My family, frankly, they weren't folks who went to church every week. My mother was one of the most spiritual people I knew but she didn't raise me in the church, so I came to my Christian faith later in life and it was because the precepts of
Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead: Barack Obama
God paints the clouds
A bright golden hue,
The earth lush and green
The sky softer blue,
But His most precious color
Is the deep crimson red,
That flowed from Christ's side
His feet, hands and head: Mark Tinjum
I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ: Gandhi
Only Jesus can make a sad heart glad
the only one who can give the best joy you ever had
He fills the hungry heart to satisfied and full
the only one who can redeem the sinful soul
Only Jesus can wash our sins away
the only one who can turn the night into day
He will always say I forgive you
the only one who can change a heart to make it new
Only Jesus can comfort you when you need a friend
the only one who stays with you to the end
He is always on duty caring for his sheep
the only one who loves so tenderly and deep
Only Jesus can heal a broken heart
the only one who shares our sorrows and takes a part
He is the savior who knows our deepest woes
the only one who gives victory over all our foes
Only Jesus can dry away our tears
the only one who calms all our fears
He is always there to strengthen in times of need
the only one to follow as he does guide and lead
Only Jesus can see the lonesome heart and void
the only one who can fill it to overjoyed
He is always there to hear our pleadings and request
the only one who gives perfect peace and rest: Cindy Wyatt
Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness: Mother Teresa
This I believe will be a person's finest hour
In yieling to Jesus, feeling his saving power
Sensing security that hadn't been there before,
Then not understanding why, but expecting more.
Now the growth, little by little, step by step,
Learning why Jesus had come and why He had wept.
For He's the way to heaven and there's no other,
That all of the saved become sister and brother... : Poet Unknown

How Rumi was tranformed by Ghalandar Shams Tabrizi
by Ali A Parsa on Tue Dec 27, 2011 08:11 PM PSTRumi and Ghalandar Shams Tabrizi
Many of us overlook the significance of the event as described by Edward G. Brown and R. A. Nickolson (google) the well known British writers of Rumi's Masnavi during 19th Century. C.E.
When Rumi's father decided to migrate from Balkh in Iran that is in Afghanistan today he did not make an issue of it. Rumi was only five at the time. He left Iran with the intention of making a pilgrimage to Mecca and from there he took his family to Turkey and and settled in Konia. Rumi was there until he died at the age of 68. Rumi and the people who left their country for their own safety can be considered as diaspora. It is noteworthy that the displacement of the people to escape dictatorships and insecurity continues at even larger scales.
What triggered Rumi to compose Shams Tabrizi that contains upward of 6000 verses was accidental meeting of Shams who was described as a Ghalandar. The word was used to describe a mystic selfless man who would prefer simple life similar to Henry David Thoreau(1817- 1865) and similar ones.
Finally what stands out in Rumi's attitude is his high degree of self restrain and tolerance while away from his homeland that is reflected in his eternally meaningful and inspiring verses like Beshno az nay chon hekayat miknonad, vaz jodaiiha shekayat mikonad.....
Obviously further explanation than this is beyond the scope of this brief writing that was intended to be calling the attention of the readers to volumes of literature on the subject.

What Christmas evokes
by maghshoosh on Sun Dec 25, 2011 09:31 PM PSTThe chain of responses below contrasts varying attitudes and feelings that Christianity has evoked throughout the ages. From the poetic and mystic portrayals of classical Persian poets to the crass and bigotted strands of Medieval Christianity that the first commenter contributed to balance the discussion (in his own special way).
Though it relates to religion in general, it may not be inappropriate to recall that the oft-quoted reference to religion as "opium of the people" by Karl Marx, is immediately preceded in the same text by his less-quoted statement that, "religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions." I suspect that the Jesus of the Gospels would have concurred with that view.

Spring is Christ
---by Rumi
Everyone has eaten and fallen asleep.
The house is empty.
We walk out to the garden to let the apple
meet the peach, to carry messages
between rose and jasmine.
Spring is Christ,
raising martyred plants from their shrouds.
A leaf trembles. I tremble
in the wind-beauty like silk from Turkestan.
The censer fans into flame.
This wind is the Holy Spirit.
The trees are Mary.
Watch how husband and wife play subtle games
with their hands. Strings of cloudy pearls
are thrown across the lovers,
as is the marriage custom.
We talk about this and that. There is no rest
except on these branching moments.

Traditional Christmas Carols List
by All-Iranians on Sun Dec 25, 2011 12:52 PM PSTChristmas Carols can be dated as far back as the 13th century. The word "carol" actually means a verse song with a refrain. Traditionally Christmas Carols were sung during an act of worship at Christmas, this originated in western Europe and then spread to other Christian countries such as the US. Some of the first Christmas carols were actually based on old pagan songs that were updated to contain the Christmas message, "The Boar's Head Carol" which dates to 1521 and was originally sung as the boar's head was brought into the dining area on Christmas Day, the boars head was the traditional Christmas dinner in a time before turkey came to the fore. But most people associate Christmas carols with songs that carry the message of Jesus' birth, such as Away in a Manger, Silent Night, etc. The List: //www.christmas-songs.org/traditional-christmas-carols.html

All-IraniansSat Dec 24, 2011 08:01 AM PST
By Mowlana Rumi
