February 14 (25 Bahman): developing news
by Shifteh Ansari
14-Feb-2011

And so, here we are again. After months of silence achieved through unbelievably violent suppression, intimidation, arrests, torture, and executions, the people of Iran are preparing one more time to take to the streets in solidarity with the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, and to protest Iran's state of total political and civil suffocation following last year's fraudulent elections.

Just as Ali Khamenei and his subordinates were getting really comfortable calling the 2009 uprisings "sedition," and the protesters "seditionists instigated and funded by foreign powers," the people have mobilized to take to streets another time.

Though the official application for a license to demonstrate was filed last week with Iran's Interior Ministry by Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi, the impression one picks up from visiting the Iranian cyberspace is only marginally indicative of support for the two men as "leaders" of the movement. It appears that the Green Movement continues to live, much as it first started, without the need for leaders to tell it what to do.

The demonstration is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. Tehran time on Monday, February 14. I will be posting any news I hear about it here. I would like to invite you all to join me in posting news and information about the developments here, too. In the absence of objective formal reporting out of Iran, the ordinary people of Iran use their limited means to get their voices out of Iran. Let us all help to get their voices out. We are the media.

Shifteh Ansari

Divaneh jan: Yes, I realized that now. I've been posting on 4 different blogs continously. I made the correction on the major one but I forgot the IC. Sorry. My apologies.

Oh, I Forgot!

by G. Rahmanian on

Since all the folks in the video are from northern Tehran they should all be wearing their designer clothes on cold winter days! Have we ever seen Iranians who went without a jacket, years after years? And, as we all know, the most modern heating systems have been installed in the homes of the "mostaz'afin" since Ahmadinejad became president, so they can keep really warm. He is trying to fulfill all the promises Khomeini made to the poor folks some three decades ago. Soon he'll be pushing the "Zionist Entity" to her pre-'67 borders, too. Oops! Sorry, pre-'47!

G. Rahmanian

Gotcha!

by G. Rahmanian on

I keep asking very, very, very young girls who wear tiny summery skirts and a T-shirt under very, very, very light summery jackets if they are not cold. They just look at me and say nothing. I guess younger folks don't feel the cold as much as the old folks do!

A big thanks to Shifteh and all others who kept us aware of the latest developments in this blog.

Vildemose Jaan,

I think one of the latest videos that you have posted is from the post election demonstration, with a voice over. I also doubt that the security forces would film their crimes and make it available to the public.

This video which was offered in a comment shows people in T-shirts. Is our beloved homeland already as hot as our hearts and heads?

  A new piece of

by vildemose on

A new piece of information about the Iranian regime’s raping of the prisoners in prison…turns out that while raping the young men and women they photographed them and delivered the photos and video footage to their parents and families. How lucky the Egyptians were who never had to put up with ONE day of such treatment. No wonder their government came down so easily.

Shiraz, Kermanshah and Mash’had have erupted and thousands are out on the street fighting the regime forces.

Thank you

by Shifteh Ansari on

Thank you, the good people of Iranian.com for contributing to this blog through reading, commenting, and sharing. I am aware that there are other places on the internet where such information is being compiled during critical days, some even better and more comprehensively than ours.  On Facebook, for example, there are pages dedicated to events such as this.  But that is Facebook, it is not Iranian.com.  I believe as a community of caring, intelligent, and knowledgeable citizens, regardless of our differences of opinion, we are entitled to having our own news collection.  Maybe, on a day like this, when people are naturally attracted to a website that is called Iranian.com, it would be a good thing if they can find news about Iran right here.

Thank you all for helping to get the voices and the information out of Iran. I hope soon there comes a day when Iranians have their deserved freedom, too.
