Osanloo Released From Prison

Bus union leader free at last

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is delighted to announce that imprisoned trade unionist Mansour Osanloo was today freed from jail in Iran almost four years since his arrest and imprisonment, which set off a storm of international protest.

His release is conditional on his ‘good behaviour’ and the payment of a bond.

The ITF has led demands for Mansour Osanloo’s release. ITF general secretary David Cockroft commented: “This is a great day for Mansour and his family – and for his fellow Vahed union members and those of us in the international trade union movement who are honoured to call him a friend. It’s doubly welcome given the deterioration in his health during his time behind bars.

“He is free because trade unionists worldwide demanded justice.”

He continued: “That bail has been set falls short of the full pardon we all wanted, and which the Iranian government promised, but for now we can just take a moment to savour his richly deserved return to his family.”

Hooshang Tarreh-Gol

Out of the fire, but back in the frying pan

Great to hear he's out of jail,

though sad to hear he's free in Iran.

After the crimes committed by this so called islamic regime to innocent people, womens rights activists, people attending their parents funeral etc etc, I can't see how a leader can stay out of trouble for long.

Hopefully he can support himself to get out of the country and be an activist from outside, since he is a target living in Iran now.

Wonderful news.  This due in large measures to pressure from labor unions and human rights organizations around the world.

He is wronged greatly by the thugs in power. Yet, he is a hero to all of us who yearn for freedom and justice.

Great news

He had been in prison for so long and as a symbol of working class opposition to this regime, news about his condition have been prominent, so it is great to hear that finally he has been freed. Now he needs to go on a tour of the world to talk about his experience,

Thanks for the great news,

Made my day man, still have to double and triple check, but, lets enjoy the moment while it lasts. He should have been freed with no bail and unconditionally, kachi baaze hichy! cheers

Mehrdad as usual is 100% correct, what we need is an immediate and unconditional freedom of all political prisoners in Iran, now.  Mansour was freed in large parts due to the organization and solidarity of Bus Drivers in Tehran, their supportes in Iran and abroad.  How these workers, the Bus Drivers, have been able to utilize these two elements of organization and solidairty, should be an obvious, shining example for all to see.

Good News.

He is  truely a man of prinicpals, a good patriotic Iranian. His health condition after spending so many years in Islamist regime's torture chambers had been alarming. I hope he gets better soon. We need people like him.

The very fact that he is still alive, let alone out of islamist regime's torture chambers (for now at least) is to a great degree thanks to the international support he had been receiving  from workers' unions worldwise. A clear case for International solidarity of working classes and what it can achieve.....

"Personal business must yield to collective interest."

Lets hope this is not short lived

Meanwhile, all other political prisoners must be freed without delay and unconditionally. These are the bravest of our bunch and we need to honor and support them accordingly

ITF should bring him and his family to the sane world to take care of his eye as well as other health problems he has long been suffering from in the Islamist Rapists' dungeons.
