Photo essay: Trip to Machu Picchu, Peru

The story goes that the Incas abandoned Machu Picchu in a hurry. The Spanish conquistadors had sent hired messengers to inform the Incas of their imminent attack which never materialized. Machu Picchu sat there abandoned for about 500 years until Hiram Bingham from Yale University introduced it to the world in 1911. The locals always knew that Machu Picchu existed.

kfravon: Mchu Picchu is glorious indeed but I haven't seen any place more glorious than Angkor in Cambodia yet: //iranian.com/Travelers/2006/November/Cam...

ToofanZeGreat: High altitude and lack of oxygen
is a problem. There is medication for it and Coca leaf tea. We took both! You
feel like an athlete for a few days when you come back to lower altitudes.

Tahirih: I had never been there!

Anonymous234: We went solo and spent money where it would
stay in local economy. I recommend Hostal Marani (Dutch NGO runs the place) and

It's my lifelong dream to go to this magnificant place. I can't wait- When is the best and least expensive time to go? Did you go on a tour or solo and which one do you recommend? I appreciate any information as I want to do this year on my 40th birthday :)
