HISTORY OF VIOLENCE:US Shoots Down Civilian Iran Air Flight 655 (1988)
by Darius Kadivar
The US has admitted the USS Vincennes was at fault in shooting down the Iran Air airbus and were mistaken in thinking it was a fighter aircraft about to attack them. Iran Air Flight 655, also known as IR655, was a civilian airliner shot down by the United States Navy on Sunday 3 July 1988, over the Strait of Hormuz.

My memory of reaction to this incident

by Anahid Hojjati on

When this incident happened, I was a new employee at Boeing Commercial Airplane.  Even though it was the commercial division, still it was Boeing. A very traditional company.  I had an Iranian friend/coworker who had worked there few years more than me.  He was a brave guy.  Day after incident , he was walking around in our building and telling people that US did this on purpose.  I have to say I was impressed by his outspokenness.
