White America worried about "Black House"

Today my 2 lunch buddies and I opted for a Jewish sandwich instead of the usual Wednesday chelokabob at the blessed kolbeh sabz restaurant. Jerry's deli has great corn beef on rye by the way.

Next to us, to our right, were 3 older Jewish men and to our left were 2 white men and a white woman.  As usual, these polite Americans were talking so softly, you could hear them clear in San Francisco.

Discussion at both tables was about the presidential elections and Obama/MaCain as well as the crisis on wall street.  What can I say, in a Jewish deli hearing discussion of $ is inevitable.  SOME OF YOU WILL READ UP TO HERE AND START WRITING YOUR REPLY ABOUT MY PREJUDICIAL STATEMENT RIGHT ABOUT NOW. I love Jews.  Stop it.

As I was eves dropping by force, I overheard one of the white (non Jewish) men say the following: "for God sake, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is called the White House not the Black House.  Can you imagine a whole bunch of black people having BBQ on the front lawn?  I don't like McCain but there is no way in hell I can accept a black president.  You know what I mean?  If I was trading a basketball player then I don't have an issue with black, but president?!  Give me a fucking break".

Then the woman said the following: "I know, I know, and worse than him is his wife.  I can't stand her fake smile. What is this country turning into?"

Being the idiot that I am, I had to say something.  I told them who died and made the white man the "owner" of the U.S.  This is when all hell broke loose.  One of the older Jewish men chimed in.  Then another guy, then 5 people started talking at once.  I caused havoc.  Why can't I keep my mouth shut.

During all this, one of the guys said this is the white U.S. and if I didn't like it, I can go back to where I came from.  I asked him if he was throwing in free tickets and got a chuckle from our Mexican waitress.

As I was driving back to my office, despite all the hoopla I have seen around Obama and all the young white supporters in his rallies, I just really don't see white America voting for a black president.

All the talk about experience is bull shit.  Its all about race.  In my opinion, blacks will not be accepted as equal for the next couple of generations. White America is not free of racial prejudice yet; not by a long shot.

IRANdokht aziz,   I

IRANdokht aziz,

I wish that we can take objective looks at matters. Bush is a president, and the president in this country, has limited powers. The war in Iraq, which is considered the administration’s most controversial issue, had nothing to do with any specific ethnic groups in America, so hows that gonna justify the “white America doesn’t want a black president” issue? Those are totally different issues. IRANdokht aziz, I read your posting and I consider you an open minded Iranian, so, please I sincerely hope you don’t get consumed by the irrational anti Bush rethoric the very few Iranians spit out on this website. These people, specially the young ones, are ideologically driven, brainwashed and take emotional and non political approach to understand politics.

Lets take a realistic approach and see how many things that went wrong in this administration were Bush’s fault, how many congress, how many intelligence failure, how many bureaucratic failures, and lets examine how much Bush could’ve done to prevent them. I myself, am a big Bush criticizer and never voted for him, but I take realistic approaches. I place blame on him when its appropriate.

The reason that McCain got picked is that Americans are sick and tired of the right wing rhetoric by the Republican Party. So they decided to pick one of the most moderate ones. Americans are mature enough as people, to understand where to draw a line between taking conservatism too far to the right, or liberalism too far to the left. That’s what kept their democracy, relatively, untouched for 200 something years. That’s why they picked the two that are more in the middle. The Brownbacks and the Huckabees, and the Kucinichs and the Howard Deans will not get the majority approval by the American people. Bush himself, if anything, played to the ultra right tone to get the base vote, nothing more nothing less. Even if he was “ultra right”, like I said, the president in America has limited powers. He might claim that he is “anti gay marriage”, but the reality is, that during his presidency, two states have legislated marriage or union rights and more are to follow. He was powerless, or indifferent if you ask me, to stop them.

All that being said, this piece is a clear ideologically driven piece written without any regard to any fact or common sense to bash the United States. The only people these guys are fooling are themselves. We are committed to expose and call out any of the members of the tiny minority of Iranians who bash (not criticize cause there is a fine line) the great people of the United States and Iran.

who is  a Black American.  I wonder how many Iranian parents would welcome a Black American or an American of any kind...so readily.

I don't think it's racist to have concerns about Chicago political influences on Senator Obama.  He seems to be a politician after all and I"m disappointed that he has changed.

Bummer...Who knew that the change would be in my Senator himself.?

Dear Mr Kashani

by IRANdokht on

It seems like the message was lost amongst all the noise. The majority of Americans are very nice people. And obviously not all of the white Americans are going to be against a Black President.

But after having seen what Bush/cheney have done and the fact that McCain is promising to follow Bush's agenda, Obama's race is the only reason he's not about 30-40 points ahead in the polls.

Obama being black and having a strange sounding name is the reason someone like McCain is even in the picture. When someone as unqualified and controversial as Palin is becoming an instant success, and you compare that to the nasty campaigning they had done against this better educated and more intelligent and much more qualified man, you do notice it's all about the race.

If Obama's daughter was 16 and pregnant, he would have been in hiding like GWB is now, completely out of the GOP election scenes because he's an embarrassment. Palin's daughter being knocked up was practically celebrated by the GOP!

Lets call it what it is and not try to fool ourselves or others.

Thank you

Some of these Iranians

by Farhad Kashani on

Some of these Iranians apparently live in a different planet. Maybe they missed the part that Obama won majority-white states by a big margin! Yeah "white America" is "very worried" about a blak president, thats why when they got worried, they went out and voted for one!!!!!!!! How much brainwashed can you be to not even look at undeniable facts!?

Denial

by Mensa (not verified) on

First and foremost if you want to prove a point go ahead and state it as a jest or a fictional account or whatever, but please do not wrap it in your self full-filled prophecy of how whites and Jews believe and then pretend that it really happened....we both now that you would not have the balls to confront anyone in that situation...it is called social norm....however, if you truly did then it does not show your bravery, but rather that you suffer from some syndrome that manifests you to intervene in matters that do not concern you.

As in regards to prejudice....lets set aside our political correctness, which we Iranians love to adhere to....say one thing and mean another thing..taarof. If you truly take the black population in this country and I grant you there are many justifications for their current state, however, it is as we know it not to be the healthiest society. If you disagree with this point then I can send you data on level of poverty, drug abuse, lack of education, crime and imprisonment and so and so on....

But the bigger issue at hand is that this individual, B. Obama is not qualified in the least bit. He is a preacher man or as we know it as a mullah....look at what happened the last time we bought into someone who had a good talk...30 years of devolution. So go ahead and save your bankrupt liberal ideology that is instilled in hatred, class warfare and jealousy or as we say in Farsi "oggdeh" and do not vote out of anger, but more out of reason.

you do assume too much my friend! it's common to think everybody thinks like us, but at some point in life, we should learn that in reality we're all different and have different values.

I don't share your racist views and you shouldn't make any assumptions about me or anyone else you don't know.

by Faramarz_Fateh on

I can't ask you not to judge so fast because I do that all the time. But for your information, twice a month or so, my 2 sons and I go to a BBQ place in Inglewood to eat soul food.  BBQ pulled pork for me and ribs for my sons.  99% of the customers in this restaurant are black; its located in an atleast 80% black inhibited neighborhood. The restaurant is owned by a black family.  We could have ribs at Tony Roma's but we prefer the friendly atomosphere of this place.

The owner and his wife know me by name. I have been going there since 1991.  If you live in S. Calif (LA area), I extend and invite to you to go with us.  I am definitely not afraid of blacks or black neighborhoods. On the contrary, I celebrate their culture. I invite you to do the same.

I really don't believe this at all.

How convenient for you.....

I doubt that people would speak in public like this. Yeah..at home...maybe...but there is no way that they would do this in a public setting.

This just fits perfectly with the agenda, doesn't it....

Qualification of a Black Persident

by Black House galore (not verified) on

First and foremost, Obama is not the most qualified black person for presidency.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of other qualified blacks in the US who can be our leader.

Obama is a political preacher and not a leader. He leads by his speech and delivery. I, for one, will not fall for that. I'm a speaker and a damn good one and I can see my own kind when I see it. I shun my own kind because of the abuse of power and haughtiness.

There are far more educated, trained, selfless blacks in this country who are eligible to be our president.

Alas, we the American people are duped by the preacher/congregation society structure. We must, sooner or later break this cycle.

It is time to break from this cycle of not being racially divided, but to be free of priestly politics.

Kudos to those blacks in this country that make Obama look like an messenger boy in the cast of this nation's scientific, academic, and religious categories.

We need a black president who's mind and actions makes his race transparent. But it is not mr. preacher Obama in this case.

It is another person that awaits in the wings to emerge forward as the first black president of the US.

I for one will vote for another black person, but not Obama. He needs to retrieve back to his senate seat to avoid serious dialogue with the more dignified and respected blacks in this nation, who have no self-interest in affairs, and are valued by their pears and colleagues alike.

Don't be a hypocrite, there is racism in all of us, even the Ms perfect Irandokht. I  bet you would never live in a black neighborhood. As a matter of fact, I bet neither you nor Irandokht would ever drive through black neighborhood. You would take the long way before driving through it. It is not about being black, it is about bad policies. Most black politicians are extremely liberal, and that is bad for America. Just check out the city of Oakland, or other areas run by blacks. It is full of crime, there is huge flight, old days used to be white flight, these days, it is the white collar flight, even black folks are flying out of those neighborhoods.

IRANdokht

it's all about race

by IRANdokht on

here's an excert of an email I received with a series of examples on "white privilege" written by Tim Wise on Zspace page:

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because "every family has challenges," even as black and Latino families with similar "challenges" are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

The list goes on ending with:

And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren't sure about that whole "change" thing. Ya know, it's just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain.

White privilege is, in short, the problem.
