The foreign policy and national security challenges posed by Iran have perplexed consecutive U.S. presidential administrations for decades. From the hostage crisis to state sponsorship of terrorism to nuclear programs, the myriad challenges have rarely provided any easy answers. One of the few clear issues pertaining to America's Iran policy has been its designation of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) as a terrorist organization.
For nearly two decades and four presidential administrations, yearly reviews of the MEK's terrorist designation have reconfirmed its rightful place on this dubious list of 50 unsavory groups -- most recently in January of this year.
Despite this, a massive lobbying push to delist the MEK has been raging inside the beltway for the past year, producing two troubling results. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told U.S. lawmakers that a decision on the MEK's terrorist designation is pending in part to see if the group peacefully relocates to a new, less contentious location in Iraq. Shortly thereafter, the Washington, D.C. court of appeals ordered the U.S. government to respond to a petition on the MEK's terrorist designation by March 26 -- less than two weeks from today.
My organization, the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), has been at the forefront of a diverse, uncompensated coalition of former government officials, analysts and scholars calling for the MEK to remain a designated foreign terrorist organization.
To date, I have personally remained silent on the issue in my public commentary in an effort to protect my former colleagues serving in the State Department's Office of Iranian Affairs. My views are identical to theirs.
However, I can no longer remain silent. We are fast approaching a point of no return regarding the MEK's terrorist designation, and my government is running the risk of making a disastrous mistake.
Allow me to explain.
Not one of my former State Department colleagues -- zero -- support de-listing the MEK. Their determination is not based on personal preference or policy ramifications. Rather, the facts of the case are indisputable.
Since NIAC launched its information campaign on the MEK nearly one year ago, I have been in close and continuing contact with the State Department. They are bewildered by the freedom of movement that a designated terrorist organization enjoys on Capitol Hill; disgusted by former U.S. government officials willing to make a quick buck by shilling for the MEK; and exasperated by senior-level political appointees who have allowed partisan politics to trump making an otherwise obvious decision that was not controversial a few short years ago.
A bit of context tells the real story.
In both 2006 and 2007, I helped review the MEK's terrorist designation. I worked with my colleagues in government to review documentation dating from the 1970s to the present, and it was swiftly determined that the MEK's terrorist designation remained warranted. This was during the Bush administration -- which had an openly stated policy of regime change -- and before neoconservative political appointees began jumping ship en masse toward late 2007.
The facts were so indisputable that nearly zero debate took place inside the State Department. Only a few neoconservatives pushed to use the MEK as a pressure point against the Iranian government. Yet despite their countless Iran policy blunders, most neoconservatives in the Bush administration were unequivocal that a terrorist group is a terrorist group.
When presidential administrations change, political appointees cycle in and out of government. Career public servants -- which constitute the vast majority of State Department officials -- transcend elections. Many of the same officials I worked with to reconfirm the MEK's terrorist designation in 2006 and 2007 continue to serve in the Obama administration. The same evidence also remains in place.
If anything, the U.S. government now has more evidence to warrant a swift confirmation of the MEK's terrorist designation. Obama administration officials recently confirmed to NBC News that the MEK is being armed, trained and funded by the Israeli government to murder Iranian scientists. This type of activity -- politically motivated assassinations -- is squarely within the U.S. government definition of terrorism that is used when designating foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs).
So, why we have reached this critical stage? Because even in the post-September 11th era, there has been lax enforcement of existing laws pertaining to FTOs. An illegal presence on Capitol Hill has allowed the MEK to build a disconcerting degree of political pressure vis-à-vis the Obama administration. Consistent inaction by the administration has exacerbated the problem. Only recently have they started to enforce the law, with former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell subpoenaed by the Treasury Department for his paid speeches in support of the MEK. This is a step in the right direction, and more subpoenas will surely follow -- but is it too little too late?
It doesn't have to be. Let me be clear: The requisite evidence to legally maintain the MEK's terrorist designation is both ample and indisputable.
As one of the appeals court judges wrote in her ruling, "the classified portion of the administrative record provides "substantial support" for [the Secretary of State's] determination that the PMOI [MEK] either continues to engage in terrorism or terrorist activity or retains the capability and intent to do so."
The reasoning why the Obama administration has not publicly released this evidence is simple: releasing such information could compromise and damages sources; hamper future intelligence gathering; and jeopardize legal proceedings against alleged criminals involved in the case. This runs the risk of rendering U.S. national security less effective. A similar justification was used by the Obama administration when it withheld much of its collected evidence in the alleged Iranian government plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington.
Secretary Clinton telling lawmakers that a decision on the MEK's terrorist designation is pending in part to see if the group relocates is tantamount to an admission that the decision has nothing to do with whether or not the MEK is a terrorist organization. This couldn't be further from the truth.
Simply put, it is unacceptable to delist a designated FTO in return for them agreeing to relocate. So long as the MEK's organizational structure remains in place, it legally remains a terrorist organization -- regardless of where its base is located. Furthermore, the precedent set by such a mistake would be an unmitigated disaster for the U.S. Does America want to open the door for other terrorist organizations to spend millions of dollars on lobbying to get off the terrorist list?
It's time for the Obama administration to stop playing politics and start enforcing the law. Secretary Clinton and other senior-level officials may not hold their positions one year from now, but many of my former colleagues at the State Department will be left to clean up the mess. Political appointees and Congress must stop politicizing the MEK's terrorist designation, and instead let career public servants do their job. This is how they can best uphold the law in pursuit of America's national security interests.

On Atieh Bahar and Rafsanjani

بعد از جنگ و در زمان ریاست جمهوری رفسنجانی شاهد ظهور دو مافیای جدید هستیم که اولی به خانواده فاسد رفسنجانی وابسته است و دیگری در سیطره رهبران سپاه پاسداران قرار دارد که پس از پایان جنگ با عراق و تأسیس شرکت های گوناگون، تازه نفس در تاراج سرمایه های مملکت سهیم شدند.
مافیای رفسنجانی بطور عمده در صنعت نفت رشد کرد و قدرت گرفت
قوانین جدیدی به اجراء درآمد مثلا در برنامه اول توسعه ( 72-1368 )، دولت ایجاد سه منطقه آزاد تجاری- صنعتی کیش، قشم و چابهار را در سال 1369 اعلام نمود. در ایندوره، دولت ایران توانست بطور بسیار محدود، بخش هائی از صاحبان سرمایه و گروههایی از متخصصان را به مملکت بکشاند. در حقیقت، آنچه باند رفسنجانی را از دیگر مافیاهای اقتصادی ایران متمایز میکند، رابطه ارگانیک آن با محافل اقتصادی در غرب بخصوص کمپانی های نفتی است.
اما در رابطه با رشد بخش خصوصی در دوران پس از جنگ، ذکر یک نکته ضروری است تا اشتباها روند باصطلاح آزاد سازی دوران رفسنجانی و اقدامات ظاهری مشابه را با روند معمول در دیگر کشورها یکسان تصور نکرده باشیم. اقتصاد ایران به اذعان اکثریت قریب به اتفاق کارشنان بیطرف، با تمام اصول شناخته شده دنیای مدرن تناقض دارد. اقتصاد آخوندی، ملغمه ای است از باندهای مافیائی که بدون یک برنامه مدون یا استراتژیک، در حال تاراج سرمایه های کشور و خرج آن برای اهداف پلید خود میباشند.شاید ایران تنها کشور شناخته شده در جهان است که حتی ابتدائی ترین آمار اقتصادی قابل اعتماد که برای هرگونه برنامه ریزی ضروری است درآن وجود ندارد. میزان بدهی خارجی دولت، نرخ تورم، میزان سرمایه گذاری خارجی، دخل و خرج دولت، ذخیره ارزی، میران ریخت و پاش رژیم ایران در دیگر کشورهای جهان و همچنین سهم هر یک از جناحهای حکومتی در چپاول سرمایه های کشور، برای هیچ کارشناس داخلی یا خارجی شناخته شده نیست. این خصوصیت منحصر بفرد اقتصاد آخوندی است که بجای شباهت به مدلهای اقتصادی شناخته شده جهان، بیشتر به چپاول و غارت اموال یک کشور توسط اشغالگران خارجی شبیه است.
بنابراین آنچه در ایران اتفاق افتاده، نه ظهور یک بخش خصوصی مستقل بلکه قشری انگلی وابسته به جناحهای حکومتی موجود است. رژیم ملایان هیچگاه قدرت سیاسی یا اقتصادی را با غیر خودی ها تقسیم نکرده است. از اینرو، همانطور که با بررسی فعالیت های شرکت "آتیه بهار" مشاهده میکنیم، این کمپانی بصورت زائده ای از باندهای درونی حکومت، به دلالی و زد و بند اقتصادی مشغول است. با بررسی فعالیت شرکت "آتیه" میتوان به زنجیره ای از دهها کمپانی ظاهرا خصوصی برخورد که سرمنشا و سلسله گردان آنها عمدتآ تعداد انگشت شماری از مسئولان بالای حکومت اند. این مجموعه شرکتهای تو در تو و وابسته بهم، بخشی از همان مافیای اقتصادی رژیم ملایان است.
این کمپانی شامل یک بخش اصلی بنام "مشاوره" برای کمپانی های بین المللی است که 3 مدیر آن، سیامک نمازی، بیژن خواجه پور و یک جوان اتریشی الاصل بنام "فریشن اشلاگر" میباشند. بیژن خواجه پور، همسر پری نمازی یعنی خواهر سیامک است. بنا به گفته نشریات اقتصادی بین المللی، آتیه بهار مهمترین شرکت مشاوره برای کمپانی های غربی در ایران است.پری نمازی مسئولیت بخش "مدیریت منابع انسانی" شرکت آتیه را بعهده دارد. بابک نمازی که برادر بزرگتر سیامک است نیز "شرکت حقوقی آتیه" را اداره میکند. شرکت آتیه صاحب بخش های کامپیوتری، مطبوعاتی و غیره نیز هست که به آن اشاره میکنیم.
مهمترین فعالیت آتیه، مشاوره به کمپانی های بزرگ غربی است. برای شناخت مشاوره ای که میتوان به یک کمپانی خارجی برای ورود به بازار ایران داد بهتر است بطور مثال به دو مشتری آتیه یعنی شرکتهای نروژی "استات اویل" و فرانسوی "توتال" اشاره نمود این دو غول نفتی جهان، برای ورود به بازار پررونق ایران، مجبور به پرداخت دهها میلیون دلار رشوه به پسر رفسنجانی شده اند. باید اضافه کنیم که بیژن خواجه پور ضمنا رئیس شرکت نفتی "آذر انرژی" نیز میباشد که اعضای مدیریت آن عمدتا از کسانی هستند که قبلا برای کمپانی های نفتی نروژ کار کرده اند.
حال که با یکی از مدیران آتیه بهار آشنا شدیم به سراغ بیژن خواجه پور یعنی رئیس آتیه بهار برویم. ایشان در دهها موسسه و بنیاد و نهاد رسمی دولتی-اقتصادی عضویت دارد که به مهمترین آنان اشاره میکنیم. این شرکتها، بدون استثناء دارای مدیرانی است که از بالاترین مهره های مافیای اقتصادی و سیاسی حکومت اند. بعنوان مثال، خواجه پور مدیر عامل شرکت نفتی "قشم انرژی" است که با منطقه آزاد قشم یعنی یکی از نهادهای اقتصادی رژیم ایران رسما شریک است.7رئیس شرکت "قشم انرژی"، فردی بنام "نرسی قربان" است. ایشان یکی از مهمترین عناصر نفتی رژیم در سالهای گذشته بوده است. وی یک از ثابت ترین سخنرانان در کنفرانس های دولتی ایران در مورد نفت میباشد. نرسی قربان مدیر موسسه ظاهرا مطالعاتی "کاسپین" است که عضو مهم دیگر آن "عباس ملکی"، معاون وزارت خارجه رفسنجانی و مشاور خامنه ای است. ضمنا، نرسی قربان مدیر عامل یکی از مهمترین شرکت های گاز در ایران یعنی "شرکت گاز به مایع کرگنگان" است. ریئس این کمپانی عظیم، یکی از مهره های مهم اقتصادی حکومت بنام علی شمس اردکانی است. این فرد نیز یکی از سران مافیاست. برخی از مسئولیتهای رسمی این فرد همچون رئیس سابق اتاق بازرگانی، سفیر سابق ایران در کویت و دهها پست دیگر در وزارت نفت و وزارت خارجه نشانی از جایگاه ویژه او در اختاپوس حاکم بر کشور است. ایشان اولین رئیس و بنیانگذار نهاد مسئول منطقه آزاد قشم در سال 1369 است. شرکت آتیه بهار و مسئولان آن نه تنها در اکثر کنفرانس های نفتی رژیم در زمره سخنرانان اصلی هستند، بلکه در برخی از موارد، در کنار مسئولان رژیم، مشترکا برگزار کننده کنفرانس نیز بوده اند که میتوان به دو مورد اشاره کرد. یکی در سال 1998 در لندن بود که تحت عنوان "فرصت های جدید در صنعت نفت و گاز ایران" برگزار شد و در آن بیژن خواجه پور و نرسی قربان سخنرانی کردند. 10دیگری کنفرانسی در ژولای 2000 در لندن بود11 که آتیه بهار برای برگزاری کنفرانس با شرکت نفت ایران همکاری نمود و حتی قبل از کنفرانس اصلی، یک "پیش کنفرانس توضیحی" توسط مسئولان آتیه برگزار گردید. در این کنفرانس مهمترین مسئولان نفتی رژیم منجمله مهدی هاشمی رفسنجانی به سخنرانی پرداختند.
در کنفرانس دیگری که در سال 2006 تحت عنوان "همکاری ایران و چین" در تهران برگزار شد، بجز مهمترین مسئولان حکومتی، میتوان به سخنرانی بیژن خواجه پور و همسرش پری نمازی اشاره نمود. سخنرانی پایان کنفرانس نیز توسط علی اکبر ولایتی و عباس ملکی دوست نزدیک بیژن خواجه پور انجام گرفت. 12
NIAC’s research director has a problem with truth and facts?

As far as I am aware, Reza Marashi has not apologized to Sohrab for the false statement.
It appears that NIAC’s research director has a problem with truth and facts.

What is the Relationship Between Atieh Bahar and Rafsanjani?
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Fri Mar 16, 2012 09:02 PM PDTIt is also believed (and asserted) that Atieh Bahar was close to Rafsanjani. If that belief (or assertion) is true, I think it is fair to say that leaders of Atieh Bahar are part of Rafsanjani’s gang.
If anyone has good articles on the relationship between Rafsanjani and Atieh Bahar, I would like to read them.
سعید امامی: فلاحیان به من دستور حذف سید احمد خمینی را داد

در آستانه سالگرد درگذشت سید احمد خمینی، اوراقی از بازجویی تکان دهنده سعید امامی، معاون امنیتی وزیر اطلاعات وقت و از متهمین ردیف اول قتلهای زنجیرهای منتشر میشود، که وی با اشاره به برخی انتقادات مرحوم سید احمد خمینی به وضعیت موجود گفته بود «متأسفانه حاج احمد آقا به راه یک طرفه بدی وارد شده بود که برگشت نداشت. وقتی دستور حذف حاج احمد آقا را فلاحیان (وزیر وقت اطلاعات و عضو فعلی خبرگان) به من ابلاغ کرد مضطرب شدم و حتی به تردید فرو رفتم. دو روز بعد همراه با فلاحیان به دیدار آیتالله مصباح رفتیم، آقایان محسنی اژهای و بادامچیان هم آنجا بودند البته بعدا «حاج آقا خوشوقت هم از بیت آمدند آنجا و نظر جمع بر این بود که نباید به کسانی که با ولی امر مسلمین خصومت میکنند، رحم کرد.»
به گزارش جرس، متن این بخش از بازجویی سعید امامی، و گوشه کوچکی از صدها صفحه و سند از قتلهای زنجیرهای مخالفان و دگراندیشان، که دایره آن از سیاسیون، تا نویسندگان و هنرمندان و روحانیون و کشیشان را در بر میگرفت، به شرح زیر است:
«من از آغاز انقلاب تا به امروز سرباز گوش به فرمان نظام مقدس اسلامی و مقام ولایت بوده و هستم، هیچگاه بدون کسب اجازه و یا بدون دستورات مقامات عالی نظام کاری انجام ندادهام. هرچه را که به صلاح نظام و اسلام دانستهام به عنوان پیشنهاد به مسئولانم ارائه کردهام. من خود را گناهکار نمیدانم. کسانی که حذف شدهاند، مرتد، ناصبی و محارب بودهاند. حکم مجازات آنها مثل همیشه به ما تکلیف شده است و ما آنچه کردهایم اجرای تکالیف شرعی بوده است نه قتل و جنایت حکم اعدام داریوش فروهر و پروانه اسکندری را به روال معمول همیشگی حجتالاسلام علی فلاحیان به من داد. احکام اعدام سایر محاربین قبلا «در زمان وزارت فلاحیان صادر شده بود. از مدتها پیش قرار بر این بود که عوامل مؤثر فرهنگی وابسته که توطئه تهاجم فرهنگی را در ایران پیاده میکردند و جمعا «صد نفر بودند اعدام شوند.
حکم حذف ۲۹ نفر از نویسندگان از مدتها پیش مشخص و احکام قبلا «صادر شده بود که در مورد ۷ تن از آن عناصر احکام در دوره وزارت علی فلاحیان اجرا شده بود.
وقتی حکم اعدام فروهر به ما ابلاغ شد پرسیدیم که تکلیف احکام معطل مانده اعضای کانون نویسندگان چه میشود که حاج آقا دری نیز گفتند هرچه سریعتر اقدام شود بهتر است و این بار نیز مثل ماقبل انجام شد با فرق اینکه بجای ابلاغ از سوی فلاحیان امور از طریق حاج آقا دری نجفآبادی هماهنگ میشد.» در جلد ۱۶ پرونده صفحه ۳۸۴ پرونده بازجویی سعید امامی نیز، هنگامی که بازجو از امامی سؤال میکند که آیا اعدامها رویه امنیتی داشت و با حکم» حفظ نظام از واجبات است «انجام میشد یا حکمهای موضوعی نیز داشت، سعید امامی پاسخی میدهد که شابد بتوان آنرا مهمترین فراز بازجوئیهای وی تلقی نمود. وی در جواب میگوید: «فلاحیان با وجود آنکه خود حاکم شرع بود، اما معمولا «و در موارد حساس احکام حذف محاربان را شخصا «صادر نمیکرد. او این احکام را از آیتالله خوشوقت، آیتالله مصباح، آیتالله خزعلی، آیتالله جنتی و گاها «نیز از حجتالاسلام محسنی اژهای دریافت میکرد و بدست ما میداد. ما فقط به آقایان اخبار و اطلاعات میرساندیم و بعد هم منتظر دستور میماندیم. مثلا «وقتی باخبر شدیم که حاج احمد آقا در جلسات خصوصی به مسئولان نظام و حتی به ولایت امر اهانت میکند. آنرا ارجاع دادیم و بلافاصله دستور آمد که همه رفت و آمدهای ایشان را زیر نظر بگیرید و از مکالمات و ملاقاتهای ایشان نوار تهیه کنید. ما هم بمدت یکسال همین کار را کردیم. متأسفانه حاج احمد آقا به راه یک طرفه بدی وارد شده بود که برگشت نداشت. وقتی دستور حذف حاج احمد آقا را آقای فلاحیان به من ابلاغ کرد مضطرب شدم و حتی به تردید فرو رفتم. دو روز بعد همراه با آقای فلاحیان به دیدار آیتالله مصباح رفتیم، آقایان محسنی اژهای و بادامچیان هم آنجا بودند البته بعدا «حاج آقا خوشوقت هم از بیت آمدند آنجا و نظر جمع بر این بود که نباید به کسانی که با ولی امر مسلمین خصومت میکنند، رحم کرد.»
The MAIN Terrorist Gang in Iran

Who murdered the non-violent Iranian pro-democracy activists and literary figures in Iran? Any good definition of terrorism would agree that assassinations of non-violent pro-democracy activists and writers constitutes terrorism by the state. One of the main figures of such terrorist actions in Iran has been Hojatolislam Fallahian, who was Minister of Intelligence under Rafsanjani. According to the following article published by JARAS (related to Mir-Hussein Mousavi), Fallahian was the main person behind the Chain murders of pro-democracy activists and literary figures of the Writers’ Association (Kanon Nevisandegan).
Hojatolislam Fallahian was a close associate of Hojatolislam Ali Akbar Rafsanjani. In other words, Fallahian has been part of Rafsanjani’s gang.

These NIACies are all confused nowadays.
On the one hand they talk positively about the upcoming negotiations between the US and the Regime and the posturing for the "Grand Bargain" and on the other hand they keep sounding the alarms about the war, MEK and all the other ominous news.
It is a two-track strategy to promote negotiations with the Regime by either using the scare tactics or portray the Regime as a responsible actor wanting to compromise.
It won't happen. There is 33 years of history and hundreds of dead Americans to prove the point.
NIAC should drink out of the poisonous chalice and come out and say, once and for all that the Regime has to go, and it has to go now.

For the sake of transparency, it would be nice if the same Mr. Marashi speaks about his own reputed past work experience with the Rafsanjani connected Atieh-Bahar group which acted as a gateway for foreign businesses, particularly oil companies, wishing to do business in the Islamist Rapist Republic (IRR.)
And it would also be ethical to name all those unnamed colleagues at the State Department.
