Karbala syndrome

"Iran, Once Upon A Time"

Eight-part documentary by British director, Kevin Sim, about Iranians and their reflections on martyrdom as learned from Imam Hossein's story, particularly vis-a-vis a potential US attack on Iran. A group of people get on a bus to go to Karbala, and their reflections and those of their families make up most of the story in the film.

One more thing...

by Ali P. on

 Nakhayr....nemeezaaran beh kaaremoon bereseem...

  Fascinating nation we are...!

Arabs attack (unprovoked), invade, kill Iranians, enslave our wives and daughters, burn our libraries, shove their religion down our throats. When there is upraising in Mazandaran against them, Omar sends army to put it out. In the army? Hossein-ebneh-Ali!

1400 years later, we mourn his death, in some internal struggle for power within Arabs!

You want to cry? Read about where we were, and where we are today.

You want to see a piece of heaven? Find Iran on the globe.

You want a martyr, a hero? Look for someone who shares your love for the country, for liberty, for humanity. An Iranian who died, some sixty years ago, in the hands of the followers of this same Imam Hossein:

Ahmad Kasravi Tabrizi.

Iranian lawyer, intellectual, nationalist, historian, linguist, author, activist.

He's buried near Teheran. You don't need to go all the way to Karbala.

Rare breed

by Ali P. on

I had seen the first clip here before. The gentleman's name is "Kamran"( not Gholam-Ali), has an attractive, veilfree fiance` (probably girlfriend), has a youthful, veilfree mother, WITH A DOG,... IN THE HOUSE ( a fancy house, too!),they all sit on chairs( not on the floor), AND, he seems to be deeply and genuinely infatuated with the saga of Karbala.

Allaah o Akbar.

Live and let live.
