HUMAN RIGHTS IN IRAN

Assuming that the current unrest is the start of a new struggle for Truth and Justice, as integral part of a true democracy, which road is the nation to take for a True Iranian Democracy?

Are we to follow the many imperfect examples of the western model? or one that is in affinity with our social, spiritual and cultural heritage.

What is clear is that new generation in our homeland is in touch with a new enlightened democratic spirit entirely in tune with its counterpart outside iran, a spirit whose acceptance will be as suicide for the clerical Iranian regime and its increasingly militaristic dictators.

Beyond King of The Mountain, is a new Film produced and directed by Iranians Leyla and Ryan Haidarian, which addresses the notion of democracy as a whole.

Their Introduction to the film states:

"Introduce democracy and you will solve a nation’s problems, right?If only it were that simple. “By the people for the people” soundsattractive in theory, but its current application is increasinglyperplexing analysts, politicians and ordinary citizens all over theworld. Democracy as we see it today emerged under a particular set ofcircumstances at the onset of the industrial revolution in the West.The changes that have happened to our world since have placed new andunexpected challenges on many democracies, both young and old.

But is this really the end of the road? Award-winning filmmakersLeyla and Ryan Haidarian make a case for an evolution in the democraticnotion. Beyond King of the Mountain unpacks some of the currentchallenges many democratic systems are facing and specifically proposesthat their future may lie in a win/win, non-adversarial paradigm. Thefilm questions the fact that we have come to view democracy exclusivelyas a contest and suggests that “by the people for the people” can berealized in other, more inclusive ways… "
