Remembrance Sunday

Today is the Remembrance Sunday in Britain. From the battle fields of the Somme through to Dunkirk, Normandy, Burma, Falklands, Basra and Helmand, tens of thousands of British and commonwealth soldiers lost their lives in the fight against tyranny. Those of us who are now living in the safe and free countries of democratic of Europe, USA, Australia and Canada owe a debt of gratiutude to the fallen of these wars. But let us remember the fallen of both sides of these conflicts as every life lost is a human loss.

Its good to see that at last this blog got noticed! Thanks to my little robot friend. It is interesting to see that my robotic pal is talking about "reason". R2D2 jaan can you please define the mathematical definition of "reason" - in human language I mean. :)

I have no doubt  you are right about both public sentiment and Russian contribution. That is precisely my point. The "peace now" types often end up creating  "war later" by their misguided idealism.

Besides that was before America perfected the nuclear weapons. Given that advantage the minimum would have been to order them to get out of Europe. Russia or Soviets had no right to Eastern Europe or the Baltic Republics. All Truman needed to do was tell them "get out or see your troops gone".  It would have spared many nations years of suffering. As I understand that is how he got Russians to leave Iranian territory. It would have vastly limited the power of Soviets.

If he wanted to be more ambitious he would have gone all the way. Yes it may have  been a lot less popular. Probably not politically feasible due to "peace now".

I Believe What Prevented "Harry Truman" And The Americans To Go After The Soviet Union Was Perhaps The Fact That The "American Public" Was Truly Tired Of Any Further Wars (In 1945) - Plus, It Would Have Been A "Herculean" Task For Truman To Persuade The American Public To Go After The Soviet Union, Them Being Our Allies Against The Fascists (Germany, Italy, Etc.) For Almost Five (5) Years :)

P.S. It's Perhaps Worth Mentioning That The Outcome Of WWII Would Have Been Questionable, As We See It Today, Without The Significant Contributions Of The Soviet Union At The Time - Regardless Of What We Think Of Stalin And His Bunch ..... !

Regarding Isolationism

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

It is very sad that the greatest backers of it are the "peace nicks". The idealists who think "if we just left them alone". Well Britain left Hitler alone but that was not good enough. A problem that was simple to stop became a giant one.

It is not often that I agree with Winston Churchill. But he was right when he told American to finish off the Stalin while at it. Western allies were strong and mobilized. Russia was weak. America had the A-bomb and Russia did not. It was the prefect time.

But idealists won; Stalin got half of Europe and cold war begun. It nearly destroyed the world. It ruined many people in Russia and other nations. It gave rise to Korean and Vietnam wars. The Cuban Missile Crisis and so on. North Korea still suffers for it.

Good To See A "Sensible" Blog From You :)

At Last :) !

P.S. I Pretty Much Agree With Much Of The Sentiments Expressed Here - There Is In America Still An "Isolationist" Streak, Saying That We Should Have Never Got Ourselves Involved In WWII, And Should Have Instead Let Hitler And Nazi Germany Take Over The Entire Continent of Europe (Including Russia and England), And Negotiated With Hitler Later On, Rather Than Stalin :) !

My Own Feelings Are That "Stalin" Was An "Evil" That One Could Reason With, As Opposed To "Hitler", Who Was Unquestionably An Evil That One Could Never Reason With ..... !
