Italian producer Angelo Barbagallo has boarded Abbas Kiarostami’s “The Certified Copy,” starring Juliette Binoche. Pic is set to start shooting in March in Tuscany. Barbagallo is an award winning producer known for his collaborations with Italian filmmaker Nanni Morreti.

Barbagallo’s Rome-based Bibi Film will co-produce the Iranian auteur’s first feature shot outside his native country, and also his first work toplining a Western star, which Gaul’s MK2 is producing.
Binoche will play a French art gallery owner who falls for an older novelist, played by French thesp Sami Frey, as they travel around the Chianti countryside.
Binoche spent time in Iran with Kiarostami this month to prepare for her role, irritating local pols who are not pleased that the Iranian helmer cast Binoche, calling it “cultural destruction.”
“Certified Copy” will be Kiarostami’s first feature since “Ten,” shot in 2002, which was about women in Tehran.

Another Kiarostami movie... is this one of those where he leaves the camera rolling, goes out runs his errands, comes back and claims to have a movie made..."slice of life" I believe is what he LIKES to think...his movies suck, big time...

Cultural destruction?

Really, Juliet Binoche all by her tiny little self? Talk about hyperventilation. Whose culture by the way? These narrow minded types can't claim Kiarostami as one of their own anyway. Weren't these the same people who wanted to beat up Kiarostami when he went back to Tehran after winning Palm D'or for Taste of Cherry because he air kissed Catherine Deneuve in the award ceremony?
