U.N. rights investigator on Iran named

Former foreign minister of the Maldives special rapporteur on human rights in Iran

Reuters - A former foreign minister of the Maldives, Ahmed Shaheed, was named United Nations human rights investigator on Iran Friday, the first in nearly a decade. The U.N. Human Rights Council established the independent post of special rapporteur on human rights in Iran on March 24, a move spearheaded by Washington that will subject Tehran's record to scrutiny. The 47-member forum has voiced concern at Iran's crackdown on opposition figures and increased use of the death penalty and called on the Islamic Republic to cooperate with its new envoy. Shaheed's appointment was announced by the council's spokesman Cedric Sapey at the end of a three-week session >>>

The world knows IR is not reformable, but it is still to benefit of China, Russia and Europe to have IR is power than a secular democratic government which works for the benefit of Iranians than behind the door deals that benefit mullah Inc and the those countries but NOT Iranians.

Are the core issues for the Iranian people and any move by the international community to shine a light on lack of those in Iran will and should help Iranians to achieve them sooner. What is not clear, what is to be done once such violations are proven [yet again] and will this body be holding the violators accountable or will it be just a feel-good investigation with some chelo-kabab in Iran?

are just ploys towards the day when the world will put all of the evidences together and will come to the same conclusion we all have come to.  The Islamic Rapist Republic is un-reformable.  It will not deviate from its paths of death, rape and destruction.  Not only of its own citizens, but the real threat it poses to the world at large.  The only way to combat this threat is to initatiate surgical attacks against the assets of the regime and the 200K + diehard, brainwashed supporters of it; the Basij, IRGC and the plainclothes security forces.  Once these attacks are initiated, the people will have the freedom to come to the streets, and with no securitya appratus present will take over.  The regime will be done, and Khamenei and his murdering bunch will be on the run.  No where to go, but they will run out of the country dressed in chadors.

I still welcome this as a move in the right direction  as far as the condition and fate of the political prisoners in islamist regime's torture chambers are concerned.

Can someone name onother country in the world where UN had to designate an special envoy to monitor human rights violations? That in itself is quite an statement.

"Personal business must yield to collective interest."

How effective this will be?

by azadi5 on

I don't think this will work as some hope. If they let him in Iran, it's highly unlikley for him to have free access to all the people and information that he is looking for. And at the end, what's he trying to prove that has not been proven yet? Is he trying to prove that rape, torture, harrassment, and murder are order of the day for this regime? and if so, to whom is he trying to prove these facts? to the people inside Iran, or outside? Everyone knows the answers to those.

I guess I should start watching BBC Farsi more often. I really liked the way that lady was reporting this item. She was doing some kind of dance with her hands which was similar to the way we dance to Iranian tunes. And on top of that she is very cute! So what else can one want :)
