This past weekend my family and I were invited to the new house of my sister-in-law's sister in a ritzy neighborhood in San Diego called Rancho Santa Fe.

Early last month, they bought this house which was listed in March 2007 for $6.5M for $4.7M and the old owner had thrown in an almost brand new Jaguar convertible as a deal sweetner. This gathering was sort of a house warming party according to my wife and a "show off" party if you ask me.

Being without a doubt the poorest family in the midst of all the other invited guests, I was going around the house to find a corner to hide in or atleast find someone who I felt comfortable with. You guessed right! I am money and status concious. In the back yard, I found a group of men who were smoking cigars and drinking cocktails. They looked less rich and intimidating than some of the other men.

I casually walked towards them and one of them said hello and asked me to join the real men's corner. I shook hands with them and joined the conversation (more as a listener of course).

One of these guys was discussing his new yacht which was docked at one of the harbors in San Diego and the others were commenting. Apparently a 62 ft $1.5M yacht is nothing more than a toy these days. The numbers these people were throwing around started to make me dizzy. I realize I was in probably one of the richest towns in the U.S. but then I started thinking how many of these towns and cities there is in the entire U.S. of A. 10, 20, 50, 100? more?

Places like Monte Carlo, South of France, Corsica, Dubai and alike maybe playgrounds of the rich and famous or subjects of fantasy movies or TV documentaries. But boy in the whole scheme of things, there is so much money and wealth in the U.S. that anything and everything else in comparison is almost a joke.

Its no wonder this is the land of opportunity. The pie is so big that even smallest pieces of it, hell even crumbs of the damn pie is enough to make one rich beyound dreams.

I know money doesn't bring happiness, but it sure makes life easier.

Thats my opinion. Whats yours?

cute!!    the adam's apple on the brunette was most interesting ;-)

sure anyone can make it rich, "buy low/sell high" doesn't require an adam's apple or anything else masculin...   but women are smarter somehow they usually end up with a richer man  :P

I'm rich...

by LA (not verified) on

I consider myself a rich man because...
1- i have no debt.
2- my house is paid off
3- i put enough $$$ into for my son's 529 educational fund and my retirement.
I still work, but i do the things i love to do. i don't need yacht or ferrari or etc,,
The bottom line is if you're free of debt and have a shelter over your head than consider yourself a wealthy man.

survey shows that 90% of rich people when they asked them that "what would you do differently if we could turn the time 20 years earlier?"
They all had one answers in common.
I would spend more times with my family.

it's a rich man's world...

by IRANdokht on

you made me think of this song from ABBA  :0)

I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay
Aint it sad
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
Thats too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldnt have to work at all, Id fool around and have a ball...

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich mans world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich mans world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
Its a rich mans world

A man like that is hard to find but I cant get him off my mind
Aint it sad
And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldnt fancy me
Thats too bad
So I must leave, Ill have to go
To las vegas or monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same...

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich mans world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich mans world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
Its a rich mans world

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich mans world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich mans world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
Its a rich mans world

Its a rich mans world

Well,..that's capitalism

by Honest Hassan on

Well,..that's capitalism for you.

What I don't understand, is some Iranian leftists, who benefited the most under the capitalism in the U.S., are, still, among it's worst enemies!

Buddy! If the Revolution ever comes, the first heads that roll are Yours!

If anyone should complain about capitalism, it is me, who worked my ass off in Mc Donald's and gas stations, for minimum wage!

You got rich on capitalism, paying your Mexican workers $4/hr, and you talk crap about capitalism???

Iranian pleassssssse...

Mmmmm

by Ali P. on

According to Marx, wealth, anywhere, is built on the back of the poor working class, and we ( the poor people!) should, and would , resent it,get tired of it, and rebel, and make it all one class one day, some day.

This may be true elsewhere; especially in countries like Iran. You see a mansion and you think " Son of a bitch! I wonder son of which Mullah owns it, or what corrupt high official helped build this!"

But here, in the land of the free, and home of the brave(!), most of us don't think that way! You don't resent Bill Gates, or Donald Trump. We see the mansion and the yacht and  think:" Son of a bitch! I wonder what clever idea, what dot com, what contraption, what easy scheme he came up with, to get this! The hell with this poverty, darveesh baazee crap! I wanna join the rich!"

"Mardom shaans daaran vaalaah! Ishaalaah yakheh man ham hameen rooz haa meegeereh, va az dasteh sarkoofteh khaanom- keh hay pooleh faameelaasho beh rokham meekesheh- raahat meesham!", you think to yourself.

So basically, you don't mind the rich. You just think that it sucks that you are not one of them ( and if you ever make it to their club, the hell with all the gedaa-goodeh haa, you left behind!)

I don't know.

 What do you all think?

Ali P.

P.S. Faramarz: I have a feeling your ship is going to arrive this year. Just don't forget the rest of us when, on a Sunday morning, you are having Deezee on your yacht!

 Happy Norooz! :-)
