for bringing this to our attention and thanks ebi for the link. Although I signed the petition I remain skeptical about effectiveness of these petitions.

It would probably be more effective pleading with those on this site or anywhere else that may have connections to the authorities in IRI and that may have some shred of decency left in them to use their influnce to save this young man's life.

I signed the petition, forwarded it to many email/facebook contacts and asked them to pass it along too.

There was very few signatures there. It always helps to spread the word and ask for people's participation.

a fake name, this means you are -like me- 2 times removed from the reality of being recognized who you are... then you are making empty shoars from 5000 of miles away: Why doesn't Shirin Ebadi do this or that?!

Do you want her to be killed or mutilated or jailed by the regime while you are hiding yourself 5000 of miles away and shouting empty slogans?!

Why not practising enough so that you finally learn how to make a damn good gormeh sabzi for tomorrow's lunch so that your husband doesn't get upset like an hour ago when he stood up and left the table angrily... just because again and again the rice was not well made and the goosht was not enough cooked and the sabzi was the wrong sabzi...

Mrs Ebadi has done whatever she could and she has been in much trouble along -with all her family- for the last 20 years and they have lived in depression and worries because of her heroic deeds for the last 20 years...

So don't worry about her and concentrate rather on improving a bit your cooking styles... If you want ot keep that old hard-working ever-hungry husband alive!

Here's what I really don't

Here's what I really don't understand. And maybe I'm just not informed well. I was under the impression that we, Iranians, actually have a nobel prize winner among us. Isn't shirin ebadi somewhat world famous? Isn't she a lawyer?

Why isn't she standing up, publicly, internationally, with full force, against child executions, stonnings and this type of political prisoner treatment? I mean, one would think that is she raises enough of a stink, since she has a platform and people know here, she would be able to make some changes.

Maybe IRI wants to jail dissidents. Fine. But can't they at least get some sort of humane treatement under the law as they serve their sentences? Why can't this guy have a lawyer? Even if he can't, why can't his family hire a lawyer and demand better treatement? Why isn't Shirin Ebadi representing these people?
