Forget Israel and Palestine, Quds Day here we come!
by Javad Yassari

It is easy to lose heart with the massive crackdown which has taken place on Iranian people over the past couple of months.  On the surface, IRI authorities seem to be getting bolder and more ruthless in arresting people and canceling any and all public events which might give Iranians a chance to come to the streets again to protest an illegitimate government.  IRGC (Sepaah), police, and Basij commanders are giving daily interviews, threatening people and sounding smug in their new “military state” hold over Iran and Iranians.  In my humble opinion, this all is the anticipated behavior of a group of tyrants who are running scared from the people’s wrath on them, taking their last breaths before their total collapse.  Take this latest piece of news, released today:

"Iran police warn opposition before Quds Day

(AFP) TEHRAN — Iran's police chief warned the opposition on Tuesday against using an annual pro-Palestinian march to stage protests against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the official IRNA news agency reported."The Quds Day (march), which is to express support for oppressed Palestinians and condemn occupiers, should not be tainted for political purposes," Esmail Ahmadi Moghadam said."Derailing Quds Day would be added to the fraud folder for showing the true colours of those who direct this view," he said in apparent warning to leaders of the opposition, who charge that Ahmadinejad's June re-election was rigged.According to their websites, supporters of defeated candidates known as the greens plan to pour on to Tehran's streets again in the annual state-sponsored Quds Day demonstration, which will be held this year on September 18.

Opposition leader and defeated candidate Mehdi Karroubi vowed that his supporters will come out in force on the day, and Ahmadinejad's main rival Mir Hossein Mousavi has also called for continued civil disobedience."

This cracked me up!  What utter nonsense from an illiterate man!  Quds Day is quite possibly the most political annual event in Iran!  Take a look at Wikipedia’s definition of Quds Day:

"International Day of Al-Quds (Rooz-e jahaany-e Qods in Persian: روز جهانی قدس), is an annual event opposing Israel's control of Jerusalem, (Al-Quds in Arabic: القـُدْس). Anti-Zionist demonstrations are held on this day in some Muslim and Arab countries and by Muslim and Arab communities around the world, but especially in Iran where the occasion was first suggested. It is held each year on the last Friday of Ramadan. Jerusalem Day is not an Islamic religious holiday but a political event open to both Muslims and non-Muslims alike, and thus observance is not obligatory in Islam."

This idiot’s assertion that Quds Day must not be “tainted for political purposes” is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time!  Give me a break!  What about the Quds day is NOT political?  Islamic Republic of Iran has made it its sole business to protest Israel’s occupation of Quds.  Normally on this day Iranians are led in chants of “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.  This year Iranians are going to come to streets to protest not Israel’s occupation of Palestine, but occupation of Iran by the illegitimate and unwanted Islamic Republic of Iran.  Who wants to bet that people will be chanting “Death to Dictator,” and “Death to Khamenei” instead?!

Gentlemen, for 30 years you made your bed, now kindly scoot over and lie in it while people of Iranian take care of business!

What Jaleho writes is really funny and sad.  It is sad that even after all the atrocities in Iran, some people still advocate for AN.  What Jaleho is writes is also funny because when I read it, I see how a person can argue in vain and just "bebafeh".  Sister, we are not some 11 year old.  Your arguments are not worth even "Dozar".  If I were any of the people in this thread, I would not engage Jaleho.

As a matter of fact, why doesn't everybody just boycott this shameless IRI apologizer, this woman who by supporting AN is really suppporting raping and killing of Iranians. She is a traitor and don't flatter her by engaging her in debates.

You stated[Look at Zimbabwe to see where Iran is headed. The parallels are remarkably close.

Actually I believe that Iran is already a militarized state, it hasn't been officially announced yet. It started by so called privatization of main industries, which industries were basically  auctioned off to Sepah and a nominal price.

On the other hand there are the Majles members and ministers whom mostly are ex sepah commanders. Sepah has become the [money and brain] of the HOKOMATE Eslami, where baseej has become the muscle. Hokomate Ealami has a striking resemblance to an well oiled Mafia machine, where they are distorting the nation for all the money and blood.

Inflation is approx.  at 20%[17.10% for 2008, ranked 217] where unemployment is approx. at 18%[12.00% for 2008]. This is not taking into account the hidden unemployment/under employment that is so prevalent in government sector. How much more [run-a-way]could things get?
Tehran and most other metropolitan cities are among the most expensive real estates in the world. Approximately 18% of the population live under poverty line.

This number is close to 90% according to Mohammad Abbaspour PM[Majles]:

Education system is deteriorating as we speak. With exception of oil revenue, we are not competitive in any product in international market, not even Persian rugs anymore. Even the privatized industries required bail-out early in the year with the amount of $1 billion for Iran Khodro:

Dear Jaleho

by Abarmard on

I am not sure if taking certain groups out of the existing establishment is a good thing. For one thing, I would promote adding even more voices rather than taking out a few!

Here is what I read today from Fars news Agency. I believe this will give the guide line as where we are headed, and democracy is not anywhere near it :

"Jafari further stated that the IRGC is preparing infrastructures for
confronting military, hard and soft threats, adding that the IRGC
entrusted the duty for confrontation against soft threats to the Basij
(volunteer) forces."

This translated in my mind as the way to approach any kind of resistance/opposition to authority with harsh forcefulness. I did not hope that after thirty years we end up here. Do you believe that we are headed in the right direction?

Jaleho

Dear Abarmard, it is the internal contradictions

by Jaleho on

of the "Islamic Republic" which is resolving itself by advancing the revolution to its next evolutionary stage with emphasis  on "Jomhouri" rather than "Islamic" in my opinion; not the upper hand of osoulgara or moderate clerics.  Let me remind you of a clarifying debate we had in the Amir Taheri's article, where I wrote:

//iranian.com/main/news/2009/07/24/ali-and-quartet

"the evolution of "Islamic Republic" gaining a maturity so rapidly that it doesn't need the "Islamic" part much more while the orginal "Islamic leaders" are still alive! He sees clearly that the protestors had nothing agaisnt Khamenei or Ahmadinejad per se, they were attacking the institution of "veleyat faghih" which is not needed any more, the women were sick of their artificial dress codes, the youth wanted more basic freedom....they showed the era of Ammameh and the type of Karrubi or Khatami is over!

The evolution of the "Islamic Republic" has created internal contradictions, the resolution of which will propel the original revolution to its next great phase, something that Amir Taheri among Iranian "experts" can see clearly.

One point that is not empahsized at all in all theese analysis is the fact that the energy of the present protest is partly due to the specific time slice that Iran is now, having a majority under the age of 30. As opposed to many who believe this protest is just the start of whatever they are dreaming of automatically, the reality is that the present momentum will be lost by sheer aging of the population; time is against them! Hopefully, the deep internal contradictions of the realities of Iran now, can be resolved peacefully while this momentum lasts! The demand for a fundamental review ofconstitution must be set forwards..."

and the other back and forth we had there explains my opinion more, although admittedly it sounds out of reach, but I truly believe in it.

Iran is no longer Islamic nor a Republic.  It is a military state.  The gradual transition has been completed with the IRGC/Basij coup of June. Ex-Sepaah commanders have been filling the country's management positions for several years now and they are controlling it, albeit very very poorly.  The Iranian economy has become ensnared in Sepaah's grip through huge companies and they control large smuggling rings as well. Tell your friends there is nothing to celebrate here, nothing to be happy about. Iran is in very dangerous hands now.

Where is Iran headed?

If Ahmadinejad and his military junta succeed in demolishing the reform movement Iran will end up like

Look at Zimbabwe to see where Iran is headed. The parallels are remarkably close.

Where Iran has oil, Zimbabwe has Platinum, diamonds, gold, etc. Both regimes claim to be “revolutionary”. Both are incompetent. Both are well armed, while the majority of citizens is unarmed.

Both are allied to North Korea, Burma and Chavez.

So I think you can expect runaway inflation, mass unemployment, and large numbers of deaths.

Based on the blog link, you are arguing that the Islamic Republic is becoming a Republic. That's an interesting argument since a few of my friends had mentioned that. They told me that they are happy that Ahmadinejad is kicking the Mullahs out of the politics.

I can't accept that argument. I believe that many of the open minded Mullahs are giving room to more extremists and "khoshk Maz hab". Why do you believe that Iran is gradually dropping Islamic in Republic?

this time the math I liked was not 2+2=4, rather it was

24million-13 million= a whooping 11 million; even if you consider a couple of million as irregularity, which I don't.

Besides, My blog that you consdier "disastrous," was not titled "AN won BIG," it was "Iranians WON BIG!!," with a full explanation of why they won BIG. And, in every aspect I am a bit proud of that blog for being anything but a disaster, even by the most petty criteria of "success of a blog" which is the number of people who read it (over 8700) let alone the content that in my not so humble opinion not only followed a correct prediction (among so many blog dujour calling "Here come president Mousavi") but also the aftermath of the election.

If you were not clear about why I called Iranians on that monumental election the BIG winners, you should have noticed it in my other blog which was a continuation of that "disastrous" blog:

Schwarzenegger makes layoffs, orders pay cuts for California state workers
By Michael Rothfeld, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
August 01, 2008

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, expressing frustration with lawmakers’
failure to approve a state budget, ordered his administration Thursday
to lay off thousands of part-time employees and moved to temporarily
slash the pay of most full-time staff.

The governor, a Republican, apologized to state employees, many of
whom, he acknowledged, are already struggling in a difficult economy.
But he said he had no choice in the absence of a budget one month into
the fiscal year.
. . .
Schwarzenegger also limited overtime and imposed a hiring freeze. . . .
governor’s interpretation of a 2003 decision by the California Supreme
Court that Schwarzenegger says requires most employees to be paid only
the federal minimum wage during a budget impasse. And the controller
insisted that the state has enough money to pay its bills through
September.

Yes, AN had won the election but the title of your last blog was : AN won big!

No, it was not a big winning, given all the bloody outcomes of the protests and objection of our hamvatan to the rigged result!

He may really got more votes than Mousavi, but also he helped it by doing much fraud. If it was not him, but the people who wanted him to win, did  it for sure. They did also killed our young and older people, arrested them and tortured them in the prisons.

Is that what you call winning?

The mathematician you are, you see always the arithmetic face of the facts which is:  2 + 2 = 4.

It is not true in the real life, and you should know this by now, as you have been witnessing the events and drama happening in our country, like all of us did .

Thank you for your comments.  You say: "You mean that of all of the 360 days in the year, the green's could not find another day of their own to protest? You really think that you can steal the purpose of MILLIONS of Iranians who will give their usual anti-Israel slogans?"

Starting only moments after the rigged elections results were announced up until today and going on into the future, Iranians have and will use every possible opportunity to protest the elections fraud, the brutal crackdown on peaceful and unarmed protesters, and the heinous ways in which prisoners have been treated by Islamic Republic of Iran.  They may retreat and they may become quiet for short periods of time in the face of the unleashed state sponsored violence on them, but they will not be kept quiet for long.

In case you have not noticed, over the past month the Islamic Republic has cancelled and minimized any and all public gatherings which might have given people the opportunity to protest.  Quds Day may have had some meaning to people, just as other occasions may have.  None of the old rules apply to the way Iranians will behave henceforth.  They will even use 22 Bahman to come out and shout their disgruntlement with this barbaric regime, though I doubt things will take that long.

I know you find this hard to accept.  But Iranians are done with any and all items comprising IRI's agenda.  They don't care about Iran's nuclear capabilities and they don't care about Quds. Until they are heard and the fake president is no longer their representative in the world, international issues are not going to be Iranians' top priority.

They care about Iran and about Iranians killed and raped and tortured in the hands of those who rule Iran.  They will come out at every opportunity to say this.  The only way forward is to recognize people's rights and their choice, something IRI has long forgotten how to do.

You are right.  I don't get paid to says these things.  These are views I share with a few tens of millions other Iranians.
