Libya's Exiled Crown Prince calls on world to stop 'massacre,' remove Gaddafi

Muhammad al Senussi, the heir apparent of Libya's overthrown monarchy, called on the international community Thursday to help oust Libyan strongman Moammar Gaddafi and denounced the "massacre" he said was being committed against his countrymen. In an interview with Al Jazeera television, the 48-year-old grand nephew of the late deposed Libyan king said it was up to the Libyan people whether they wanted to restore the monarchy but that the world must act now to protect Libyans from brutality unleashed by Kadafi loyalists."The international community knows the way to stop the massacre," al Senussi said in broken English from his home in exile in London.Asked if he would support foreign military intervention, the self-styled crown prince replied: "Anything to stop the killing, I would support it."Libya's short-lived monarchy began and ended with King Idris, who ruled from 1951 until a military coup led by then 27-year-old Kadafi drove the royal family into exile. Idris died in Cairo in 1983. He fathered five sons and a daughter but none survived childhood, leaving no direct heir. At least one other distant relative of the king also claims to be rightful heir to the throne. (See Related News)

Libya's 'crown prince' makes appeal to stop the massacre ( Al Jazeera):

Muhammad al-Senussi, who would be Libya's crown prince if the country still had a monarchy, has spoken out about the ongoing violence in the country from London. Libya was a monarchy until Muammar Gaddafi took power in a military coup in 1969 and the exiled King Idris has long since died. In this interview with Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips, al-Senussi asks the international community to help remove Gaddafi from power and stop the ongoing "massacre".

In the current Libyan context Are Surgical Strikes against Gaddafi Still Unjustified? :

Barbara Slavin on what she deemed as useless Surgical Strikes conducted against Gaddafi in Libya by the Reagan Administration on April 15th 1986. (See BBC report)

Above video  description : Middle East expert Abbas Milani  and USA Today reporter Barbara Slavin argue that U.S. "surgical strikes" are not a practical option for dealing with Iran's alleged nuclear program.

Based on the counter productive War on Terror in Afghanistan or Iraq, Middle East experts to date have often opposed Military intervention to oust despotic regimes wary of the consequences for local populations. But can the same be said when the depot uses tanks, warplanes, bazookas and all types of sophisticated military means to crush rebellion amongst his own people?

Is this an OBAMA / UN / EUROPE DILEMMA? :

Reagan’s Strikes Libya on April 15th 1986 to defend American’s against Qaddafi’s Terrorist attacks. Yet Today it’s not Americans who are being killed by the Regime but Libyans.

Scene from Film with the famous tagline: “

"Deux intellectuels assis vont moins loin qu'une brute quimarche ..." aka " You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk ? "

Plot:

Adapted from a popular novel by actor-screenwriter René Havard, Un taxi pour Tobrouk is a classic French war film that exposes the brutality and absurdity of war without recourse to sentimentality or laboured anti-war polemic.

Libya, 1942 : Four soldiers in the Free French Forces are crossing the desert when their jeep breaks down.  They have no other option but to continue their journey to Tobruk on foot.  On the way, they encounter a party of German soldiers - one of whom they take captive, the others they shoot down.  Taking possession of the Germans’ jeep, the four French soldiers resume their desert crossing with their reluctant prisoner.  What ensues is an odyssey that is both hazardous and revealing, but it is doubtful that any of the five men will live to tell the tale ...
