What can RP do to help Iranian community? BIG help in Turkey ...
by MM on Fri May 07, 2010 07:45 PM PDTRegarding what RP can do to help the Iranian community:
I know that Hovakhshatare has brought up the plight of the Iranian refugees in Turkey in IC before, but to be short, Turkey is one of the first countries that the Iranian refugees run to. There, they are scared, alone and financially/mentally broken. In return, the IRI agents are abundant in Turkey and they have been known to beat up, repatriate or kill refugees.
Reza Pahlavi can help a lot of Iranian refugees as well as himself by setting up a base in a city(s) in Turkey to help the refugees secure financial, medical, legal help as well as registration w/ the UN. Let's not forget about other neighboring countries, but seems like Turkey is the hub.

by benross on Fri May 07, 2010 06:16 PM PDTI'm disappointed. Not at you, but myself. I thought I laid out the background of this, fairly clearly throughout the past discussions over time. Whether it's about our 'collective guilt' that we should face or modern values that was never part of Islamic revolution or legitimacy of RP as the crown prince based on one and only legitimate constitution that the history of struggle for modernity had offered to us. There are vast areas to explore if I have to start from scratch. My mind is not ready for it just now.
But for the sake of this discussion, I put it differently. Suppose you are a British subject with preference for a republic system. Then suddenly an Islamic Revolution occurs in England (which apparently is not very far fetched!) and you, along many other British subjects are chased out of the country, living in U.S or other places along with your queen. Now you are trying to regroup and get your country back. Queen is still the legitimate queen of your country and you still have preferences for a republican system. How do you reconcile this for reaching your primary goal right now? If you ask the queen to show leadership for liberating your country, wouldn't you call her 'your majesty'?!
If Iranians abroad, who at some point were involved in the demise of the past regime, do not deal with their collective guilt and regroup around what historically is legitimate, any expectation you have from his majesty is based on denial. When you called RP your king, your king will show his leadership. You will still have your chance to express yourself as a republican in free Iran. This, despite all the efforts of saboteurs, was never an issue. Dealing with collective guilt was.
I have a bad flue with bad fever. This is as far as I can go right now. But I explore more in the future if necessary.

by Raoul1955 on Fri May 07, 2010 05:00 PM PDTYou forgot to add our President Obama to your list of folks who just give speeches. He is our President and yet all he does is to read off a teleprompter. Now about other issues that you raised vis-à-vis opening of hospitals, schools, banks for loans, etc. Do you expect him to do such all over the planet, or just in America? Rhetorical question of course.
There are many places that offer such services to all in our country, assuming that you also live in America. There are many great men and women who help the humanity without engaging in actions that you have listed.
One’s expectations should be based on reality and not one’s fantasy, desires, and daydreams.
It doesn't even have to be
by benross on Fri May 07, 2010 04:58 PM PDTIt doesn't even have to be out of his own pocket. His leadership on that front is sorely lacking.
Actually this is the part my 'you' was addressing. To you and to Mina.
When you and Mina (not supporters of previous regime without any critical view) come and tell him you my lord, the king of Iran, our saviour, please do something about us... I assure you he will do that.
But as long as you call him 'a politician'... that doesn't cut it.
Of-course, I put some salt in it to make it more interesting! But I'm sure you understood what I mean.
benross: He is much better
by vildemose on Fri May 07, 2010 04:49 PM PDTbenross: He is much better than last year. Let's hope he keeps improving. I also have to agree with Mina Dadvar. He needs to get involved in the Iranian community and help the community in any way he can; fundraisings of all sorts for all kinds of social causes in the Iranian community.
It doesn't even have to be out of his own pocket. His leadership on that front is sorely lacking.

by benross on Fri May 07, 2010 04:40 PM PDTYes I guess. There were two with Azari accent. One very monarchist and I guess the other one was the "son of Moosavi" who was initially banned.
I don't know if you noticed but the host of the discussion, himself a republican, had the same syndrome that many have abroad. And this is strictly the fault of RP confusing roadmap. I'm not insisting to clarify it right away, specially now that I saw these discussions, but as long as there is no mention of the fact that rejection of IRI has the other side of coin, which is by the way, the only reason RP is involved in this whole thing, the discussions won't lead to a concrete action.
This missing link is the whole point and look what kind of people try to sabotage it so that it never materialize. It's nice to say a free referendum for rejecting IRI and the future regime will be decided by a constiturent assembly. But who organize the efforts from here to there, and under what legitimacy?
You talk to RP, you ask RP to do things, you even call him the crown prince, but you stop short of asking him to act as one. This may not be strictly RP shortcoming after all. It's yours.
(not you vildemose, you, anybody who reads this! btw my knowledge on detail of the event is as much as yours and my perception of Azari people in the discussion is just a personal guess)
benross: Ok, I thought so

DK Jan
by minadadvar on Fri May 07, 2010 03:50 PM PDTI really like/respect you. But, RP, has not done anything beneficial for Iraninan Community. Nothing, Nothing, Nothing. He has given speeches. Fine. So does Sarah Palin.
Has he opened an office helping Iranian immigrants? No. A medical center for Iranians ? No. A school for Iranians learning English? NO. NO.NO.NO.
I am sure, if his grandfather had his opportunities, Iran would have been a different place today.
Really really good stuff
by benross on Fri May 07, 2010 02:43 PM PDT20 years late, but still as good.
vildemose, I guess the person who was banned later was in the discussion but it's just a guess.
DK jan: I listened to all
by vildemose on Fri May 07, 2010 01:14 PM PDTDK jan: I listened to all the clips and I'm glad that he is turning into a quite a diplomat. He genuinely seems to have internalized the spirit and letter of democracy, which is a tall order even for those of us who have lived abroad for a long time.
Hope he shows some leadership skills or try to develop it in the future interviews. He should have tried to at least found out why one of the activistis was banned or at least showed more interest in trying to find out what happened???
Ok, he looks good. He's

by Raoul1955 on Fri May 07, 2010 08:42 AM PDTTheft is an illegal act, and not a term used by folks when they don't like someone's financial or social position.
If there are persons or entities possessing documents supporting a theft of a magnitude claimed by you, then they should refer such to the appropriate prosecuting attorneys and in the appropriate jurisdictions, otherwise making accusations or claims about someone or some entity, presents accuser(s) as immature or even jealous.
Cheers
