If you save me I will work for you.” He says that right afterward a wave appeared and carried him back to shore. This brush with death intensified his long-held quest for spiritual truth. He had looked into "Buddhism, Zen, I Ching, Numerology, tarot cards and Astrology".[21] Stevens' brother David Gordon brought him a copy of the Qur'an as a birthday gift from a trip to Jerusalem.[13] Stevens took to it right away, and began his transition to Islam."

   You are right! "Morning has broken" was 1st published in 1931, popularized by Cat Stevens in 1971 'cause he added the Christian hymn on his album:

He was actually close to drowning, but at the moment he promised that if he would survive the situation he would become dedicated to god. He survived, converted to islam and changed his name.

Thank you, MG, for your kind words and link.......the only Cat Stevens' song I know is "Morning has broken"......he made it famous when he was still a Christian.....sometime I hear the song on country music station:
