Vafa to Vafa

Vafa to Vafa

Dear Ones:

I hope this finds you well.

I'm sure some of you have received this email from me in the past.  And some may be new to my 'personal' friend's list who I approach to get help with "MY" Vafa Shelter sponsorship/fundraising effort for month of January.

I have pledged to Vafa Shelter that I will raise minimum of $1000 on January of each year. Back a couple of years ago $1000 went a long way--but I'm afraid due to economic problems and value of dollar back home, $1000 is 'nothing'...

SO, I reach out to all my friends and those who have either adopted a vafa dog, or have continuously supported me as I help the shelter in every way I can...to help me beat my goal for the upcoming year.

IF you are able to help an organization this year, please consider helping Vafa Shelter.

Please send your kind help payable to:

Farah Ravon
5483 Copeland Lane
San Jose, CA 95124.

...I thank you in advance for reading this and for your help.

With LOVE and Gratitude,

Faranak (aka Farah) Ravon

And if any one is up for an adoption....

by Bavafa on

Here is a great opportunity to adopt one from Vafa, here in US/CA.

Yasha, a German Shepherd pup who came from Vafa in Iran is up for adoption.  I personally would have really liked to jump at this opportunity but we four kids adopted so far, we are at our limits for the time being.

If not, perhaps a donation to this group would go to a good cause.  My wife and I have gladly donated to our favorite charity what would have otherwise gone to some Dept. store for a piece of junk that we may or may not ever use.

Now we are even mixing up abortion rights with the Pet business?! Look, it is obvious you have a certain point of view, which is fine. But what comes across strongly with your remarks is "we have to ... we should ...". Some people will always love animals (not just small puppies nad dogs as you put it) and want pets as companions, noone can stop this human feeling, even basij beating owners in the street. Noone should stop peoples rights to own and care for animals, which is very beneficial to both Humans and the pet. What should change is Peoples ATTITUDES, not stopping peoples rights to feel a connection with animals and to seek their companionship, and to be compassionate to those in need.

With regards to tradition ad culture, for example in Spain bull fighting is a tradition but slowly that will go as well. Things change, and we can help that along by supporting brave people who are trying to move things along. There is a long way to go as Iran is poor with Human Rights let alone Animal Rights, but the solution is NOT to eradicate dogs, or to ban ownershp. Iran does not have to be stuck in the Middle Ages for ever.

With regards to comments, one can pick and chose sensible comments in order to be inspired. I support this lady and Vafa Shelter. I am sorry but am at work so have to write a quick comment, but hope we can just agree to disagree here and move on.

Rights of a dog in Iran.

by comments on

It’s legal to purchase or adopt many dogs; even more than number of socks that we purchase and through in a garbage.  But, it’s not right.  Advanced countries do not have enough funding (or legal priorities) to process the adaptation or shameful purchasing of animals as they do for human infants and children.  This is not an advanced view towards animal rights, which should be in parallel with human rights.

We should selectively pick attributes from advanced countries, and apply in other countries including Iran.  But, before we even speak about animal rights in Iran we have to possess a great extent of awareness for the origin of pet dogs in advanced countries which goes back to the time that they were so unfortunates.

Should we even promote dog business and more torture chambers in Iran?  Does it make sense? (a) We try to promote abortion rights in Iran.  (b) At the same time, do want to breed dogs and also torture dogs at Iranian homes?  If we feel even slightly compationate towards small puppies and dogs, we have to stop dog businesses in Iran.

p.s. A comment is beneficial as long as a comment initiates a sparkle in a reader’s mind.  Then, it’s the responsibility or willingness of a reader to analyze the comment.  For example, photos from Chile taught me to open my mind when I hear about Chile again. Or, I will look over related books when I am in a public library or amazon.com.

I follow Vafa Shelter blogs, not your comments so do not feel concerned about that. To be honest I thought with your "crap" comment you were a typical troll that likes to throw a hand grenade in a blog to evoke reaction. With blogs which are concerned with Life, I think is not good behaviour.  You say you were being honest, then allow others too.

I did not know you celebrate Christmas, and am glad because it is a time for compassion. My family taught me that having sympathy for the suffering of others, and caring enough to want to help them is a quality we should all strive for. Not just at Christmas , but all the time. I passed on your sincere best wishes to my family and my mother in particular would like to send you this for Christmas.

Merry Christmas to Truthseeker9

by comments on

I am glad that you read and follow my comments all the times.  You are still welcome to comment on my comments.  That would be nice to use your valuable time in a more positive way by participating, criticizing and opposing opinions in a more expressive way.  That would also be a good idea to review your own comments including unlimited usage of shame, arrogant and rude.

I know typical comments like you expecting a response in the same manner.  I am sorry that I am not able to satisfy your needs.  I haven’t brought up in unhealthy family, and I am not willing to ask IC readers not to express themselves.  However, I have learned that I have to feel more worthy and motivated when I meet people who are a bit off.

I will distance myself from your comments to make IC a bit more comfortable for you.  If I ignore your comments after now, it will be because I care about you.  I will be more considerate about my comments because of the presence of sensitive receivers like you.  Christmas is a stressful time for many believers.  We have a Christmas tree, and we enjoy all holidays.  We welcome Santa to our place, but our door has been always closed to preachers.  Very happy new year to all, and Merry Christmas to Truthseeker9.

Please watch the below video.  We have to learn to be less cynical about others.

And this from someone who makes a comment headed "

Dog shelter is a crap". You know Mr/Ms Comments, it is not my job or others to educate you about concept of compassion and animal welfare. You are not forced by this lady or others to contribute to this cause but it is you who come to antagonise and oppose a good cause. You have every right to not agree with it but you are rude and think by listing some disjointed comments you make sense. Who are you talking about when you say "We"? Who are you to say what dogs or animals should be to Iranians? You do not even understand the concept of toilet training and responsibility and quote your friends as examples of dog people. The way you say dogs historically are guard dogs in Iran ... so nothing can change? Well they stone people in Iran but it does not mean it has to continue.

You do not know what I do day to day, I chose not to waste it on the likes of negative people like you and only respond when I have the time. The link I provided gives a completely appropriate response to the likes of you. Rude and arrogant, telling people what should be done and what dogs should be to people. Well do not contribute, but there is no need to be rude to this dignified lady.

As for being productve, you come to ruin a blog about someone who IS being productve against all odds in a country like Iran, with attitudes like yours. She does not just moan on the internet but is politely making a request to those interested.

You quote "It's not about what we believe. It's more about how we behave and influence." at the bottom of your comments and then come out with a rude one with crap at the top. Shame on you.

My today's share.

Today I Googled "Humor in Dog Ignorance" and found a link.  I just wanted to respond whatever to a comment that I did not read.  The subject sounded humerous, which was about ignorance indeed.

I want to participate in whatever and keep opposing others.

That's all I could do today.  Being productive.

The link should have used "I am not comfortable with other opinions" rather than "ignorance".

1) Animal business is not entirely an ethical business.  For example, if we support breeders, then we have to support pet shop businesses and so on.  City Hall workers have to be trained, spend more time and our tax money to clean up the streets better.

2) Animals have pain for sure.  The question is how much an animal's life is important and how long an animal has to tolerate a pain.  For example, how much should we spend on treatment of a dog with cancer?

3) Cost of a puppy:

(a) $120 for each vet visit. (b) $600 for neutering. (c) almost all dogs need several surgeries depending on their physical structures depending on the breed. For example, eye surgery for Bulldog because of its pushed-in nose. (d) a dog is not a toy.  It needs responsibility: walking 3 times a day including waking up early and spending lots of time with the dog.  Then, think of blind dogs that someone like me might have.

1) We have to support the relations of all organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.  Animals, plants, fungi and bacteria make our ecology a healthy environment for us allowing us to live.  The question is to what extent we should enforce a group identity.  For example, saying bacteria are more important than fungi.

5) Conclusions: It's a baby talk if you are too warm-hearted towards unfortunate creatures.  It's like saying Elahi fadaye saga besham ke kheili nazan.

Dog shelter is a crap.

by comments on

I am sorry for being such a frank person today. Your shelter reminded me several Iranians in "Iran" who told me: "I feed my dog a lot because I liked him a lot.  Then, he pooped all over the place and we had to return it to the breeder.  We paid a lot to the breeder to toilet train him.  We had the same problem again and returned to the breeder in free".

I am so relieved that dogs are not allowed in Iran.  Iranians do not need to be crueler to live creatures.  First, the Iranian culture is for guard dogs not pets.  Next, we don't have to create a large torture chamber as a breeder business.  The breeder that I know kills 9 of 10 puppies and keeps the healthiest one to sell.  Actually, this is the best they do in Canada, which respects animal rights the most.  My solution: instead of all efforts creating dog shelters in Iran, spend the same time and energy to discourage/remove all breeders from Iran.

Thanks for your effort in this regard...

by Bavafa on

As part of our [small] annual donation and help for the Iranian kids in Iran, we have redirected a small portion of it to go to this cause.  If you are able to send $$$ there with no issue, we may reconsider to redirect it thru you.

In any case, thanks for your effort and help to bring much needed support to this shelter.
