I was reading about the blonde hair/blue eyed Persians and it really hit home.
I am a very tall, brown haired, blue eyed woman. I had dark blonde hair as a girl. I grew up in NY and was born in Jan 1965. I was put up for adoption and never met my mother. However, she took the time to name me “Suheyla Ameri”...Growing up in the US as a blue eyed girl, I never realized that the name was Persian until a friend told me. Nobody would have ever guessed that I had Persian blood because of the stereotypes of what Middle Eastern people should look like.
If anyone has any ideas on how to contact any Iranian relatives (through an organization potentially), Please let me know. I would love to know about or meet my mother or father. My e-mail is gromolluk@Aol.com
my name is Suheyla

by Detective Puroot (not verified) on Wed Feb 25, 2009 09:05 PM PSTI disagree with Arian who doubts you being Iranian. You indicated a last name Ameri, that is Iranian, because of that "i" at the end. Not that an Arabic national can not have a similar name, but because it can very well be an Iranian name also.
If Ameri is your last name. The your best bet is to approach the Iranian Interest Section at the Pakistani Embassy in DC. The address is www.daftar.org
Explain the situation and tell them how important the issue is to you and ask them for guidance. Don't give up, if the first person you talk to is short of time and discourages you, call again a few weeks later, perhaps another employee would guide you.
Your main key to success is the word Ameri. Conduct a search for all Ameri names in USA, there are many. Call them and ask them one by one, if they know a possible link.
good luck
Try this.

Dear Suheyla
by Arian (not verified) on Wed Feb 25, 2009 02:42 PM PSTI doubt that you're Iranian. Not because of your blond hair and blue eyes, both my grandfathers had blue eyes and half of my relatives do too.
But if your mother wanted to give you an Iranian name, she would not have spelled it that way.
Suheyla is not the way Iranians pronounce your name. It does sound like the Arabic pronunciation and I hear Lebanese are amongst the lightest colored hair and eyes of the Mediterranean race.
Nice try though and Good luck!

by Yachov on Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:54 PM PSTIf you can locate your surname here this might be a good place to start. You can talk to others with the same surname.

Also, obtaining the adoption records, which sometimes requires a court order, will identify parents. With that information you can begin a genealogy search.
