This is miserable

Yesterday a guy came into the store to buy a lottery ticket.

He looked very sad.  I asked him what is going on. he said I need to win this week.  My mother is dying. she has no insurance. I need a lot of money to pay to  the hospital.  The richest country in the world and half  of the people have no health insurance. What is going on?  What is wrong with this country? Why people don't care? It is equally sad to see that some desperate people believe they have better odds to win money with the lottery tickets than get help from their elected government.

He has some choices.

Its incorrect to assume that he has no options,
he has probably ended up in a private hospital, he should talk to a social worker and she might be able to transfer her mother to a county hospital, anyway if he owes a lot, he can declare bankruptcy, or go to an educational hospital, the health care in this country is terribly broken, but this country is so rich that the situation is not hopeless.
