Puzzled!

How on the earth such a nation was defeated by a bunch of nomadic backward arabs?

How on the earth such a nation could not recover from the arab defeat and practically being ruled by a foreign culture for 1400 years?

How on earth such a nation with then one-thousand year old confidence subjugated themselves to a permanent defeat by arabs?

How on earth a nation so consumed by religious beliefs (as in today) could be forced to abandon their religion and beliefs then so completely for a new religion and a new god who were not only no better but far more brutal and far less morale (as we see today).

Why? How? Did gods have a hand in that plan?
