I am just a college teacher in Orlando. For visa they need an attorney, if they have some documents that they can send me, I can try. I gave my address and my telephone. I have place for all of them and work also for all of... them. But visa is not in my hand. I can give my address and telephone the American Embassy in Athen, or they can ask me if I have place for them. But before that I should have a copy of their paper. In my farm they can work, from chicken growinng to fish production, and agricultural activities. You know the America is not paradise, it has possibilities to work and to study. I can help in those. I was in the same position in the time I cam to USA. I was university teacher in Tehran and because my mother was Bahai I have been sent out. What ever I can do I will do for them. The UN Refugee Agency, Greece is present and active on Facebook. Please go to UNHCR and become a member by clicking on "Like" to get access to UNHCR’s wall. Once there, you can write messages in support of Iranian political refugees and protest how they are being treated by the Greek government. Please write in English not Farsi.

This is going to be a long fight and will not be won over night. Please stay focused and stay strong. We shall prevail…

از یونان چه خبر؟

حمید صادقی پناهجوی ۳۵ ساله ایرانی که از سال ۲۰۰۵ در یونان به سر میبرد با آمبولانس به بیمارستان منتقل شده و پس از به هوش آمدن دوباره به محل اعتصاب خود بر گشته است .

وحید فرش باف ۴۶ ساله که از سال ۲۰۰۲ منتظر پاسخ دولت یونان به تقاضای پناهندگی سیاسی است، به اعتصاب غذای خود ادامه میدهد و "حالش به هیچ وجه خوب نیست."

دوستان عزیز، تا آنجایی که من میدانم، برنامه ای برای اعتراض و گردهمایی در آمریکا وجود ندارد.

آخرین خبری که از یونان شنیدم حکایت از این دارد که دانشجویان یونانی حمایت خود را از پناهندگان سیاسی اعلام کرده اند و چند روز دیگر اعتصاب فراگیر تر شده و گردهمایی در مقابل دانشگاه آتن با برپا کردن چادرهای تازه ای گسترش خواهد یافت.

Not sure how closely you work with these refugees. But one way to help these hmavatans would be to compile resumes and keep them in a data base accessable by other Iranian professionals in US and Europe. As somebody mentioned earlier, in US at least, with a minimum of MS degree in engineering/science, some of these hamvatans can be sponsored for work visa (H1B), leading to permananet residency.

What can we do for our countrymen?

Two young Iranian refugees in Athens are ready to die so that the world will take notice of the plight of our countrymen in Greece. One of them has sewed his lips and can’t talk. Please carry his voice to the four corners of the world. I extend an appeal to you on his behalf:

Please use whatever means at your disposal to let the media know. Spread the news so that more pressure is placed on the Greek government, politicians, and law makers who have been ignoring the plight of our countrymen in Greece.

The international organizations defending human rights must get involved in order to increase pressure on the Greek government. The United Nations must step in to protect Iranian political refugees in Greece.

Iranian businessmen and lawyers in US, Canada, and European countries must help to rescue some of the refugees from the hell called Greece. Even if we can rescue one family, we have made a difference. Iranian refugees in Greece need immigration or work visas to leave that country.

برای هموطنانمان چه میتوانیم بکنیم؟

دوستان عزیز، جان دو تن از هموطنان ما در آتن در خطر است و این دو جوان ایرانی حاضرند بمیرند تا دنیا متوجه وضعیت وخیم پناهندگان ایرانی در یونان شود. از هرگونه امکاناتی که در دستتان است استفاده نمائید:

توجه رسانه های خبری دنیا را به اعتصاب غذا آنان جلب کنید: تلویزیونها، رادیوها، روزنامه ها و مجله ها. هر چه بیشتر این خبر پخش شود، فشار بیشتری بر دولت یونان وارد میشود چنانکه نادیده گرفتن پناهندگان ایرانی دیگر برای دولت یونان امکان نداشته باشد.

توجه سازمانهای بین المللی دفاع از حقوق بشر را جلب کنید و از آنان تقاضای دخالت نمائید تا فشار بر دولت یونان وارد کنند.

بلاتکلیفی وضعیت پناهندگان سیاسی ایرانی در یونان چنان است که آنان راه فراری ندارند. از وکیل های ایرانی مقیم آمریکا و کانادا تقاضای کمک کنید تا بتوانیم برای برخی از آنان ویزای مهاجرت بگیرئیم.

توجه سازمان ملل را به اوضاع وخیم پناهندگان ایرانی در یونان جلب کنید و پافشاری نمائید تا سازمان ملل بر دولت یونان فشار وارد کند.

چند لحظه قبل، یکی از پناهندگان که با همسرش و سه پسر کوچکش در یونان بیش از چهار سال دربدر بوده اند با من تماس گرفت. اوضاع چنان وخیم است که پناهندگان به هر کور سوی ناچیزی چنگ میاندازند.

از تمامی اعضای ایرانیان دات کام تقاضا میکنم که از هموطنان آواره در یونان حمایت کنید و اگر کاری از دستتان برمیاید دریغ نکنید.

ایرانیان مقیم آمریکا که به رسانه های خبری دسترسی دارند، خبر رسانی کنید. هم چنین اوضاع وخیم پناهندگان سیاسی را به گوش حقوق دانان و وکیل های ایرانی مقیم آمریکا برسانید.

Entry of refugees into the EU

Iranian refugees in Greece have been in a state of limbo for decades. Since the Greek government doesn't grant them asylum, they can’t even attend college. One of the requirements to enroll in a university is to have a valid passport. None of these refugees have any form of identification, not even a birth certificate.

Many of the refugees have attempted to escape the miserable conditions in Greece and have sought asylum in other countries in Europe. Each and every time that a refugee succeeds to enter another country, he is fingerprinted to determine whether he has previously sought asylum elsewhere in the EU. Consequently, refugees are returned to Greece immediately according to the EU Legislations.

S.Ghiassi - H1B visa for refugees w/ agriculture/Vet background?

Dear Mr. Ghiassi,

Please talk w/an immigration lawyer to see if H1B visa is possible for these Iranian refugees.  Then, if H1B visa is possible, get in touch with the UN high commission for refugees to see which refugees are eligible for agricultural/vet H1B visas.   You may be able to write sponsorship for individual H1B visas, in return for work w/room and board for the qualified Iranian refugees, depending on the especialties you offer on your farm. 

I think you may also get in touch with Iranian American Lawyers Association - (IALA) to help you formulate your offer with their pro-bono committee (//www.ialawyers.org/community-services.php#Pro).  They usually get involved in a few issues in their spare time.  I appreciate any comments from Iranian-American lawyers especialyzing in immigration issues? 

If things work out, several well-advertized articles in, e.g., Iranian refugee site in Turkey (//www.bipanah.com/) or other human rights oriented sites (Boroumand foundation, ......) will be able to get some refugees out of their dilemma.  Other Iranian-American business owners may also be eligible to offer similar H1B visas, and since most Iranian refugees are from an educated class, we should be able to connect a few dots here.
