Sepideh Raissadat fans would be happy to know that she has started her US tour. After performing in New York City this past Saturday night, she and tar virtuoso Iman Vaziri will be performing in Washington DC this coming Friday night. She will then have performances in Los Angeles on June 26 and in San Francisco on July 3.  See samples of Sepideh's music here, here, and here.  Also see this recent Sakkou program interview with her, part 1, and part 2.

Read about Sepideh Raissadat from here:

"Gifted vocalist and setarist Sepideh Raissadat brings to life a repertoire of poetry-filled Persian classical music during her Freight debut. Tehran-born Sepideh has always been free to pursue her love of music, but as a woman living in Iran, was prohibited from sharing it with others. In 1999, Raissadat became the first female singer in Iran after the revolution to sing in a duet when she performed with the late Persian Santoor master and composer, Parviz Meshtakian."

"Sepideh began studying Radif (the repertoire of the Persian classical music) at the age of 9 with Parissa, one of Iran's most esteemed female classical musicians, and continued with Parviz Meshkatian and Mohammad Reza Lotfi. Sepideh was only eighteen when she released her first album with Parviz Meshtakian. Most recently, Sepideh joined the Ensemble Moshtaq's European concert tour in support of their 2010 album 14 Cheerful Pieces. An academic as well as a performer, Sepidah graduated with a degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Bologna, Italy and continues her research in Canada, most recently focusing on Sassanid music from Persian music's golden age. While in Italy, she performed for the Vatican, on Italian TV and with well known Italian musicians Franco Battiato and Andrea Parodi."

About Iman Vaziri from here:

"Iman Vaziri (1970) is an Iranian composer and tar solist. He studied music and musicology at the Universities of Tehran and Cologne, Germany. From the age of 13, he dedicated himself to studying the tar and classical Persian music. He has been giving solo recitals throughout Europe. He works with master vocalist Parissa on stage as well as in the studio. His CD was released recently. As a composer, he is also firmly acquainted with the western musical tradition, his opus includes chamber music for different instrumentation and film music. Iman Vaziri's works have been published in Iran and abroad."
