MON CINEMA: Asghar Farhadi's "About Elly" (2009)

I saw this film last weekend and was astonished by the emotional suspense, good acting and great cinematography which made me even forget it was an Iranian movie. The film is also an indirect tribute to Michelangelo Antonioni's  L’Avventura.

About Elly has recieved very good reviews in France and has got a wide nationwide distribution here which is quite rare for Iranian films in general including for Kiarostami or Makhmalbaf films.

About Elly Trailer

Trailer for Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura:

A group of middle-class Iranian friends travel to the shores of the Caspian Sea on vacation. The trip is planned by Sepideh (Golshifteh Farahani) who has brought along her daughter's kindergarten teacher Elly in order to introduce her to Ahmad (Shahab Hosseini), a friend who is visiting from Germany. All is fun and games until Elly goes missing presumed drowned. The rest of the film chronicles the friends’ attempts to deal with this disappearance.

  • Ahmad Mehranfar as Manoochehr
  • Ra'na Azadivar
