Several roots of all evil

Religions being human-made institutions, they reflect the human mind and psyche's shadow side. In this regard, it is actually the human shadow side that is the root of all evil. This shadow side has also created the unbridled capitalism (read Greed, etc.) and patriarchy, both of which are based on exploitation and domination. So, we have more than one institution as the root of all evils.

Marge: I don't think reason can replace religion. Human beings have always been more emotional than rational - fear, insecurity, and existential anxiety play a major role in their lives.  Rationality - which needs to be defined anyway - constitutes a very small portion of the human psyche. Intuition, which is a very important part of a scientific mind, is not rational. We need intuition to function. But this ituition also often leads to spirituality, which is not a bad thing, because it is the opposite of religion. It is completely personal and doesn't need any organisation or even a God. It is about the way human beings situate themselves in the universe and relate to everything in it. It is when this spirituality turns into its opposite through organization that all the proverbial Hell breaks loose!

I think religions, which are always organised, need to be first separated from the politics, and then through education - and not necessarily and only through rationality - it could vanish for the benefit of either individual spirituality or rationality.

Why? If religion were replaced with reason

we would not be in this world. 

the pope covered up child abuse for religion. their religion pushes men into abusing children by refusing them basic sexual gratification. tof to the religions. all of them.  they make humans look like fools.

How?

How are we to propose to eradicate religion?

Force?

Education?

Another faith?

How?

Agree with you that the religion is the root of all evil. But what do you mean by "God is God" as if it is something real. God is the creation of man's mind and has evolved to the existing all knowing, all powerful  from the humble totems.

I also agree with Phantom that simply eradicating the religion from the people's life is not enough and an uneducated society will fall in a different trap. Only true education (and not state education) can set us free from the evils.

I wish I could've said you were right. Stalin's efforts, and their outcome, and those of  Pol Pot's are only two historical examples to the contrary. Unless you respond by stating the fact that communists, in general, only replace a so-called divine religion with an earthly one; which would lead us to the ineluctable concept of a belief system...

By the way , what should we think of those people who are the loudest advocates of "wiping religions off the map", while in every imaginable opportunity declare themselves as "God's Chosen People"?.

The Pahlavis, all mullahs, and all public figures associated with the Green Movement  must disclose the source and the amount of their wealth/income.
