Reuters: Iran's hopes of playing in the 2012 London Olympic football tournament vanished on Thursday when they were beaten 2-0 by neighbours Iraq in the second leg of a second-round qualifier. Two goals by Amjad Radhi, one either side of half-time, put 2004 Athens Games semi-finalists Iraq through to the third round of qualifiers. Arash Afshin and Hamidreza Aliasgari had chances to equalise for Iran but both players put the ball wide. Fighting broke out between two rival players after the game in Tehran's Azadi stadium and Iranian fans shouted slogans against the head of the country's football federation Ali Kafashian, calling for his resignation, according to official news agency Irna >>>

It is a big upset! No wonder the fans are going ballistic!
Last time, Team Melli lost to KSA, Daei lost his job in 24 hours......I have a feeling that shake-up is inevitable! AN should fire himself!

"zionist sign of 2012"!!
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Fri Jun 24, 2011 08:18 PM PDTReally, what degree of obsessive mental disorder would cause one to look at a clip about a football match between Iran and Iraq, and immediately think of "zionists"!!

poor management
by iamfine on Fri Jun 24, 2011 08:11 PM PDTThe management in all areas within Iranian society is poor and must be fixed. Unfortunately, with the type of government that we currently have in Iran, it is a difficult task to fix the problem.

by yolanda on Fri Jun 24, 2011 05:38 PM PDTIf girls were allowed to enter Azadi Stadium to watch the game, Iran would have beaten Iraq! It is all IRI's fault!
Lets see how long Kafashian will have his job!
Amjad Radhi can run for president! :O)) He will go down history as a national hero! Wow! 2 goals in one game!
Off side
by پندارنیک on Fri Jun 24, 2011 05:13 PM PDTI'm sure our Iraqi brothers will be equally as vocal as us in protesting the Zionist sign of the Olympics 2012 in London. That was the whole motive, was it not?
So what
by sparrowlake on Fri Jun 24, 2011 05:03 PM PDTunstable, unsafe, mostly because iran seeks to undermine democratic reforms. In any society where their is freedom the outcome for sports will reflect that. When individuals are allowed to make their own choices the outcomes overall will be better.
Excellence is not something associated with government. Control is.

Is Iraq a more advanced
by comments on Fri Jun 24, 2011 03:33 PM PDTIs Iraq a more advanced country to train its sports men and women than those in Iran?
It's very sad to believe that such an unstable and unsafe new country provides better opportunities and training for its people. What about to calm down by braging about our Persian Empire?
Iranian soccer is too politicized!
by Immortal Guard on Fri Jun 24, 2011 03:23 PM PDTGod knows whether they are making backroom deals and using soccer as a bargaining chip or whether they want to keep the people from becoming emotional and pouring onto the streets!
