What would Iran have looked like if Shah had stayed.

Imagine for a moment that somehow Shah would have beaten his cancer in a week and would jet back to Iran to crush the uprisings and put Khomeini on trial and killed as many as it took to put order back in the streets.

It is 1983 and despite the bitter anger that people felt about the mass killings and the blistering UN Human Rights violation reports on Iran that went to Security Council but was vetoed by Ronald Reagan the country has moved on from 1979.

Reza Pahlavi II has come back from Houston with a degree in Liberal Arts and has taken over some causes here and there.  Shah had ordered some reforms and now people can vote for their representatives in Majlis and Senate but the candidates are filtered through a committee appointed by the Shah.

Shah has taken a back from the day to day ruling and spends most of his time building palaces and resorts in various parts of the country.  He starts a project in Gheshm Island to turn it into a mecca for shopping and sporting venues.

Shah dies in 2004 at the age of 85 at the height of the Iraq war and Reza Pahlavi II is coronated in a lavish ceremony and country put on a 3 day holiday to celebrate.  Upon taking power he orders new sets of reforms to change the subsidy plans into voucher plans in order to stabilize the country after Iran's foreign debts become harder to pay.  Riots ensue which he brutally cracks down that surprises observers who thought that a Houston educated man should have responded differently.

He continues to rule by suppressing dissent until 2011 when Arab Spring is in full swing.  USA is pulling out of Iraq and things are all messed up when I suddenly wake up!  I get up and go to the bathroom and say to myself I need to slow down on spicy food at night!

If the shah had recited his recoronation vows, it would be great for Business as Tourism would be booming and our ski resorts and caspian sea would be world class destinations like they used to be.  Yes you bring up a good point, if Shah had recited his coronation vows Irans future and present would be alot brighter than it is.

Whats good about this blog is based on just where iran was at,

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

with the late shah and the direction it was going we can realize many things.

Most importantly that losing the monarchy and the shah was for Iranians the largest and longest catastophe. Iran entered a period known as the dark days of Iran. Days where the corruption of the religious authorities destroyed so many lives and created a very painful existence for most Iranians.

Certainly Sports, Arts & Culture would have had Resources

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Realistically more infusion of money and help than the entire Iranian economy of $400 Billion Today.

Instead of iranians getting helped they are being given sentences banning them from working, flogging the, robbing them the usual story of what Iran was like before the Pahlavi's served the country, with a several trillion dollar economy and rising $400 billion is peanuts, but better than zilch today.

Institution of Monarchy would have become many times more powerful, because thats what happens when you produce success and a culture of greater love, for now we have moved towards a culture of hate, intolerance and corruption.

Iran would likely have its own version of the Oscars and many artists would be getting recognized by their peers.  More LOVE, FREEDOM, PATRIOTISM, INCLUSION & EVOLUTION.  If only shah had stayed, but alas he didn't so now we need to look forward based on where we are. I for one would love for sports, arts and culture to be supported.

If JJ had Stayed!

by Faramarz on

Esfand Jaan,

If JJ had stayed, as you mentioned he would be running the Iranian version of Twitter called "Jeek Jeek" and had made a few bucks. But he still would have promised you new changes are soon to come!

Esfand Aashena

If Shah had stayed JJJ would've become the Steve Jobs of Iran!

by Esfand Aashena on

Faramarz jaan I think JJJ would've become a Billionaire in some sort of dot com business like Amazon or Google or something!  He could've been a contender!  Oh well!

Now as far as Osama I think he'd have still existed and done the same dirty deeds since he never liked Iran or USA to begin with.  The Israeli Palestinian conflict is one for the ages.  I agree it'd have been unlikely that Russians would've gone into Afghanistan but Osama could've based himself in Chechnya or Somalia and become a pirate warlord!

As for being the first to establish the first theocracy and saving the Arab Spring, those lucky bastards!  Now judging from how we behave now I think we'd still be as stubborn and do it my way or highway and end up trying to re-invent the wheel!

BTW this what've happened if Shah had stayed could be like You know you're a redneck when ....!

No Iranian.com if Shah had Stayed!

by Faramarz on

If Shah would have returned immediately and got rid of Khomeini there would have been no understanding of what a horrible thing an Islamic Republic is. Therefore in places like Egypt people might be fantasizing about a theocracy today. So we saved the Arab Spring!

If Shah had returned even as a figure head, the Iranian superior military would have remained intact and with the American presence in Iran neither Saddam would have crossed Arvand Rood or Russian tanks would have rolled into Afghanistan. And even if the Russians did, Congressman Wilson would have supplied Ahmad Shah Masoud through Iran and the Pashtoon and the foreign fighters through Pakistan which means after the Russians' withdrawal Northern Alliance might have taken over and not Taliban (with implications on Osama and 9/11!)

If Shah had stayed, there would have been no Iranian.com or no Iranian of the Day!

Monarchy is dead in most countries.

by Esfand Aashena on

Monarchy is dead in:

Egypt.
Libya.
Iran.
Iraq.
Yemen.
Afghanistan.
Pakistan.
Syria.
Lebanon.
France.
Italy.
Germany.
Sweden.
USA.

Happiness is in the eye of the beholder.  You can be a millionaire and be depressed and suicidal or you can be poor and happy.

In most cases what people do and how much money they have identifies how "happy" they are.  If you are poor with little or no prospects chances are you'll be unhappy.

Whatever the case may be, Monarchs in all these countries treated the citizens like unruly children and thought beating them into submission would work.  Well it didn't and now it's people's fault who were beaten in the first place?!

This reminds me of the movie Casualties of War (1989) where Sean Penn raped and then killed a Vietnamese girl he had abducted and during his court martial trial his "defense" was that since the girl was crying and making sound and "giving their position" away he had to kill her!

You can imagine how the prosecutor responded.  Watch the film and you'll find out!

The sad thing about the direction of Iran Today, which most

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Iranians feel is wrong, unlike The late Shahs time which most Today Iranians feel was right, is that people are now looking for miracles and divine intervention which leads to a life that is a lie and a full of misery.
The Shah loved Iran enough to want Iranians thinking to be supported by
logic, science and experimentation.  And not have the government of the
people interferred with by people trying to unsuccessfully interpret out
dated thoughts that should be discarded. We’re living in an amazing
time, those of us living outside Iran.  See it with your own eyes.  //www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyOtIsnG71U

Too thought provoking and imagination stimulating!

by fanoos on

Too thought provoking and imagination stimulating!

First off, this reminds me of the metaphor my cousin Shahla who used to say, "If I had an additional breast on my back, then my boy friend could hold on something while dancing with me!"

This is very intriguing indeed. But let me add a binary factor (0, 1) in the this hypothetical scenario and that is the people of Iran. That is, 1 for progressive Iranians and 0 for regressive Iranians.

If people of Iran had evolved over the years like the rest of the modern world then I would venture that Iran under the Shah in the 2000's would be very progressive and advanced in all fronts socially, culturally, economically, technologically, industrially, and others as well.

Otherwise, it would exactly be like what it is today!

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy

History is kind to the Shah. Not so for Muslims in Iran.

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

MUSLIMS ARE NOT HAPPY
They´re not happy in Gaza.
They're not happy in Egypt.
They're not happy in Libya.
They're not happy in Morocco.
They're not happy in Iran.
They're not happy in Iraq.
They're not happy in Yemen.
They're not happy in Afghanistan.
They're not happy in Pakistan.
They're not happy in Syria.
They're not happy in Lebanon.
So, where are they happy?
They're happy in Australia.
They're happy in Canada.
They're happy in England.
They're happy in France.
They're happy in Italy.
They're happy in Germany.
They're happy in Sweden.
They're happy in the USA.
They're happy in almost every country that is not Muslim!
And whom do they blame?
Not Islam...
Not their leadership...
Not themselves...
THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN!
And they want to change the countries they're happy in,
to be like the countries they came from,
where they were unhappy.
Try to find logic in that !

Iraq wars are different issue

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

1st war was due to Iraq's ambition to have Kuwait, since Shah was the protector of the region it would not have happened as he would have made clear to Iraq he would defend Kuwait and not bait saddam like the USA did.  US policy changed after Shah's removal to one based on loving Islam in power and spreading non-secular governments based on Sharia Law, the reason Iraq was invaded was because saddam was a dictator and would not allow his secular government to be changed, so an Invasion was necessary to do a regime change by force and install a non secular government.

The new policy is for selling weapons in the future and to create divide and rule policies.  You can't have these 2 policies side by side, so if shah stayed the USA would not be putting Islamists in power to help make the people intolerant and backwards and willing to die in large numbers for extremist idea's.
