Shot on location in Paris, Charade is probably one of Stanley Donen's Best Spy films starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, George Kennedy and James Coburn with Henry Manchini's superb Music Score.

Regina Lambert ( Audrey Hepburn) returns to Paris from a ski holiday in Switzerland to find that her husband has been murdered. She is later told by CIA agent Hamilton Bartholemew ( Walter Mathau) that Charles Lambert was one of five men who stole $250,000 in gold from the U.S. government during World War II, and the government wants it back. The money was not found among his possessions, and Regina can shed no light on its whereabouts. Later that day she is visited by Peter Joshua ( Cary Grant) , whom she had met briefly while on holiday. When her husband's former partners in crime, who were double-crossed by Charles, start calling her looking for the money, Peter offers to help find it. Thus begins an elaborate charade in which nothing is what it seems to be.

I suppose one of the reasons is that at the time there were not as many dubbers with recognizeable voices. Some equaly dubbed Cary Grant and Rock Hudson or Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day.Its the same here in France where I often hear the same voice for Sean Connery and Harrison Ford.

But I do remember a great variety of voices used to dubb the Hollywood or European films. I would love to find out who they were and if some are still alive to explain how they worked and made them choose the voices.

Glad you liked it.

Warm Regards,

Dariush jan thank you...

I love all the classic movies, in fact I am TCM junkie and always wondered how they would sound in Farsi, now I know and they actually sound funnier :)  And I have been renting old persian movies and all the acters have same voices, and is same as the one above, why is that!
