by yolanda on Sun Feb 07, 2010 09:23 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
Thank you for the reference. In the Kamancheh page, there is a link called "Encyclopedia of Persian Instruments"......I browsed thru all the Persian instruments and saw an instrument called "Persian zither"...actually there is a Chinese zither, too! :O)

by yolanda on Sun Feb 07, 2010 06:34 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
I have a backlog of blogs to stop by....I need to check your other blogs shortly.....You posted several Shajarian videos lately. I noticed that in all the videos I saw this traditional Persian instrument.....unfortunately I don't know the name, but I see the similar Chinese instrument.....in this video a Chinese lady was playing Chinese Tajik music using Erhu.....this instrument, Erhu, looks very similar to one of the Persian instruments played in Shajarian's band,

Tashkurgan (music video title) is a Tajik town in China. It was once ruled by Persians a long time ago and there is a ruined Zoroastrian temple in Tashkurgan according to Wikipedia:

What a small world!
Thank You Yolanda :)
by R2-D2 on Sun Feb 07, 2010 05:42 PM PSTI really enjoyed the beautiful playing of the Santour by the Chinese Lady :)
I know from your past comments that you are a fan of stuff Mystical, and Sufi :) The last blog that I did, on the Mastan Ensemble, focuses on that :)
Check it out to see if you like it :)
P.S. There are two (2) songs there: Tobeh ha ra beshkanid which means Break down all repentances; and, Ma ra ke be joz tobeh shekastan honari nist which means that We have no other talent but to break down all repentances !!

by yolanda on Sun Feb 07, 2010 05:10 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
I saved the video 'cause Shajarian's singing is great & the beginning instrumental part is very pretty also...they were in great harmony....it is nice to see different shapes of Persian instruments.....actually Chinese play santur also, it is pretty much the same principal of using a pair of hammers.....but the instruments have different shapes and design.....A Chinese lady was playing Chinese santur in Tehran in the video:

There are way more Iranians in US than Germany....if he comes here, he will get a bigger crowd!
thanks for shaing!
