WHAT IF?????

WHAT IF?????
by capt_ayhab

What if our foreign policy of the past century is deeply flawed and has not served our national security interests?

What if we wake up one day and realize that the terrorist threat is a predictable consequence of our meddling in the affairs of others? And has nothing to do with us being free and prosperous.

What if propping up repressive regimes in the Middle East endangers both the United States and Israel?

What if occupying countries like Iraq and Afghanistan – and bombing Pakistan – is directly related to the hatred directed toward us?

What if someday it dawns on us that losing over 5,000 American military personnel in the Middle East since 9/11 is not a fair trade-off for the loss of nearly 3,000 American citizens, no matter how many Iraqi, Pakistani, and Afghan people are killed or displaced?

What if we finally decide that torture, even if called “enhanced interrogation techniques,” is self-destructive and produces no useful information – and that contracting it out to a third world nation is just as evil?

guys...guys...

i just gotta ask both of you.  do each of you consider this issue so cut and dried?  all you do is substitute "muslim" for "zionist"... or "iran" with "israel".  or for that matter, "US" with "anybody else in the world".  neither side is completely innocent and neither side is completely guilty.  i don't think it's productive to even discuss percentages.  does it really make a difference WHO is more wrong... or WRONGED?  do you honestly think you couldn't go to google and find some videos of palestinean atrocities against israel?  why aren't you working to find some COMMON ground.

if you don't behave, i'm going to stop the car and THEN you'll be sorry.     :-)))

cap'n.  by referring to a demanding schedule, can i deduce that your son is doing his residency or fellowship?  what field of medicine is he in?

What If

by capt_ayhab on

What if Israel stopped DEMOLISHING homes of Palestinians in East Jerusalem?

[JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel demolished two Palestinian houses in East Jerusalem Monday, a day before U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton was to launch an initial effort to shore up the foundations of a shaky peace process.

Two bulldozers flattened a home owned by Mahmoud al-Abbasi in the Arab neighborhood of Silwan on land Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

Israeli authorities said the house was built without a municipal permit......]

What if world wakes up and tries Israeli leaders for all the crimes they have committed in the name of self defense?

What if Israel stops being the big bully and aggressor in the region?

What if Israel respects the right of rest of the ME for existence?

What if AIPAC stops demonizing entire Muslim world for their political gains?

What if you worry about YOUR country and tell YOUR country to stop planning WAR and attack on Iran?

What if Israel really becomes what they preach, and that is real peace.

What if Israel stops all the lies and propaganda about Iran?

What if you LEARN a little bit about other people instead of SPEWING hate and propaganda at all times?

What if Zionist stop teaching HATE?

My friend, everything you see happening in ME is sole responsibility of Israel, and so as long as people of Israel support blindly their criminal governments the resistance is going to go on.

Repeating the lies and propaganda, as you have been doing, does not turn a lie to truth. Wake up and smell the blood you have been spilling in the world.

capt_ayhab - Yes, what if?

by Mehdi Mazloom on

WHAT IF Muslim clerics stop preaching hatred to their innocent children?

WHAT IF Arab & Iranian leaders will Forster freedom of expression, among all people. Instead of oppress them

WHAT IF Teachers throughout the Arab & Islamic countries start teaching their student the art of building, instead of destroying.

WHAT IF innocent Muslims are taught to use their big heads to build better economy and educational system which produces better standard of living - instead of using their little head to produce more and more hungry mouths, with little or no means to feed and educate them

WHAT IF tomorrow the brave and oppressed Iranian people will rise up and throw this despotic and hate-filled regime, which had failed them time and time again?

WHAT IF Iranian people who hate no one (including my country of Israel) deserve the kind of leadership, which will lead them to better life and better relationship with their neighbors, then they have now.

I could indulge others with more of these "what if's" if necessary.

If you want to share Melville with your son - I'm pretty sure you have - you should definitely check this out: a moby dick pop-up book by sam ita. Don't ask me why I know about it. It's a great gift for kids and adult lovers of Melville. The details will blow you away!

Angler

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

Before I answer about the book, let me tell you how much Internet reading I did on Cheney before and after the wars in Af. and Ir. I know a lot about the guy, and I think Angler is still important because it compiles all the Cheney evil doing.

What I have read (2 chapters) is very fascinating. He does give a lot of behind the scenes that must have cost him a lot of time and digging. I can't believe the things people said about cheney to him. For instance, he was hired to FIND a VP candidate For W and after he got all the ugly details on the "candidates" (one question was 'can you be blackmailed?'), he told W he was unable to find anyone. Genius! Evil Genius!

But honestly, I couldn't bring myself to read it during the end of the election or right after. I'm still very excited about the change in leadership and I'm dieting from Cheney and Bush as much as possible. It's not helpful.

Angler

by capt_ayhab on

Being perfectly honest, I was given a copy of the Angler, but so far I have not been able to sit myself down to read it all the way.

My reason, anytime I pick it up to read I get so frustrated and angry at HOW we, as a nation whose forefathers wrote the most comprehensive constitution, let all these occur. What makes me angrier is that it all happened in 21st century[stop the rant and rave YT].

But I know I will read it more that once, one of these day. Perhaps the day that I hear Congress has finally indicted him, then I'll know that the story has ended in JUST note.

Have you finished reading it? and what do you think about it?

Ayhab... Ahab

by capt_ayhab on

When I was very young, which seems 1000 of years ago. My father was an avid reader, monthly book club, basement made into library of 100's books and sorts. That was his retreat from his daily work, except his beautiful wife[mother] of course.

for my 8th or 9th birthday he gave me three books: Shahnameh[book of kings] White Fang by Jack London  and Moby Dick by Herman Melville. All three are [were] rather complex writings[for that age of mine]. But he insisted that I read and read and read till I understand the story, for which I am for ever grateful to him, among many many other things. I have passed on those 3 books[same copies he gave me] to my own son, which is irrelevant to your question,  just wanted to mention it.

Anyways, captain Ayhab[Ahab] is a character in Moby-Dick. ever since i read that book, I was fascinated by  his character. Ahab also comes from the Bible(1 kings 16:28)

Ayhab was  the tyrannical captain of the Pequod who is driven by a monomaniacal desire to kill Moby Dick, the whale that maimed him on the previous whaling voyage. Killing the whale was the only thing in his life that drove him, to the point of madness.

[to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.]

I have kept up with my reading habit, and fortunately my son, despite his horribly hard and demanding schedule reads at least 2 book per month.

1 more question! captain have you read angler?

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

it is very long and I have no problem with this at all, but is there a bombshell in it besides the usual depression that comes from reading about cheney? thanks !

p.s. students love teachers later than sooner in life. especially if they are early college students. be tough like the pope :) they'll love you for it.

Captain Ayhab PLEASE

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

please explain yourself. explain this name you have chosen here. ayhab was george bush. ayhab was delusional and dangerous. what's the 411 with this name???

books are fantastic. do you know what would happen if obama did the amazing move of starting a book club? Republicans would say "he's hitler! he's asking people to do singular thinking!" Ugh. I just want to say this about Obama - I'm so glad to have an educator (he was a law professor) in the white house. Not since woodrow wilson have we had an educator in the presidency. Am I right about this?

I'm glad you are an educator. What a great thing to hear. We have also turned to "commentators" as informers. My comment about "our way of life" is from the mouths of 1. mark levin 2. sean hannity. I've heard this and other versions of it in weird places, like from the mouths of TEENS who rush to take photos with Sean Hannity thinking he gives a shoot about balancing the budget (only if it involves his big ass mortgage! haha).

Do you know what Maya Angelou said once? It's in her book I know why the caged bird sings. She said once "I told on the person who raped me. When I found out he was beaten to death, I didn't talk for 7 years. I just listened. I understood and feared the power of words." I would LOVE to hear what she thinks of the crap in our televisions about ourselves. Wars and hate are breeding over and over because of these words "OUR way of life." as if people elsewhere don't want to have families, eat kebabs and fries and enjoy R & R once in a while.

enough of this. this is a great blog. thanks man.

I 3rd the book club idea!!!

by anonymous fish on

there is nothing more satisfying to me than a book.  sometimes they're short and fairly brainless... sometimes I tackle something a little heavier than Grisham.  but i've always got something to read close by.  great idea!!!

[What if America woke up and read a book a week? (ann coulter doesn't count)]

Being an educator by trade, I have come to realize that very early. therefore, I think I am entitled to criticize my ass-off about the average American, since I am in daily contact with [cream of the crop] naming the students.

This detachment from daily events is so obvious when one talks about issues in the class of 50 or 60. There was a time in this country that that knowledge and hard work was the equivalent of patriotism, but not any more. We have turned into nation of fast food, sex in the city, and disparate house wives.

[DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA:START A BOOK CLUB! ]

Call to the arms been made by President. As of this semester, I have been challenging my  students to read at least one book per week and submit a short one page report on it. Or they can read 5 articles, from 5 newspapers/magazines about 5 different subject and turn in one paragraph summary for each article.

I am not, as of this moment, one of their favorite profs, but I am certain they will see the light.  ;-)

There are many series of such videos from Ron Paul. Although I am a centerist democrat, but I really respect Dr. Paul for his bravery and his truthfulness.

I do not know if you have seen the movie W. I watched it for the first time last nite and I was shocked to see how similar it is to what have been going on lately about Iran.

Thanks for your visit here

To quote a very astute young man, self-titled redneck, in alexandra pelosi's movie Right in America,"THEY HATE OUR WAY OF LIFE!!"

Obviously captain ayhab, you missed the memo. They hate miley cyrus!, salma hayek, nascar, porn, malls..... you know, stuff americans like. Foreign Policy? Do you think the average american knows what that even means?

What if America woke up and read a book a week? (ann coulter doesn't count)

Imagine the change!

Numerous Over-reactions

by khaleh mosheh on

The US foreign policy IMHO over the past century or so has been marred by a series of over reactions. Over-reactions for example with communism as a global threat to the capitalist system (which was say the underlying reason for 1953 coup ), over-reaction with the Islamic terrorism and its culmination in 9/11, over doing the support for Israel etc. Of course the Nazi's were evil and had to be uprooted- but their criminality and malevolent desires were evident in their actions.

As a metaphore, sometimes a surgeon has to remove a major organ say if she is dealing with cancer. On the other hand a surgoen's career will be very short (and she will be soon destitude) if she removes regularly the whole of large bowel if the patient has just got appendicitis.

It is the misapplication of the already  flawed precautionary principle //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precautionary_principle in politics.

such powerful message

by IRANdokht on

but why such poor delivery?

The music kept getting louder and the beat was completely muffling the spoken words about a minute into it. Since the writing was all scrambled, I could only figure out what the gist was, but not clearly said to convince the people who don't already agree.

I hope they redo it and make the message more clear, because it's important  for people to wake up from the coma that the Bush administration's propaganda machine put them under.

Thanks Capt'n, it's good to know people are out there trying to break through.
