this is because of a serious identity crisis. The bottom line is that you should either be against this regime or for it. Unfortunatlely, Iranians living abroad are only concerned about their own self interest and advancing their own economic position. As you say, Iranians demosntrated last year and then the interest withered away. The solidarity against the regime must gain momentum but demonstrations are not enough. There must be more practical measures to overthrow this evil cancer in our country.

You are a gifted writer that can put things in a simple and humorous yet affective way.

Take this as your "mo' zal" (although I have no idea what it means, is it Farsi?) Anyway…see if you can do your part to try to shorten the gap in those division.

I honestly think that there are far more of us that that believe in a greater good of Iran and Iranians then those that are either hard core IRI supporters or hard core West supporters. It is just that they are really good to use slogans and ways to stir things up and polarize us to a Black and White system of thinking.

Yeah, or when they claim they support Iran's national interests, then shut up about how Russia is usurping Iran's 20% Caspian Sea rights, or is delaying finishing a nuclear reactor that should have been retired by now!

I think people exaggerate too much. We say white European Americans suck at math, but we still look up to their icons in math and physics like Brian Greene, Madelbrot, Edward Witten, or Feynman all the time. And if we're in the medical field, it's people like Denton Cooley or Michael DeBakey that are what we consider our professional idols. And Im not even going to talk about the Bill Gates and Wozniaks and Steve Jobs of the tech world. Yeah, I admit Americans suck at math, but only because theyve learned how to outsource it at low to intermediate levels. We havent. We think we're smart because we know what a second order Diff Eq is, but we still cant finish a simple PWR nuclear reactor after 40 years now.

I'd rather call it a mo'zal. Challeneges can be tackled. It has a positive ring to it. But Iranians? They have a genetic predisposition to resist pluaralism. In every Iranian's view, it's either my way or the highway, or as we say, heech kee heechee nemifahmeh.

Look at how the NIAC and the Pahlavi supporters and others are at eachothers throats. They dont need me to bring division amongst them.

Funny and sadly the truth. Yes the level of hyporcracy among many citizens of omatestan  of all flavors, specialy among islamo communist green or purpole or what ever color they choose now and day is simpy too much!!!!. I like it when they say, they are against war, against sanctions, against assisinations, against violence, against killing, against any pressure on mullah's, against litteraly any action (even symbolic ones!) and  they are aslo allegedly against the regime as well,(supposedly it will go away by it self!) but the same regime they don't like has a right to build nuclear bomb! 

oh and they are against U.S intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan, but they won't live one minute under sadam or taliban riule! 

And when it comes to killing, if muslims kill muslims by millions that's ok, seriously it is!!!! but god forbid if ten people get killed by U.S forces, or two people get beaten up by Isrealis, you will never hear the end of it!!!!
