7 Stages of HATE !
by capt_ayhab
02-Sep-2009

In past few weeks string of characters have appeared in IC which represent ugliest and most dangerous trait of a human being. and That is HATE:

What is it that make these dangerous characters tick? What is it that in this ugly feeling[HATE] that satisfies their most obnoxious and often criminal behavior?

In March of 2003 FBI Law enforcement published result of a 7 year study conducted by John R. Schafer, MA and Joe Navarro, MA on hate groups, aimed at producing a [MODEL] applicable to hate groups of all kinds.

Objectives: Understanding hate groups is essential for the development and implementation of successful intervention strategies, which depend on an understanding of the hate process. The proposed hate model consists of seven stages, including how hate groups define themselves, how hate groups target their victims and taunt them with verbal insults and offensive gestures, and how hate groups attack their victims with or without weapons.

They divide hate into two categories: rational and irrational hate.  Both rational and irrational hate mask personal insecurities. Everyone experiences personal insecurities in varying degrees throughout their lives. The more insecure a person feels, the larger the hate mask.  Not all insecure people are haters, but all haters are insecure people.

Empirical observations show that hate groups go through seven stages in the hate process. Haters, if unimpeded, pass through these seven successive stages without skipping a stage. In the first four stages, haters vocalize their beliefs. In the last three stages, haters act on their beliefs. A transition period exists between vocalization and acting out. In this transition period, violence separates hard-core haters from rhetorical haters.

Stage 1: The Haters Gather

Irrational haters seldom hate alone. They feel compelled, almost driven, to entreat others to hate as they do. Peer validation bolsters a sense of self-worth and, at the same time, prevents introspection, which reveals personal insecurities. Further, individuals otherwise ineffective become empowered when they join groups, which also provide anonymity and diminished accountability.

Stage 2: The Hate Group Defines Itself

Hate groups form identities through symbols, rhetoric's, rituals, and mythologies, which enhance the members' status and, at the same time, degrade the object of their hate.

Stage 3: The Hate Group Disparages the Target

Hate is the glue that binds haters to one another and to a common cause. By verbally debasing the object of their hate, haters enhance their self-image, as well as their group status.

Stage 4: The Hate Group Taunts the Target

Hate, by its nature, changes incrementally. Time cools the fire of hate, thus forcing the hater to look inward. To avoid introspection, haters use ever-increasing degrees of rhetoric and violence to maintain high levels of agitation. Slander, smear tactics, name calling, lying, profanity  and outright inhumane misinformation serves thier purpose in this stage.

Stage 5: The Hate Group Attacks the Target Without Weapons

This stage is critical because it differentiates vocally abusive haters from physically abusive ones. In this stage, hate groups become more aggressive, prowling their turf [IC community in this case] seeking vulnerable targets.

Stage 6: The Hate Group Attacks the Target with Weapons

Several studies confirm that a large number of bias attacks involve weapons.

Stage 7: The Hate Group Destroys the Target

The ultimate goal of haters is to destroy the object of their hate. Mastery over life and death imbues the hater with godlike power and omnipotence, which, in turn, facilitate further acts of violence. With this power comes a great sense of self-worth and value, the very qualities haters lack. However, in reality, hate physically and psychologically destroys both the hater and the hated.

Model Application to iranian.com community

A blogger targets an ideology, religion, language, gender, or nationality as his/her target. Hate immediately seeks support in the community by publishing hateful blog about his/her target hence attacking the kind[Stage 1]. The group establishes identity using phrases and word and certain type of behavior in the blogging, namely lies, misinformation, character assassination, profanity, name calling and such[Stage 2]. At this point the haters only disparage the target-the hated[Stage 3], they even adopt a name for him/herself which closely represents their hate target[ i.e. hatethis, hatethat]. As time passes the hater openly insult the targeted group of ideology[Stage 4], often under the disguise of [patriotism, nationalism, freedom of expression, freedom of speech] . At [Stage 5] family and the honor of the targeted group is openly insulted. Stages 6 and 7 yet to been seen!

Dear Natalia

by jamshid on

Not only Q does stand for the IRI's treatment of Iranians, but he backs it up with argumentation as well. He cleverly covers himself up though with statements such as "I acknowledge there are some "flaws" within the system, but..."

What follows after "but" could be a varitey of misleadings.

This first class hate-monger preaches about the unvirtues of hate, but then goes on and propagate hate on a daily basis. Just as mollahs preach about spirituality, and at night when they go home, they commit they most unspeakable corrupt acts.

Let’s Cooperate

by Anvar on

Dear *capt_ayhab* - I am so humbled and appreciative of your kind words and resolve.

I also tried not to name names.  There’s no doubt that other minorities, beside Baha’is, have also suffered tremendously.  I should have been clearer to state that all religious and ethnic minorities, as well a women, need protection, deserve freedom, and should enjoy equal rights.

I am truly touched by your heartfelt promise.  For the betterment of humanity and advancement of civilization; I, too, promise to cooperate with all decent people regardless of background, ethnicity, or belief system.

Just as the Captain stated, he and I are of different faiths.  It would be easy for us to get into arguments with each other about our differences or what our grandfathers might have done to each other.  That would be a total waste of time and energy.  Of course, I’m sure that, given the right circumstances, we might even enjoy discussing and exploring our differences.

Let us first collaborate with each other on the bigger ideas.

One last thought on Captain’s call for everyone to show up to anti-Baha’i blogs:  No one else really needs to refute those claims for us.  I just ask that you to also review authentic materials before making any decisions for yourself.  Those hate-filled and misinforming blogs are designed to cause separation between Muslims, or Iranians in general, and Baha’is.  Since I can’t hate them back, I just laugh at their wasteful efforts.

Just to try to put the thread back in its intended path, I suggest that you do not waste your barking regarding Islam. This ain't about Islam KIDS.

Take a trip to the blog land and see the amount of hate that is being spewed about Bahai's, and if you are a MAN and not a MOUSE, show some of your outrage about those blogs.

Theory has proven time and time again, your fixation on your insecurities and your hatred had blinded you to plight of Bahai Iranians who are being MURDERED, and those genocidal acts are being supported by certain characters MUCH LIKE YOURSELVES, in this very site.

Show some MANHOOD and stand up to those hateful blogs about Bahai's you gutless morons.

Che esmi salar lol [I just had to say that].

If the [Joftak andazan] who lurk around here  seeking every opportunity to do some [joftaking] could only see that their [arrr o arrr] has nothing to do with hating IR[which non can hate those criminals more than myself] then no matter how I start my thread, they will just kick the door in with the [double joftak] as you are witness.

Asides form that sir, you got some name there[I just had to say it again]

Cheers hamvatan ;-o)

Mr. Samsam

by capt_ayhab on

Thank you so kindly for your precious time in reading and making a delightful and informative comment. I do appreciate you sir.

As I have said before, there are many areas of your ideology that I might not agree with completely. However I have made no secret about the amount of respect I hold for you, as my hamvatan, and as a true patriot that you are.

One thing about you that I admire the most is your consistency, fair and objective criticism of what you do not believe in. Allow me to say that this thread is rather a general presentation of the model, applicable to any form of hate, and not only religion per say. That said, I do wish that all those people who claim to be patriot, had tenth of your true love of Iran.

Regretfully for many, profanity, lying, deception, name calling, slander, misinformation has translated to [patriotism]. An attitude that has and will alienate a massive portion of our population.

Thanks again for your time sir.

Mr. Anvar

by capt_ayhab on

Firstly thank you so kindly for sparing your time in both reading this humble blog, and responding to it so honestly.

I had tried not to name names, although I was so tempted to specifically talk about the plight of our Baha'i hamvatans in Iran and all the crimes that have been committed against them in the name of religion. I am sure glad that you joined your voice with mine, although both of from different faiths, in order to demonstrate the criminal nature of hate.

I would like t to make a promise to your person, whom I dearly respect as a man of integrity, good thoughts and above all a progressive man who has made fighting for freedom of choice his goal. My promise to you is my self and every decent  Muslims , all through out the world,  will not allow your voice and voices of oppressed Bahai's in Iran be silenced.

Hope of a day where there are no hate among us and we can live up to proud name of our heritage and our forefathers in making Iran Eden of peace and tranquility.

Thank you sir for your time.

Did you know that hate is actually better than "covert hostility?" To see the graduated scale of emotions from best to worst, please refer to the reference here:

Notice that "hate" is at 1.4 whereas "covert hostility" is at 1.1 (lower).

As the oldest advice in Iran

by alimostofi on

As the oldest advice in Iran goes: Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds, it is much harder to do Good than to hate.

It is really is easy to be negative. The brain and the face work better when we are positive. Smile and think positively all the time. And I mean all the time.

Anyone can critisize. That's why there are so many critics out there. Big deal. Don't waste your time describing and elaborating Islam, when you should be positive about something else. Bad propaganda is still propaganda. Islam loves bad propaganda.

Be happy for No reason at all. Tell yourself that. Be happy for being happy.

You should know all this. It is easy. I know you got it. Good.

There is only 1 stage of hate: become muslim, hate everyone

by Faramarz_Fateh on

There is only 1 stage of hate: become muslim, hate everyone.  Its simple.  No need for studying the subject.

Some examples:  Shia' Muslims hate:

1) Sunnis  (remember Omar koshoon)

2) Jews (no need to explain)

3) Bahais (see abpve)

4) USA  (great satan)

5) British (they are cause all misdeeds)

6) Anyone who says anything bad about Islam and Mohammad (remember Salman Rushdi or van gogh)

Its just they don't mind being the haters.  They just hate to be the hatees!

Your boy "mustafa" seems like a nice, confused young man from downtown simpletown. God only knows what ails this poor fellow. Maybe he suffers from a case of Stockholm Syndrome. Suffice it to say, in these fabulous United States of America we have a lot of inmates in maximum security prisons who convert to Islam.

Oh, yes, some do a little rape, others dabble in a murder, end up in prison for life, convert to Islam and live happily -- well, not really all that happily ever after.

Seems like such a wonderful life plan though, specially the part about where Islam comes to the rescue.  Good ol' Islam, always there to pick you off the ground and turn you into a lethal weapon, literally.

Yikes.

by Q on

I can't say I'm surprised by your back-handed insults. But since You agree with it, I will repeat it here for other people to read and enjoy.

One additional emphasis might be that "the hater never sees himself as such." That is, somehow in the middle of all this hate and bullyism he is spewing, he sees himself as an abused victim of imagined atrocities... if not against himself then against his family, country, history, ANY old BS excuse he can conjure to justify the wholsesale bigotry. That's what contributes to the sense of righteousness that blinds him completely. Thus he comes to believe that his own word is reality. This latter point is demonstrated by the repeated outrage that "I'm not a hater because I just SAY I'm not a hater."

Maybe the haters should learn something from this guy:

Stage Zero

by Anvar on

*capt_ayhab* - Thank you for sharing this interesting study, conducted on behalf of the FBI, describing the different stages/categories of hate and haters.

The model fits perfectly and explains in detail what the minorities in Iran have been going through for so long.

Unfortunately, by the virtue of living in the real world and not enjoying the protection of anonymity of cyberspace, they have been subjected to all the stages of hate as described in this study.

All of us can easily find reasons to hate others.  The challenge is to stop at Stage 0.

Khar Gir

Captain jan,

by Khar Gir on

I am not in your blog to catch you but to give a word of advise.

Since most of your readers are Hamvatan, you have to press the right button to pass your opinion through.

Maybe you don't remember before the revolution, but when someone wanted to talk about a subject that could provoke the anti-Shah people, they would start with "Marg Bar Shah" and then their speech or article.

Many people know that you don't support IRI, but some Hamvatans (ghorbooneshoon beram) being a bunch of khars with third world mentality just can't get it and start calling you names.

So, you may want to start your blog with "Marg Bar IRI" or something similar, otherwise you might get a joftak from some of my runaway khars.

Now you see that catching Khars on Iranian.com can be a full time job!

Dear Captain_Ayhab Once again ,

by SamSamIIII on

Since the phrase "patriotism" & "heritage" were subtly connected to "hate speach", I speak for myself & hope it,s helpfull for you to diffrentiate between hate vs pride & self defence in face of Ommatie onslaught.

The pilgram patriots of Kiaan stand for the cause of true Iran , you are either with us or with Zahaak , there is no other choice . there is no grey area or room for indifference when it comes to our true heritage . True Iran or  Ommah ....

It,s not about Arabs but the Ajam serfs &  cultural agents of Ommatism .

It,s not about race anymore but a true yearning for Iranic psyche ,identity &  vision by all those who regardless of their race adhere to it.

It,s not about Islam as a private religion or spirituality but burying Ommatism & political Islam.

It,s not about Arab words but saving our language from becoming a foreign dialect & obsolete.

It,s not about hating Imams but cherishing true Iranic Icons.

There is nothing hatefull about pilgrams who are commited to the cause of true Iran & seek their lineage to the legacy of Eran-Shahr .

One of True Iranic  main traits has always been tolerance toward other cultures as has been witnessed thru history by the likes of Amonius, Xenephone,Herodotus & other historians..etc  yet that tolerance was not meant to give up one,s identity for the sake of foreign subjugation of psyche ,& thought . It,s called tolerance from the position of power & pride , not serfdom to foreign cause.

Cheers!!!
