PRISON BREAK: Jafar Panahi Photos upon Release from Prison (Thx Redwine)

My fellow blogger Redwine pointed me to the photos of Jafar Panahi's release from Prison after paying his bail. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterand applauded his release, regretting however that the Iranian filmmaker could not make it to the Cannes Jury where he was expected. Also firmly expressed their desire to see the filmmaker be able to work without constraints be them politcal or social.

Thanks DK,  This is great news.  It does show that pressure works. 

Vildemose jaan, you are right on, now that Panahi is freed, maybe our human rights experts could help us learn how we could help the ones that are still in prison.  Majid Tavakoli for example and specifically.

news and it shows that international pressure will work.  Binoche's reaction was amazing.  I was also very impressed by Kiarostami's response about FEAR although it was cut off at the end of the video.  Same pressure, I agree is needed to help all political prisoners(be it Majod Tavakoli, and the list goes on!)

Yes, International pressure works but the morally bankrupt Judicary of this junta also once again profiteers ($200,000 for Panahi's bail)! As it's long been established - those who can pay get released from their trumpted up charges. Those who can't can unfortunately face the gallows! Now he can carry the label of political activist to international film festivals. That will have the judges softened on this Iranian film director who went to jail for ( A few days ?? ) and came out an intellectual.
